Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1601 1601: Battle in the Tunnel

Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Zargos of the Flaming Eye Clan confronted Ramilo, Adam, and Alexia aboard the earthworm traversing the Ice Path, revealing his intent to capture Adam alive due to the Befallen Crown's interest in him. Having observed Adam's battle at Frost Ridge and the subsequent clash with the Crown's forces, Zargos sought to trade Adam for personal power, dismissing Alexia's strength as underdeveloped. Ramilo, unwilling to surrender Adam, proposed a fair duel limited to energy and physical combat to avoid damaging the Ice Path, which Zargos accepted as flames ignited around his fists.

Adam and Alexia hadn't spent enough time in the Primal Lands yet to grasp the structure of the existing hierarchy.

The only thing they understood was that the clans along with the Old Light stood as the sole superpowers in this place, though they remained unaware of the exact strength of each clan.

'Zargos... Could he be the head of his clan, or merely a key figure?' Adam pondered while observing the blood-red crimson flames that wrapped around Zargos's fists.

His attention shifted to Ramilo, who, in contrast to his rival, showed no rush to unleash his energy.

'Is he truly planning to triumph using only raw physical strength?'

Oddly, Zargos picked up on this too.

"Ramilo, are you attempting to impress the young ones?" His gaze stayed steady. "Do you look down on me?"

"Me?" Ramilo thumped his chest. "Come on, Zargos, folks across the Primal Lands all recognize the might of you and your clanmates."

"But..."

Ramilo's tone dropped while a sharp glint swept across his fangs.

"By showing up here, you've overlooked who holds the true dominance in our territory!"

Zargos dismissed it with a casual wave, sparks of fire dancing in front of his vision.

"What counts isn't the faction's overall might, but the abilities of its members. A faction might boast a million beasts, yet if they fall to a single gesture, what good is that?"

"Hah, true enough, but tough luck for you—I belong to the Old Light, not some clan, for one straightforward cause!"

Zargos arched a brow, anticipating the rest.

Clap!

Ramilo slammed his fists into each other.

"I am incredibly powerful!"

Zargos responded with a sly grin.

"Regardless, Adam Vinter belongs to me." He shot a look at Adam and Alexia. "You two, I suggest heading to the farthest edge of the earth worm and ducking behind the stone slab. I'd hate to injure you by mistake."

Ramilo gave a casual shrug.

"What can I say? He's spot on. Space is tight here, so for your protection, follow his lead."

Alexia rolled her eyes yet obeyed their words. Even Adam now inflated his cheeks in frustration.

'Damn, what's really happening?' He grumbled inside. 'Today marks the second instance where someone's out to end me!'

This held true, yet what truly irked him went deeper: his inability to protect himself. Previously it was Goen, and this time Ramilo stepped up.

Admittedly, Zargos lacked the ferocity of Liliane and the fifth team, but ultimately, both pursued the identical aim—to seize Adam and deliver him to the Befallen Crown. The sole distinction lay in one acting under command, the other chasing a hefty prize.

'Tsk, how much longer must this drag on?'

Silvana gave a nod. 'Stay calm. Such incidents will pop up now and then until you gain sufficient power. The best fix is tackling tasks in less risky zones.'

Adam looked aside.

'Would heading back to the Tarnished Lands prove wiser?'

Silvana nodded again. 'Probably so. Though maybe a different section of the Primal Lands might pose fewer threats. It hinges on the views of the local clans and Old Light folks toward you.'

The idea seemed solid, but Adam harbored reservations.

'I'm not convinced...'

'W-Why?' Silvana appeared puzzled.

'Those last two requirements don't seem acquirable in any secure spot. The Blood of God and Bottomless Void... Tsk, fingers crossed it's simpler than battling Vaarh.'

Adam hoped for that outcome, though inwardly he suspected otherwise.

At present, escaping the Primal Lands proved impossible, with nearly everyone pursuing and aiming to nab him.

"Pfffft!" Alexia scoffed as the fight kicked off. "They realize I'm far too mighty, so they skip trying to grab me altogether!"

In certain respects, it might seem silly, but Alexia disliked how nobody sought to capture her—or more precisely, how every spotlight shone on Adam.

This served as subtle evidence of her inferiority to Adam, showing other beasts viewed her as neither dangerous nor worthwhile, which spelled trouble for her ego.

"Just wait! Next round, a mighty beast will target me over you!" She yelled, glaring at Adam with swollen cheeks.

Adam rubbed his cheek.

"You get that I want none of this and it's no cause for envy, don't you?"

Alexia simply poked out her tongue and spun around in reply.

"Hah." Zargos let out a laugh. "Craving notice from this world's elites? Then prove yourself worthy, girl. Right now, you're merely a robust K4-Phantom, nothing else."

Step. Step. Step.

Ramilo advanced leisurely, his enormous frame's shadow soon draping over Zargos.

"Hey, Zargos, or am I imagining it—shouldn't your focus stay solely on me?"

Ramilo bared a broad smile, exposing his lengthy fangs, his eyes shedding their gentle, innocuous vibe. His pupils had constricted, his stare brimming with savage hunger.

Yet Zargos's expression remained utterly still, no muscle stirring.

"Of course. Eyes shut or not, I'll sense your position. Every move you make stays in my sight."

Ramilo pulled his arm rearward, poised for the blow.

Step!

Zargos countered in a flash by lunging ahead, his fist igniting with vivid fire.

A fiery explosion burst forth, the devastating force hurling Ramilo back scores of meters.

The hulking beast soared by Adam's stunned gaze. Adam tracked the smoky path, keeping pace with the airborne Ramilo.

Like a skilled gymnast, Ramilo twisted mid-air, briefly looking like a fuzzy sphere, then touched down solidly on his feet.

"Hmm?"

He peered downward, sweeping ashes off his torso. A section of his azure fur had turned into a charred, dark spot.

Zargos flung his arms out broadly, a grin curling his lips.

"Size doesn't guarantee superiority, does it?"
