Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1576 1576: The Goal – to Destroy
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
In the distant expanses of the Dark Shore, within one of the numerous towering structures, the sound of footsteps reverberated through the stone passages, illuminated merely by occasional crimson torches.
The fellow clad in lavish attire dashed along the hallway, racing toward the massive entrance visible in the distance.
Without a moment's delay, he flung the doors wide and charged into the room.
"Miss! I've got crucial information for you!" The man shouted, then knelt on one knee as a gesture of deference.
The lady on the balcony, holding a goblet of wine, gradually pivoted to face him.
"Hmm? What matter demands you storm into my quarters like this? The day has been so pleasant..."
"It might improve even further!" The man declared.
"In what way?"
The man gestured with his hand.
"Adam Vinter, a member of the Stellar Phantoms. We've pinpointed his location, and moreover, he's accompanied by that girl, Alexia."
The latter name held less weight for her than the former, yet it still sparked her curiosity.
"Adam Vinter...? Both of them possess the potential to ascend to Second Rank Phantoms. We absolutely cannot allow that, you're right. Where is he at present?"
The man grinned.
"In the Primal Lands, the central region. He clashed with a formidable beast and is currently recuperating. We estimate it'll take him between several days and a few weeks to regain his full power."
"Hmm?" The woman arched her brow. "Does he maintain a stronghold there?"
The man affirmed with a nod.
"He's lodged at a hunter's dwelling."
"A hunter, understood. Then it's time to summon the Crown Squad."
The atmosphere in the chamber grew heavier as the man's face turned gravely intense.
"Indeed. Deploy the fifth team. Liliane ought to manage this assignment. As for that girl, Alexia, let them eliminate her, along with the hunter, but..."
The woman pressed her lips together.
"Instruct her to capture Adam Vinter alive if feasible. Securing a Phantom of his caliber would serve as a potent asset."
The man inclined his head, pressing his palm against his chest.
"Understood. I'll ensure they're dispatched on the task without delay!"
He departed, leaving the woman solitary as she contemplated the sprawling metropolis and its grand spires.
'A hunter, is it? If Adam Vinter were more formidable, he could have crossed paths with him, but fortunately, that's not a concern. Excellent.'
...
Meanwhile, in a different section of the city, seven individuals trained within a vast facility that evoked the feel of ancient remnants.
BAM!
The fiery hammer smashed against the electric axe while the two warriors clenched their jaws, each striving to overpower the other. Ultimately, they leaped back. Their strengths matched perfectly.
The young woman with flowing golden locks and intense azure eyes observed from the sidelines.
Her stare was sharp, arms folded across her torso.
She scrutinized every action of theirs, along with the remaining four teammates.
After all, as their captain, that was her responsibility.
"Impressive." Liliane gave a firm nod. "As the second and third in rank, your powers need to balance evenly. This ensures strength and balance in our lineup."
The men acknowledged with nods.
One of them rested his axe on his shoulder.
"Boss, it's been ages since our last assignment. Has Miss taken offense to us once more?"
His companion propped himself on his hammer and lifted his shoulders.
"What more could we anticipate? They instructed us to spare some lives and not wipe everyone out, yet... We simply got carried away."
"Exactly!" The youth nearby burst out amid his practice bout. "Nobody has the guts to disrespect you, Lady Liliane!"
Liliane showed no response to that.
"On this occasion, we'll execute the orders precisely as given. Being in the Crown Squad means we must deliver top-tier performance."
Crash!
As they spoke, the metal gate swung open with the man's arrival.
Every member of the fifth team spun toward him and dropped to one knee in respect. Liliane followed suit.
"Mr. Overseer, what brings you here? Is there a task for us?" Liliane inquired politely, keeping her gaze lowered.
The man nodded solemnly.
"I just conferred with Miss. She heeded my words and approved the operation. Depart at once. You may take a short while to gear up if needed."
Liliane lifted her head gradually.
"We'll fulfill whatever command comes our way, as members of the Crown Squad. Inform us of the objective—who or what we must pursue."
The rest agreed with nods but kept their eyes downcast.
The man rubbed his trimmed beard.
"Not too long back, a few months prior, the watchers acted hastily and committed a grave error. They attempted to assassinate a vital Phantom."
Liliane's eyes tightened.
"You aimed to seize this Phantom unharmed, but they ended his life instead?"
Oddly, the man denied it with a head shake, astonishing the whole fifth team.
"They failed. That day, over a dozen Lords perished."
Liliane and the others' eyes expanded in shock. Lords occasionally fell in combat, but such a mass loss was far from commonplace.
"Was this Phantom truly that formidable?" The red-haired girl whispered.
The young man shrugged indifferently. "No idea, but it seems unbelievable!"
The man lifted his hand, quelling the murmurs.
"Back then, this Phantom remained quite feeble. He hovered at the K3-Level threshold, in the midst of evolving to the subsequent stage. Two Lords defying our authority aided his flight and survival.
"Kenward of the Free End and Saegar, among the neutral Lords. They prevented us from carrying out the execution and terminating this Phantom's existence. They slew over ten of ours. Yet... The true game-changer was Wilfred, the Blighted Wanderer."
Liliane swallowed hard.
The figures he named were familiar to all of them.
"B-But... If such mighty figures intervened on his behalf, what sort of Phantom is he?"
She gripped her hands tightly.
"Who exactly are we tasked with taking down?"
The man squinted.
"Adam Vinter. He's your mark."
