Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1553: Iron Spear

Vaarch had chosen to eliminate every obstacle personally, so in a way, he had no one to fault but himself for the current chaos.
Those ice worms ranked among the fiercest beasts in Frost Ridge, likely the deadliest because of their enormous bulk and horrifying maws.
Yet, true to form, Vaarch aimed to exploit the chaos to its maximum potential.
He seized Alexia’s wrist with even greater force and hurled her away. Right behind her loomed the ice worm’s gaping jaws.
Vaarch gave a composed nod, prepared to sidestep and evade the ice worm’s charge, yet an odd impulse drew his gaze back to Alexia.
"What?" Vaarch whispered under his breath.
For an inexplicable reason, Alexia wore a wild smile, not that of a cunning schemer, but of a lunatic poised for any reckless act.
"Gha..."
She drew in a sharp breath while swirling white fog enveloped both her and Vaarch, and then a lengthy form made of countless segments gleamed in her gaze.
Clang!
Before Vaarch could even process it, a sturdy frozen chain coiled around his torso, its ends clutched securely in Alexia’s hands.
’NO!’
Vaarch’s eyes bulged as understanding hit him, but the moment had already slipped by. Alexia yanked the chains hard, and instantly, their positions flipped.
She flung him directly into the ice worm’s waiting mouth and veered off to the side, using the force to dodge any crash with the colossal creature.
Standing off to the side, Adam swallowed hard. He found himself admiring Alexia’s bold move.
’Huh, so at times she can think clearly and cleverly, instead of just battling like a savage animal, huh?’
CLASP!
A thunderous snap echoed as the ice worm’s jaws snapped shut, enclosing Vaarch within.
Alexia and Adam shared a quick look while the ice worm barreled forward, shattering the cavern. Though not deliberate, the beast’s immense size triggered collapsing rocks and crumbled entire layers of stone overhead.
In mere seconds, a major section of ceiling broke free, allowing beams of sunlight to pour through the fresh fissure above.
Over a hundred meters still separated them from the surface, but it sufficed for initial snow clumps to tumble from the rims, quickly piling up near Adam’s boots.
This fleeting distraction pulled their focus from the ice worm, which continued its frenzy and soon veered toward the exit above.
Evidently, the ice worm had grown tired of toying with its quarry. Now, it sought to flee the tunnels for a secluded spot to digest Vaarch’s essence.
But Vaarch refused to accept such a pathetic end after all his ordeals and triumphs.
In a world brimming with unknowns, one truth stood firm for him:
He wasn’t the hunted; he was the predator. He vowed to rise as the ultimate hunter above all.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
A shudder coursed through the ice worm’s frame as its abdomen bloated in various spots, like multiple blasts erupting within.
Suddenly, a pale streak etched across the murky gray hide as Vaarch unleashed another spear thrust.
With that follow-up strike, Vaarch sliced through the ice worm’s underbelly, unleashing a gush of blood.
Fury blazed across his features. It wasn’t aimed at Alexia for shoving him into the beast’s trap, but at the ice worm for presuming it could swallow him whole.
To Vaarch, this affront was the deepest insult, compelling him to strike back fiercely.
"I brought you into this fight, and you believe you can challenge me?" Vaarch snarled through clenched teeth. "Don’t even think of fleeing—this spot will be your tomb!"
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
A potent dark gray energy exploded from Vaarch, his eyes igniting with a sharp gleam that turned metallic.
Combat boots materialized on his feet, echoing Alexia’s in style, with power surging through their etched grooves like molten lava in heated metal.
Then, Vaarch disappeared from sight.
Struggling to track him, Adam and Alexia barely kept up with his motions.
In a blur of white, Vaarch dashed the length of the ice worm’s form, driving his spear deeply into the creature’s innards.
A trail of inky blood marked his path as he gutted the enormous worm, much like a trophy felled by a skilled tracker.
Adam and Alexia had clashed with an ice worm earlier, so they understood these beasts possessed remarkable resilience and could seal their injuries briefly.
The ice worm attempted the same. Before excessive bleeding occurred, it flexed its muscles and channeled its power, pulling the wound’s borders together.
Vaarch ignored this entirely, focused solely on attaining the beast’s skull, which he reached in a flash.
Whoooooooooosh.
Propelled at breakneck pace, Vaarch soared skyward, briefly surpassing the ice worm. A broad tear scarred the worm’s mandible, though Vaarch couldn’t sever its cranium in one blow.
"Trying to escape?"
Vaarch’s words reverberated against the cavern walls as he lingered by the surface breach.
"From the instant you targeted me, that chance vanished. Your existence terminates right here!"
These weren’t mere boasts—a fresh surge of power erupted from Vaarch’s form.
GRRRHOOOOOOO!!!
The ice worm bellowed as it twisted its colossal frame for a final surge toward the outside, battering Vaarch in the process.
In this clash, speed and superior strike power would decide the victor.
Vaarch had made his play.
"What the..."
Adam’s tone quivered as his vision captured the gray energy radiating from Vaarch, expanding like the blaze of a forge-born sun.
For an instant, he spotted within Vaarch’s aura the silhouette of vast wings, fitting only for an ancient dragon that had roamed this realm for centuries.
Clutch.
Vaarch clasped his spear with iron resolve, its point shining intensely white from his infused might.
Before the ice worm could close the distance to Vaarch, he hurled the spear directly at the fiend.
Whoooooooooosh.
At blinding velocity, the metal lance speared through the ice worm’s full length like a bolt of retribution, ripping the massive, serpentine body apart through raw might.
