Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1550: Questions to a dragon
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
Vaarrh left Adam and Alexia utterly bewildered. At the Frost Oasis's conclusion, they anticipated all sorts of surprises, yet never a dragon beast assuming human shape, emerging from an egg nestled within a radiant pool!
Reality struck hard, forcing them to adjust swiftly unless they wished for Vaarrh to rip them apart.
Indeed, upon Vaarrh's arrival, they figured the dragon skull formed an integral part of him. Still, grasping the mechanics behind it eluded them completely.
At present, duplicates of Vaarrh loomed before them, despite believing his draconic skull long perished—or so they assumed.
"But..." Alexia's voice quivered. "Why? Why do you stand here when your true form lies over there!"
Yet another foolish inquiry. Vaarrh's expression betrayed his dwindling tolerance.
"I suffered a fatal injury and was essentially deceased. Nothing lingers of my original form save the skull. Yet, in the fray, fortune smiled as I plummeted into this abyss within the Primal Lands, compelling me to exhaust every survival tactic available."
His finger directed toward the dragon skull, specifically its shut left orb.
"Observe how the left eye remains shut, though that's misleading. The left eye vanished entirely. I offered it up to spawn the tree. Moreover, I relinquished two fangs to enable the pond's formation and the eggs' hatching."
Vaarrh halted for a moment, reminiscing on past events prior to resuming:
"Hence, through endless years, a profound slumber, vast energies expended, and the demise of numerous beings, I arrived at this form. Frankly, I ought to have stayed encased in the egg for several additional decades, yet I couldn't ignore such a prime chance."
Alexia arched a brow.
"Opportunity?"
Vaarrh inclined his head while his stare turned icy, regarding her as a harbinger poised to enforce judgment.
"Indeed. Slaying you both will restore my strength. Such an enhancement suffices to elevate me back to Lord Level. Doesn't that shine through in my deeds and words?"
Step.
Adam advanced, fixing a piercing gaze on Vaarrh.
"Thus, the Ancient Voice, regulations, challenges—all served merely to lure monsters and Phantoms to this tree for life force absorption? That's the method behind your reborn form, correct?" he inquired.
Vaarrh eyed his physique, apparently endorsing Adam's assertion.
Though freshly hatched from the egg, nudity evaded him. Subtle armor of dusky metal sheathed his torso, limbs, and lower body, granting unrestricted motion alongside keen protrusions ideal for melee weaponry.
Ultimately, Vaarrh dipped his head solemnly.
"Correct. I endured a savage clash nearing death, seized each arising prospect, mustered endurance, and bided my time."
"But!" Alexia burst out. "What if a Lord or Second Rank Phantom arrived here? Huh?"
She believed this query would corner Vaarrh, yet instead, a calm demeanor greeted her.
To Vaarrh, it rang as mere rhetoric.
"Then, death would claim me. The Ancient Voice matches my former might. Should a far superior foe seek my end, escape proved impossible. At K4-Level, you two grasp this truth more keenly than many.
"Yet, superior entities seldom target inferiors. Such triumphs lack value, and even for non-pragmatic souls reveling in combat and carnage, it spells idiocy."
Vaarrh extended his limb ahead while his eyes shifted. Gone was the prior sagacity and insight, unveiling the savage fighter buried in his core.
"Conquering frailty fails to sate bloodlust. Hence, across decades, no superior has ventured here. That serves as prime validation for my claim, right?"
Alexia and Adam shared a look. They recognized Vaarrh's accuracy.
No barrier proved utterly unbreakable in this realm. Strength alone determined a safeguard's resilience and the challenger's capacity to shatter it.
Had Damien appeared, Vaarrh's doom awaited prior to any descent into the abyss by Damien. Neither Ancient Voice nor other aids could rescue him.
Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.
Faint quakes echoed from distance. Beasts once barred from the Frost Oasis now surged toward it unhindered.
Admittedly, the blue tree and luminous pool had vanished, yet the area brimmed with potent energies.
Adam, Alexia, and Vaarrh themselves embodied mobile troves, brimming with vital forces.
Thus, chatter's era ended. Vaarrh required their demise to reclaim might. Alexia needed to aid Adam, while Adam sought his state—the Blood of God.
Yet... prior to that, Adam posed a final query.
"Why reveal all this to us?" he questioned.
Vaarrh fluttered his eyelids once, momentarily surprised.
"Hmm? Why withhold? Queries directed at me earn responses, and I demand reciprocity. Simple politeness, that's all."
His eyes swept over Adam and Alexia, a spark igniting within.
"Still, I'd deceive if denying another motive. Truth is, awakening demanded victory assurance. Hence, divulging secrets to the doomed poses no issue, as corpses stay silent."
Step.
Vaarrh lunged ahead, his presence erupting in azure flames of shadow.
"Regardless, respect's been extended sufficiently. Time for action now. If this clash marks your final stand, unleash your full arsenal!"
