Endless Evolution: Last Star Chapter 1533: Amber Ring
Previously on Endless Evolution: Last Star...
At this point, the golden spiders surged ahead with unprecedented velocity.
For Adam and Alexia, this appeared manageable at first, thanks to their proven strategy against such threats.
Alexia’s frost waves didn’t just encase the spiders in ice; they also hindered the ones that dodged the freeze.
"I’ll halt them!" Alexia shouted, channeling a surge of power into her gauntlets.
In the instant that followed, the orb quivered, unleashing a mighty frost surge that extended across dozens of meters.
Yet...
"Agh?"
As the frost wave swept toward the golden spiders, it had zero impact. They kept racing at their original pace, perhaps even accelerating slightly.
Adam glanced upward at the platform, his worst suspicions now verified.
"Damn, it’s not nearly as balanced as we assumed, huh?"
Previously, a single socket vanished each second, meaning 600 sockets granted them 10 full minutes. However, once the ten golden spiders formed a swift amber circle, two sockets started vanishing per second.
Their leftover four minutes shrank to just two, and possibly even shorter.
"Alexia, that’s not effective! We need to block them differently before time runs out!" Adam yelled.
Her gaze flickered wildly. She couldn’t fathom why her power failed against the spiders.
Luckily for Alexia, alongside Adam, she possessed another steadfast companion eager to aid her.
"Alexia, he’s correct. Probably, these golden spiders zip by too quickly for the ice to solidify on them. You must team up."
Louis’s words somehow soothed Alexia, prompting a firm nod from her.
The icy flows pouring from her halted; no longer required, she turned her attention to Adam.
"Let’s attempt to block them. My hammer can smash them!"
"Give it a shot!" Adam urged.
He preferred to witness the outcome of Alexia’s effort prior to deciding. An notion brewed in his mind, though uncertainty lingered.
Step. Step. Step.
Alexia charged ahead, her footsteps rumbling the earth, while the frost mist from her clash with the ice worm enveloped her once more. Had that ice worm lacked such toughness, her blow would have swiftly concluded the fight, sparing her the need for Adam’s assistance.
Now, she leaped skyward and balled her fists. The hammer form gleaming in her vision materialized overhead right away.
This wasn’t a tool she wielded; no ice hammer rested in her grasp. Instead, it floated above, mimicking her actions to enhance her assault. The ice spear operated identically to every other armament in this power.
Adam squinted his eyes.
In spite of Alexia’s looming danger, the golden spiders showed no response.
Crash!
The enormous ice hammer slammed straight into the amber circle, comprised of those ten dashing golden spiders.
Chilly vapor and frozen fragments scattered aside. The earth quaked, dislodging small rocks from the cavern’s roof.
But...
"WHAT!?" Alexia cried out in shock.
She stared at the pit formed by her impact. Even so, the golden spiders remained unfazed. They persisted in their route, bounding across the gap underfoot.
Adam’s brow furrowed. The nightmare he’d dreaded had unfolded.
’They’re racing too swiftly. Slower pace would’ve sent them tumbling into that pit or forced a detour. Plus, they utterly disregarded Alexia’s blow. That hammer possessed ample might to hurl the worm away; she applied plenty of strength.’
Crack. Crack. Crack.
A shower of sparks cascaded upon them, drawing Adam and Alexia’s gazes upward.
Golden radiance flickered like fire along the platform’s borders, setting it into a gradual spin that quickened the socket depletion. Presently, three sockets vanished each second.
Less than a minute remained for Adam and Alexia to conquer this challenge.
It might’ve seemed trivial, given endless retries. Yet they remained unaware this marked their final chance.
[The platform spins excessively fast!]
[Failure to halt it means the platform’s destruction!]
[Lacking the platform, retrying this trial becomes impossible!]
Adam and Alexia’s eyes bulged in alarm.
Stopping the golden spiders demanded immediate action here!
"Adam! Curse it! Assure me you’ve got a strategy!" Alexia gestured frantically.
Oddly, Adam affirmed with a nod, his emerald eyes intensifying.
"Yes, I’ve got a notion. I’d rather avoid it, but circumstances leave us no alternative, do they?"
His query addressed not just Alexia, but another presence too.
’Of course.’ The Silver Weaver’s tone resounded in his thoughts. ’Proceed; we mistook speed as the trial’s crux, yet erred. Your needle suffices—that’s me!’
Whooooosh.
Simultaneously, Adam dashed forth, abandoning his dark staff. It clattered to the floor, though his gloves and boots stayed equipped.
He sped by Alexia, her eyes capturing the elongated white needle now clutched in his hand.
With no delay, aware of merely 30 seconds left, Adam advanced, positioning himself squarely within the amber circle.
He knew their immense velocity might batter him down and inflict grave harm, yet urgency compelled his move!
"We can do this!"
Adam thrust his needle forward, clasping it firmly with both hands. Actually, the Silver Weaver bolstered him with full might.
Crack. Crack. Crack.
Golden spider after golden spider collided with Adam’s needle, sending jolts of backlash and agony surging through him.
Still, he withstood it, rooted in place as every golden spider impaled itself on his needle.
Their velocity prevented any halt.
"Gha..." Adam exhaled deeply, a brilliant glow shimmering in his gaze.
Above Adam and Alexia, 60 amber stars now floated.
The initial trial had succeeded.
