Adam takes a reckless gamble by engaging the Head Golem, purposefully shedding his own power to create a void within his inner space. This desperate maneuver causes his Evolution Tree to fracture, horrifying Silvana as the structure begins to crumble. However, the destruction allows ancient energy to flow into the rift, manifesting as the Ancient Flux and granting Adam a foothold in a power he previously could not contain. With this new energy stabilizing his condition, Adam successfully manifests a barrier to halt the Golem’s devastating strike.

It wasn't merely a conscious choice by Adam to strip himself of his power to welcome the ancient energy into his internal world.

In truth, even if he had utilized the full extent of the energy he displayed moments before, he likely would have ended up with shattered bones upon clashing with the Head Golem. Unlike their previous encounter, the giant was now striking with every ounce of its strength.

Without his strength to shield him, the Head Golem’s massive fist should have erased Adam from existence, leaving nothing behind but a crimson smear on the ground.

Any K4-Phantom would have met such a grim end without exception. This wasn't a question of raw physical prowess or innate talent; stripped of his energy, Adam was virtually no different from a common human, especially after such a violent and sudden loss of power.

However...

Sometimes, a single variable is enough to turn a fatal scenario completely on its head.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

A barrier of gray-purple hue manifested from Adam's palm, enveloping him like a defensive dome. His partially covered form remained motionless, while the full force of the Head Golem’s strike was redirected along the surface of the shield.

The thick snow surrounding Adam was violently displaced by the resulting shockwave, revealing the frozen, gray earth beneath, littered with bones trapped in layers of ice.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

As a subsequent wave of power surged, the ground fractured. A crater formed behind Adam as the terrain buckled under the immense pressure.

Then, the Head Golem faced the most devastating consequence—the recoil of its own momentum.

Tremble.

The gray-purple shield vibrated one last time before compressing into a tight ring. In the following instant, it unleashed all its stored energy outward.

The Head Golem attempted to retreat to escape the backlash, but it was far too slow.

Crack. Crack. Crack.

Like a series of detonating charges, the energy wave tore through the Head Golem’s arm, reducing it to rubble.

Frigid, dark stones saturated with energy tumbled to the earth, kicking up plumes of snow.

The destruction continued relentlessly until the Head Golem’s entire limb was gone.

When the energy wave finally reached its shoulder, the massive guardian lost its footing. For the first time in centuries, the colossus wavered.

The Head Golem, seemingly unable to comprehend the situation, clawed desperately at the air to regain its balance.

It failed.

Thump!

The Head Golem crashed down onto a single knee, making the earth shudder. The impact sent gusts of biting wind howling in every direction, forcing Alexia to shield herself with her arms. Her astonishment at the scene far outweighed even that of the Golem.

Adam remained rooted to the spot. A thin veneer of ice continued to creep over his skin, crawling up his chest and toward his neck.

"Y-Yes..."

The Head Golem’s gravelly voice echoed through the air.

Simultaneously, the frost reached Adam’s face, edging closer to his eyes.

"Now I see... young man..."

In that exact moment, Adam’s eyes flared with light, mirroring the glow of his Evolution Tree. The solitary spark he had left in the dark abyss ignited, flooding the Evolution Tree with its returned energy.

In the blink of an eye, the thick ice that nearly transformed Adam into another frozen monument of the Frost Ridge shattered into a thousand pieces.

Adam remained silent, closing his eyes to perceive the changes within himself.

Step. Step. Step.

The sound of approaching footsteps caused Silvana to turn. She watched Adam walking toward her.

"Adam!" She rushed to him, her expression filled with relief and excitement. "Are you okay?"

She threw her arms around him, unable to mask her intense emotions. Having felt the echoes of what Adam experienced, she had been truly terrified, even if she only sensed a fraction of it.

In all her time as an Operator, she had never felt so utterly powerless. The brief moment she lost her strength had been enough to haunt her.

But...

Adam did not return the embrace, nor did he speak. Like a moth captivated by a flame, his gaze was fixed on the rift, mesmerized by the Ancient Flux and its Ancient Energy.

"This..."

"Agh?"

Silvana pulled back, her face draining of color as she looked at him.

Adam’s gaze was unfathomable, his eyes like two voids reflecting the violet shimmer of the Ancient Flux.

"Isn’t it beautiful?" he remarked, gesturing toward the sky.

She followed his gaze.

"Y-Yes," Silvana whispered, swallowing hard. Unlike Adam, who viewed the ancient energy as a priceless treasure, she felt only a sense of profound dread.

Incredibly, it was Adam’s perspective that held the truth.

He had successfully harnessed the ancient energy during his very first trek into the Primal Lands. Unbeknownst to him, this was a feat only a tiny percentage of Phantoms could ever achieve.

"Still..." Silvana tightened her fist and punched Adam squarely in the chest. "Don’t you ever do that again!"

Adam didn't flinch. He simply turned his calm gaze toward Silvana.

"It was too risky! What if you had made a mistake?! If that golem had hesitated for even half a second... You would have died! We would have died, Adam! Don’t you understand that?!"

Her outburst was logical, yet Adam offered no apology.

"No."

"Huh?"

Step.

He moved forward, winding his fingers into Silvana’s hair and tilting her head back as he stood over her.

"I did what was necessary. We cannot defeat the greatest threat to this world without taking risks. But... it isn't just about the danger."

Thump. Thump. Thump.

Silvana’s heart raced as Adam leaned in. Their faces were inches apart, their lips nearly meeting, but Adam only stared into her eyes, which now mirrored his own intensity.

"You feel it, don’t you? This power is unlike anything else... I’ve never felt this good. It’s as if I—"

Silvana cut him off, finishing his thought. She understood perfectly. Deep within her soul, she felt the same resonance.

"It’s like you stopped playing by other people’s rules and created your own, right?"

A predatory grin spread across Adam’s face. He tightened his grip on her hair, pressing her closer.

Before another word could be uttered, he kissed her deeply. Their hearts beat in perfect synchronization, mirroring the harmonizing energy flows within the Evolution Tree.

Just like their pulses, the star energy and the ancient energy had become one within Adam’s world.

"Now you see."

A wild, feverish light sparked in Silvana’s eyes.

"Y-Yes."
