Serey attended a wedding where his bride was murdered before their vows. He felt indifferent to the tragedy, viewing his past lovers as mere toys. Later, while drinking with an old acquaintance, Serey admitted he didn't understand love and considered her a distraction.

With just a few words, the woman saw through all of Serey, "You won’t feel sad, not even guilty. In your view, from the very beginning you were not of the same class, not the same species, just like a master treating their pet."

Serey was rendered speechless by her words, yet stubbornly responded, "So what?"

"So what? So I’m leaving." The woman said, picking up her bag and making a face at him.

Serey watched the woman’s back and suddenly asked, "Do you love me?"

"Who knows? My love isn’t as cheap as yours."

The woman finished speaking, pushed the door open, and left. Serey hesitated for a moment, then quickly followed her.

Serey rarely wastes too much time on one woman, but this time he followed her for several months. She didn’t chase him away, and sometimes they would even have meals together, chat, and help each other out when encountering trouble.

Of course, it was mainly Serey helping her. As a Night Race Lord, Serey possessed unimaginable power.

Time slowly passed until one night during a chat, Serey suddenly asked.

"By the way, what’s your name?"

Serey realized a crucial thing—he had known her for so long but didn’t even know her name.

"It’s a secret."

The woman decisively rejected him.

"Huh?"

Realizing this, Serey briefly recalled, discovering that even though they’d been together for so long, he knew very little about her story. For the majority of their journey, it was Serey who chattered on and on about the strange events he’d encountered in his long life, while she listened, occasionally responding.

"I thought we were friends." Serey said.

"Oh no, no, being your friend is quite a dangerous task." The woman shook her head repeatedly.

"Then why don’t you just get rid of me?" Serey asked again.

The woman asked back, "I never stopped you, so why don’t you leave on your own?"

Seeing Serey stunned, the woman laughed happily, "Serey, you truly are an interesting guy, I kind of like you, but you really are a rogue, a damned villain."

Serey listened in silence.

"I know, when you, this bastard, completely understand me, that’s when you’ll leave," the woman squinted, "so I won’t let you understand me so easily, this is a war of attrition."

"The last thing I lack is time." Serey said.

"So what? You always think you have infinite time, so you have infinite capital, but I’m different," the woman approached Serey, "I’m just a mortal. My time is limited, maybe before you fully understand me, I’ll be dead."

Serey laughed in fury, "You want to wager your life with me? For this boring contest?"

"Boring? Isn’t this quite interesting?" the woman said, "Want to compete? This time an arrogant Undead might just fall at the hands of a mortal."

"So, do you love me?"

"Love, love, love," the woman impatiently replied, "Stop asking that, you’re so childish."

"Childish?"

For the first time, Serey was called childish, and the woman before him might not even be a fraction of his age.

"Yeah, no matter if you’ve lived hundreds or thousands of years, you’re still childish like a kid." The woman commented.

Serey fell silent, having to admit, he was indeed intrigued by the woman’s wager. Among the many people he had met, they all tried various ways to attract his attention, attempting to be remembered forever, wishing to grasp him in their hands.

In this accustomed state, the woman before him was a complete oddity; Serey couldn’t figure out what she was thinking.

"What kind of flower do you like?" Serey asked.

"Why are you suddenly asking that?"

"I’m trying to get to know you."

"Hmm... let’s talk about it in a year?"

"What do you mean?"

"Based on your current performance, and my feelings towards you, I’m planning to give you the answer to that question in a year, how about that?"

"But I want to know more about you."

"Then you have to work hard, oh great Undead, try to make me fall in love with you and open my heart to you while I’m still alive." The woman laughed particularly brightly.

"So what’s your name?" Serey asked, "At least let me know my opponent’s name."

The woman hesitated for a moment, but eventually extended her hand for a fist bump with Serey.

"Aisha Tash."

"Aisha..."

"Aisha!"

Serey called out that distant name, suddenly waking from the bed, glancing nervously around, only to find that familiar figure absent.

Yes, she had long since not been there, in the dim room, Serey was all alone.

Serey collapsed onto the bed, and after a long while, slowly got up. He looked towards the wall across, where countless oil paintings were hung, each depicting a beautiful woman.

Their gazes gentle, as if all looking at Serey together.

Serey didn’t care for these paintings; in his view, they were just adornments, a disguise, hiding the one he truly loved among the many.

"Aisha..."

Serey murmured that name, looking towards a painting in the corner.

In the painting, Aisha was as beautiful as she was in Serey’s memory, reaching out to stroke the face, the nose tip in the painting, those scarlet eyes just like Serey’s.

In a trance, Serey could still hear her scolding voice.

"You’re cheating, Serey!"

"You long for a home yet fear a home binding you, you’re truly a greedy creature."

"Serey, you’ve been loved by too many women in your lifetime, love has become a common thing to you, but I’m different...

I’ve lacked that pure, beautiful thing all my life."

Serey watched Aisha’s face begin to burn, inch by inch of skin and flesh turning to ash, Serey was terrified, trying to slap away the flames, yet unable to stop it at all.

A crisp collision sound awakened Serey, and he blankly looked at the blank wall, realizing that everything just now was an illusion, and his random slapping had knocked the painting to the ground.

Picking up the portrait, Serey rehung it, looking at the face overlapping with his memory, and he could still remember what she said to him then.

"It’s okay, Serey."

Even if she was bathed in sunlight, wrapped in flames, she still spoke to him in that gentle tone.

"You’re just not ready yet."

She spoke with a voice full of anticipation.

"One day, you will achieve it."
