Endless Debt Chapter 1325 - 100: The Shelter’s Wrath (Part 2)

"Let’s search first, maybe we can find some rare books?"
"Alright, alright."
Aimou complied with Bologue’s suggestion, following him up and down between the shelves.
More often than not, Bologue was like a bandit, always holding on to the idea that thieves never leave empty-handed. Even though he couldn’t understand what these books were about, anything present within Raymond Gaudent was likely valuable, and he needed to find a way to take it out.
After a careful selection, Aimou actually uncovered a few books that seemed interesting. Holding the heavy volumes, she asked, "Can we carry all this out?"
"Not a big problem, if worse comes to worst, we can always abandon them later."
Bologue waved his hand lightly, and a Rhombus Shield slid towards Aimou. It began to wriggle, multiply, and decompose, directly swallowing the books in Aimou’s arms. Then it solidified into a floating cube, silently following Bologue.
"It’s really convenient," Aimou exclaimed in admiration.
Bologue walked to the breach in the crystalline wall, finding it hard to imagine what kind of force could shatter such a special material. This wasn’t the same as breaking a common wall; this level of damage was already a harm to Raymond Gaudent itself.
Hot air wafted from the breach of the crystalline wall. Bologue braced against the face-searing heat waves, struggling to peek out.
He saw it.
Ruined spires stood in the city’s ruins, and in their encircled core, at the center of the city, perched an enormous twisted, swelling fleshy tumor, standing like a mountain of flesh.
Bologue guessed it was once the location of the Golden Palace, now replaced by this abominable object. The flesh mountain was grotesquely swollen, like a searing hot hunk of meat, with a nauseating greasy sheen, as if daubed in fresh blood.
Blood seeped and evaporated from its surface, a thick bloody aura spreading, mixed with a nauseating stench.
"The Calamity of this world..."
Bologue marveled, and soon he saw that inside the bizarre and frenzied mountain of flesh, light burned like flames, tearing the darkness, the intense light illuminating the interior of the flesh, giving it an orange-red translucence like amber.
Amber... no, within the mountain of flesh, under the illumination of the light, many internal structures became visible, veins spread like spiderwebs, they were like thick roots, twisting and overlapping, with the organs vaguely visible, resembling deep shadows enshrined in amber.
The endless brilliance beneath the Calamity of the world was the light’s burn completely engulfed by it.
Deep, distant breaths sounded again, and it was then that Bologue realized the many uneven lumps on the mountain of flesh were writhing fiercely.
They were countless human faces embellishing the mountain of flesh, these faces moaned with extreme pain, bloodshot eyes bulging, helplessly staring into the surroundings, mouths wide open, silently screaming out their agony and suffering.
Whenever the twisted mountain of flesh trembled like the thundering clash of war drums, the entire city would quiver with it, sounding like the howl of a giant beast’s heart, jolting everyone’s nerves, pushing them into an unbearable panic.
The heart of the fleshy mountain beat, it breathed, and the countless faces moved with it, their mouths involuntarily opened in agony, like external organs, taking big gulps of air, yet seemingly never able to satiate the lungs’ hunger.
The expelled airflow gathered into a terrifying whirlwind, while tons of ashes poured from its mouth. These were the burnt remains of flesh inside the mountain.
The ashes soared and fell, like unending snowflakes, burying the entire city.
"Is that where we’re heading next?"
Aimou poked her head out too, seeing the terrifying mountain of flesh.
"Get down!"
Suddenly, Bologue thrust Aimou’s head down, huddling her into a corner. At the same time, the rumbling breathing grew louder, shaking the heavens and earth, a roaring hotwave released from countless faces atop the mountain of flesh.
The scorching wind battered the buildings along its path, a tongue of fire shot through the breach of the crystalline wall, expelling ashes that scatted indoors, piling in the corner.
A few tens of seconds later, this torrid wind finally ceased.
Aimou stood up, still shaken, cautiously peering out through the breach. Only then did she realize she and Bologue were atop a towering spire.
"We might try escaping from here, circumvent these crystalline wall obstructions," Aimou suggested.
"But we’d be directly facing the power of the Calamity," Bologue refused Aimou’s suggestion, "don’t forget how we almost died last time here."
Bad memories surged, Aimou fell silent, ashes had piled several meters deep within the city, they looked mundane but within the searing ashes lurked countless appendages, yearning for all digestible organic matter.
Bologue made a brief search again, on the other side of the room, he found another door.
"Looks like we’ll have to try each one," Bologue asked, "What do you think?"
"Is there any other way?" Aimou sighed helplessly, once again overlapping with Bologue.
Bologue said, "I believe King Solomon must have a peculiar sense of humor."
"Why do you say that?"
"Don’t you think Raymond Gaudent is like a labyrinth filled with traps?" Bologue said, "If it were me, I’d definitely be seated somewhere, observing these little thieves who entered the labyrinth, betting on who can last the longest, who can go the farthest."
