Endless Debt Chapter 1125 - 126: Movie Marathon

"Speaking of which, why did you suddenly come to Oath City, Opus? You haven’t shown up in these parts for many years."
Inside the Undying Club, Serey rarely left his spot behind the bar. He casually sat down at a table, casually munching on fries as he addressed the person next to him.
"A directive from the Decision Room. When Bologue and the others uncovered the King’s Shield Guard’s hoarding of the Scourge Epidemic, they urgently summoned me. As you’re aware, crossing the rift is fraught with immense danger due to the overwhelming power of the Seekers of Glory. Thus, I made haste, flying for several days straight to reach here."
Fuen lifted a tattered paper cup, downing its contents in a single gulp. "It’s just like… just like the Dawn War, when those wise individuals dispersed the dark clouds, leaving the Night Race to perish wholesale under the sun."
"The Clarks’ power might not secure victory in direct confrontations, but when it comes to altering the battlefield’s environment and manipulating the weather, we excel."
Serey listened to Fuen’s explanation, nodding in agreement. He was genuinely relieved that this fellow had banished all the fog into the sky. In recent times, this had been the most pleasant weather Oath City, Oubos, had experienced in decades.
The sky, which had previously been perpetually overcast and devoid of light, once allowed Serey to venture out without excessive concern for the sun’s intensity. Now, merely standing at the threshold, he could feel the sun’s searing warmth.
Fortunately, this period of clear skies was transient. As the city recuperated from its recent disaster, dormant factories hummed back to life, and extinguished furnaces roared anew. Soon, the familiar oppressive dark clouds would once again engulf the city.
"Was the Destruction of Paths completely eradicated?" Serey inquired further.
When Xilin departed, he had, with the fury of a madman, commanded the rocky cliffs, utterly annihilating the already crumbling Paths. Now, upon entering the Great Rift, those expansive, tumor-like abominations were conspicuously absent, as if they had never materialized.
"I’m uncertain," Fuen responded, shaking his head. "However, I do know that as long as Devils exist in this world, so too will Demons and outlaws… Wherever such individuals congregate, that place can be deemed the Paths."
"Merely treating the symptoms, not the underlying cause, wouldn’t you say?" Serey chuckled.
Approaching footsteps heralded the arrival of Bode’s skeletal form, with Wei’Er trotting faithfully at his heels.
"Long time no see, Fuen."
Bode called out cheerfully to Fuen, waving before launching himself into a hearty embrace that lifted Fuen clean off his feet.
"Careful, careful!"
Fuen yelped in pain as Bode’s bony structure pressed uncomfortably against his chest.
Wei’Er leaped onto the table, her soft tail brushing gently against Fuen’s outstretched palm. Fuen stared in surprise for a moment before speaking, "Wei’Er?"
A smile graced Fuen’s lips as he reached out to stroke Wei’Er’s head. "Why have you transformed into a black cat? I recall when I left, you were still a fluffy orange feline."
Wei’Er replied, meticulously licking her paw, "A cat’s lifespan is considerably shorter than a human’s. Not long after your departure, I transitioned to a new form."
"To be perfectly honest, Fuen, when I first encountered Palmer, I never imagined he could be your son," Bode remarked, settling beside Fuen to engage in conversation.
"Why? Don’t I resemble him?" Fuen asked, stroking his chin, which he considered quite distinguished.
Bode chuckled. "No, it’s just difficult to envision someone like you fathering children… For the longest time, I assumed you were infertile."
"Ah?"
"Indeed, certain individuals leave such a profound and unique mark on our memories that picturing them in domestic bliss, raising a family, becomes a challenge," Wei’Er chimed in. "However, exceptions exist, much like how opposites attract. Serey serves as a prime example of this."
"Alright, let’s cease this discussion here, everyone. We’re here to reconnect, not to conduct a trial, understand?" Serey conceded defeat with repeated gestures.
Fuen turned his gaze towards the other side of the bar, where tables and chairs had been removed, and a large screen now dominated an entire wall. Bologue and Palmer were hunched over, diligently adjusting equipment, engrossed in some clandestine operation.
"What exactly are they occupied with?"
Fuen inquired, having observed their persistent preoccupation since his arrival.
"There’s an event scheduled for tonight; would you care to join?" Wei’Er proposed.
"What sort of event is it?" Fuen realized that considerable transformations had occurred within the Undying Club during his absence.
"A film marathon."
Serey elaborated, "It involves viewing several movies consecutively."
"Intriguing. How does one participate?"
"Simply remain here. When the designated time arrives, the screening will commence," Serey explained.
The chime of the doorbell signaled the arrival of the initial guests. Aimou entered, accompanied by Belli and Balder. Even within the establishment, Balder maintained his cumbersome protective attire.
"How has business been?" Serey greeted them warmly.
"It is fine," Aimou declared, looking thoroughly worn out. "We have just finished refining a solvent capable of eradicating the lingering Scourge Epidemic. The next phase falls to the Logistics Department, who will aerosolize it throughout the metropolis. Their objective is to halt any further accumulation of the Scourge Epidemic and ensure its complete decomposition."
Concurrently, the Sublimation Furnace Core operated at peak capacity. The formidable Ether storms, remnants of the Seekers of Glory's passage, continued to plague the city. To avert a secondary catastrophe, the responsibility of neutralizing all paranormal threats was assigned to the Sublimation Furnace Core.
Serey and Bode made their way to the kitchen, commencing preparations for a meal, including pizza and french fries. It seemed that the existence of the Undying Club's culinary services had nearly slipped everyone's memory.
