Endless Debt Chapter 1036 - 98: The Final Moment_3

"But compared to all that, what I like more is you, your Order Bureau’s magic power," Red Dog said puzzledly, "You don’t need any war declaration, nor any promise of honor or status, or noble identity, yet you deceive these people into dying... I’m really curious why."

"Because it’s a job, a responsibility," Lebius said, "You wouldn’t understand."

Red Dog raised an eyebrow and whispered, "Lebius, you’ve changed a lot. I still remember you yelling at me like a lion; but look at you now, has time erased your hatred? You’re too calm now, like an insidious viper."

"Some things, the simpler they seem, the more complicated they are. Some people, the calmer they appear, the more they hide beneath," Red Dog said smugly, as if flaunting his wisdom.

He continued, "Truly dangerous people aren’t those who play tricks, but those who maintain a façade."

Lebius responded calmly, "Are you talking about me?"

Red Dog still smiled faintly and said, "Not talking about you, just sharing some principles."

"Then are you the one playing tricks?" Lebius asked in return.

"Perhaps."

Red Dog maintained a nonchalant demeanor, yet beneath Lebius’s calm exterior, there was extreme restraint. From the moment he saw Red Dog, he couldn’t wait to kill him.

"Lebius, if one day you find that everything you’ve held onto is meaningless, what would you think?"

Red Dog asked suddenly. The topic shifted so quickly, Lebius didn’t know how to respond immediately.

And there’s no need for him to answer.

"You will become like me."

Red Dog laughed forcefully, as if cursing Lebius.

"Everything is meaningless, so whatever I do, others’ accusations, life and death, are all meaningless. In other words... I can do as I please!"

Red Dog, like a crazed patient, stayed in a state of high excitement, "I’ve been looking forward to how I’ll slaughter your team after everything ends."

The atmosphere suddenly became tense, and then a strong hand pressed on Red Dog’s shoulder, also suppressing his restless heart.

"Don’t forget why we’re here." The voice of the Fourth Seat was cold.

The Fourth Seat didn’t like Red Dog. Most in the King’s Secret Sword didn’t. He was a rebellious fellow, always keeping a playful mindset, as if the whole world was a frenetic amusement park for him, and he was the sole player.

He cared about nothing.

"Alright, alright."

Red Dog was somewhat dissatisfied, but there was nothing he could do. Although Lebius and Geoffrey hadn’t managed to kill him, they had severely injured Red Dog.

Lebius carried soul scars, weakening the stability of the Alchemy Matrix. His path to advancement became perilous, but the same was true for Red Dog. The scars etched into his soul nearly blocked his path to the Seeker of Glory.

"Fourth Seat."

Upon seeing the Fourth Seat, Lebius nodded gently in acknowledgement. The man before him, robust and strong, was one of the few rational individuals he could converse with in the King’s Secret Sword.

The division within the King’s Secret Sword wasn’t based on power levels but classified according to different responsibilities, where those with higher seats held more authority.

Red Dog was once deemed the prodigy second only to Xilin within the King’s Secret Sword, reaching the Defender status young, achieving the Sixth Seat. In his estimation, reaching the Tier of Seeker of Glory was just a matter of time, and the higher seat was already in his grasp.

But the secret war changed everything; Red Dog thought this was just the beginning, unaware it was the peak. Ever since the secret war, he remained in the Sixth Seat, unchanged.

Had it been just this, Red Dog’s heart might not have become so twisted and deformed. What truly pained him was the pursuit by later arrivals, like the Fourth Seat.

The former Fourth Seat died in the secret war, leaving his seat vacant for a while. Red Dog thought he would replace it but didn’t expect to be replaced by this person.

He was younger than Red Dog, equipped with a more advanced Alchemy Matrix, and had greater potential for future growth.

Red Dog sometimes thought, if not for the betrayal of the Second Seat’s faction, he might have already been replaced by someone else, becoming just a slightly more seasoned Secret Sword.

Of course, these matters didn’t matter anymore. Red Dog might have been troubled and pained before, but after witnessing the presence deep within the Pillar of Royal Authority, everything became meaningless.

"You are all fools," Red Dog thought, as his gaze swept over faces filled with fervor, "complete fools."

He alone remained clear-headed.

Thinking of these, Red Dog felt absurdly ridiculous, unable to restrain a manic smile.

This is nothing more than a meaningless game.

The Fourth Seat asked, "When do we start?"

Just as the question was asked, a fragmentary sound flashed across Lebius’s mind, shortly followed by Yuriel’s voice.

"Cargo has arrived."

Before the voice faded, footsteps approached from behind the dense mist. A tall shadow bore a heavy iron box, walking towards them. Lebius recognized the face; it was Hart, who was supposed to be on vacation. Besides Hart, there were Kemp and Shelley, the temporary action group was reunited once more.
