Endless Debt Chapter 1028 - 96: Suicide Squad (Part 3)
He was trapped in a vicious cycle.
Belphegor?
The conversation he had with Lebius earlier must have caught his attention; perhaps it’s him stirring trouble now. Although this Devil is imprisoned deep within the Order Bureau, he still possesses a certain degree of influence over the Cultivation Room.
A slight tremor was audible as Bologue noticed a straight fissure appearing on the wall before him. The fissure widened and expanded to both sides, and a door identical to others suddenly emerged from behind the wall.
Bologue noticed the nameplate on the door.
Decision Room.
Bologue exhaled deeply, then raised an eyebrow. He adjusted his clothes to approach a state of perfection, raised his hand to knock, and then used all his strength to turn the doorknob, pulling open a patch of darkness.
After a brief moment of dizziness, Bologue found himself in a completely murky darkness. Shortly after, a deep, lingering tone resonated in the darkness, and then light descended step by step, illuminating the magnificent Inverted Hall.
Bologue had been here once before, and he wasn’t unfamiliar with what was to come. After traversing the long and tedious invisible steps, Bologue once again met Maria, or rather the Crowd, in the profound darkness.
Bologue sat heavily in a chair, having given up on pondering the nature of the chair.
Tentacles? A mound of flesh? Who cares?
Bologue spoke, "A direct summons from the Crowd, I guess something significant is about to happen, isn’t it?"
Maria smiled slightly and said, "The Order Bureau is ready to negotiate with the King’s Secret Sword."
"Are you sure?"
Bologue had anticipated this but was still a bit taken aback to hear it from Maria’s mouth, "There are many in the Field Operations Department who are dissatisfied with this."
"I know."
"Are you plotting something? Could this negotiation just be a façade?"
Maria smiled without speaking.
Sometimes, not answering is an answer in itself.
Bologue was mentally prepared.
Maria said, "The second negotiation with the King’s Secret Sword will take place within the Great Rift, but this is just a cover. We will use the guise of negotiation to launch a surprise attack on the Forlorn Crossroads."
"Unite with the King’s Secret Sword first to deal with the King’s Shield Guard?" Bologue replied, "How can you be sure that the King’s Secret Sword will cooperate with us?"
"Because we will offer him what he desires."
"Xilin’s corpse."
"Indeed, Xilin’s corpse will also be present at the negotiations, personally guarded by Nesanel. The King’s Secret Sword will see what they’ve longed for, which will also be our gesture of goodwill."
Bologue snorted at Maria’s words, "Do you think the King’s Secret Sword will keep their word?"
"No," Maria confidently replied, "but this is our territory; I am confident of controlling everything."
"I hope so."
Bologue knew he couldn’t argue against the Crowd; it contained immense wisdom. Even with ten minds, he couldn’t outwit the Crowd.
"So, why did you summon me here? Surely it’s not just to hear you ramble?"
Maria said, "I have a mission for you."
Bologue stared into Maria’s eyes. In the fabricated illusion of the Crowd, her gaze was so hollow, as if soulless.
"In what capacity should I undertake this mission, as a member of the Special Operations Group, or as the leader of the Temporary Operations Group?"
"Leader, Leader Bologue."
Bologue sighed in relief; there was no involvement from Lebius in this matter, which was good. He could understand Lebius’s hatred, but he also hoped Lebius would live well.
"Although there were some issues with your earlier infiltration, the results were quite satisfactory. Mainly, you figured out the strength of the King’s Shield Guard and their preparation of the Plague of Decay.
Under the Tyrant’s protection, they remain shrouded in darkness. We are unclear on when they will release the Plague of Decay, so our actions must be swift.
I hope you can act as a guide, leading the King’s Secret Sword in a raid on the King’s Shield Guard."
Hearing this, Bologue felt a complex swirl of emotions. He actually had to team up with the enemy, "Am I going alone?"
"Yes, just you."
"You also fear the King’s Secret Sword’s breach of faith, don’t you?"
"Yes, that’s why we’re sending you, an Undead, to act. Even if you face betrayal, we can recover you, minimizing unnecessary casualties."
"Sounds like I’m quite the handy tool."
Bologue had no objections to this. Without teammates by his side, he could take bigger risks; the tragedy of Church would not happen again, which greatly relieved his mind.
"It’s not just that. Your selection is also because you have the capability to personally execute these traitors in the event of betrayal."
Maria’s acknowledgment of Bologue’s abilities surprised him.
"Is this a trick on the King’s Secret Sword? Continuing the negotiations, even using Xilin’s corpse as leverage, forcing them to send people to deal with the King’s Shield Guard... After all, these are traitors splitting from their own ranks, so they should be happy to comply." Bologue understood the connection.
After contemplating for a moment, Bologue made a request, "I want to bring someone with me on my mission."
"Who?"
"My partner, Palmer Clarks."
Maria’s face showed an unnatural smile, "Your partner isn’t an Undying Body."
"I know, but I also know he has a grudge against that Morrison guy. If Palmer can’t personally take out that bastard, he’ll be sulking for a long time."
