Lin Feng officially joins the Sword Pavilion and is assigned to stay on the same mountain as Sun Xiurong. Elder Cui reveals that Lin Feng joined the sect because of Sun Xiurong. Elder Shen of the Alchemy Pavilion arrives, attempting to recruit Lin Feng due to his rumored alchemy talents, but Elder Cui firmly refuses, stating Lin Feng will remain in the Sword Pavilion.

Shen Tianji’s expression changed slightly, but he didn’t decide to pursue the matter further. He took a small breath and nodded, "Alright, I will take my leave then..."

"Elder Shen," Cui Shuyin stopped him, "I know how eager you are to see Alchemy Hall defeated in the Grand Tournament. So, how about this? Why not grant Lin Feng the privileges of the Alchemy Pavilion without requiring him to join it? If you do, it may help him in some way to fulfill your dream. Surely you’re willing to take that much of a gamble for something you’ve pursued for so long?"

Lin Feng looked at Cui Shuyin while wondering if they were really that low on resources.

Shen Tianji frowned slightly. His conflict with Alchemy Hall is a personal matter, and the one who should fulfill his dream should be someone who is part of the Alchemy Pavilion or his personal disciple.

Giving someone the privileges of the Alchemy Pavilion while they are not part of it just to claim credit is not something he wanted to do. However, he didn’t mind nurturing a talented alchemist as long as he was part of the Mysterious Heaven Sect.

"Elder Cui, that is impossible, I won’t grant him the privileges of the Alchemy Pavilion... but he can get spirit herbs from the Alchemy Hall at the same price as a disciple of the Alchemy Pavilion on one condition..."

Cui Shuyin wasn’t disappointed hearing that as she had a feeling that Shen Tianji would refuse her demand, so hearing him accept it partially was already a good outcome, "What condition?"

"He has to defeat one of my personal disciples in an alchemy battle..."

Cui Shuyin raised her eyebrows, "An alchemy battle? Are you sure, Elder Shen..."

"Yes, is there any issue?"

Cui Shuyin shook her head, "There isn’t any particular reason, but I would suggest that you should change this challenge to only pill refinement..."

An alchemy battle was different from pill refinement. In pill refinement, the one who refined the best quality pill under the given conditions wins, while in an alchemy battle, two alchemists fight like normal cultivators. The only exception was that they were allowed to use the pills they refined to enhance their capabilities to fight their opponent.

"Elder Cui, if what I have heard about him is true, then there is no way any disciple of Alchemy Hall would be able to win against him in the same realm, so an alchemy battle is the only option left for them..." Shen Tianji had a hard time believing what Qin Ruoxuan had told him about Lin Feng, but if it was true, then Lin Feng was the undisputed most talented alchemist here right now.

Cui Shuyin sighed, "As you wish, Elder Shen, when do you want this challenge to happen?"

"How about next week when the Alchemy Pavilion holds its yearly competition?"

"Sure, I will bring Feng’er to the Alchemy Pavilion on the day of the challenge..." Cui Shuyin nodded in acceptance.

"I will take my leave then..." Shen Tianji glanced at Lin Feng before leaving.

Lin Feng, who was silent till now, shook his head and spoke with fake grievance, "So I don’t have any say in it..."

"You don’t like it? It’s a matter of getting spirit herbs at half the price, I don’t think you would deny it. Even so, if you don’t want to, then I can decline Elder Shen right now..."

Lin Feng shook his head, "It’s alright, but tell me something, Elder Cui. Is there a good place where I can create my own spirit field?"

Cui Shuyin was slightly surprised before nodding, "There are many such places in the Sword Pavilion which can be turned into spirit fields. In fact, the mountain you are going to live on is one of the best mountains, with a branch of a spiritual vein passing below it, so if you want you can create one there, but it’s very costly to create a spirit field, and believe me, I am too broke to help you in any way..."

Lin Feng smiled, "It’s alright, I just need your help in drawing the arrays, we can get spirit stones eventually..."

"That is also an issue, everything in this sect is bought through spirit stones. Even Head Elders have to pay if they want something, so to get the array designs for these arrays we have to pay, which we cannot..."

Lin Feng looked at her unblinkingly and finally decided to ask, "Why is the Sword Pavilion so poor?"

"Cough!" Zhi Hui, who was silent till now, coughed slightly and felt a little ashamed to hear it from her newest Junior Brother.

"About that..." Cui Shuyin took a long breath, "It’s all Xiu’er’s fault.

You see, all pavilions get resources from the main sect through a competition which is held every three years.

Their position in this competition decides how many resources they will be allocated. Usually the Sword Pavilion always used to come in third or fourth position, but since last year Xiu’er didn’t take part in it because she got angry with me, we are in sixth position.

The resources given to those below fifth position are meager and aren’t enough to satisfy the needs of a strong pavilion like us.

That’s why I am trying to preserve whatever fortune we have left in case some need arises."

Lin Feng nodded in understanding, "I see..."

"Don’t worry though, the competition is in few months, and now that you are here everything will be fine..."

Cui Shuyin smiled, knowing very well that Xiu’er would definitely participate.

Lin Feng nodded, "Anyway, there is no need for us to purchase the array design, Elder Cui, I have my own, so we can create the spirit field whenever you have time..."

Cui Shuyin got stunned and looked at Lin Feng with an intense gaze, "An array design of a spirit field?"

"That is what I was talking about..." Lin Feng assured her.

"What grade is it?"

After talking with Lin Feng, Cui Shuyin knew that other than his unbelievable claims, he was very trustworthy. It was just her feeling, but she trusted her instincts.
