Dual Cultivation God Returns Chapter 1074: Letting go

Their farewell was brief, as Qian Ying made her way back to Silver Wing City. Wu Long and the Hong twins, however, returned to the Crow King’s Nest, where Lian Zhiqiu awaited their arrival.
The moment they emerged from Wu Long’s shadowy mist into the room, the twins halted, exchanging a look. A spark ignited in their eyes, a flurry of emotions passing between them as they seemed to seek silent confirmation from one another.
Hong Ye then erupted in a series of joyous leaps, arms flung wide, exclaiming “Yay!!!” with each bound. Hong Yue, meanwhile, subtly clenched her fists, yet her eyes betrayed the intense feelings swirling within. Finally, unable to contain herself, a soft chuckle escaped her lips, blossoming into full laughter. Her features relaxed, finally revealing the spectrum of human emotion. Both sisters then removed their masks, tucking them away into their spatial rings.
Lian Zhiqiu’s eyes widened initially at the sisters’ uncharacteristic emotional display, particularly Hong Ye’s. Then, from the corner of her eye, she noticed Wu Long observing the scene with a gentle smile and a genuine spark of joy in his gaze. Sensing this was a significant moment for the twins, Lian Zhiqiu offered a warm smile as well, happy for her Dao Sister and her twin. She watched them quietly, her heart swelling with their infectious, profound joy.
“Hehehe~ we did it!!! Big Sis, we really did it!!!” Hong Ye exclaimed, her jumping subsiding as she turned to her twin, brimming with excitement. She was surprised to see Hong Yue laughing so freely, a laugh she’d never witnessed from her elder sister before, and filled with immense joy at this sight.
It took a moment for the reality to sink in for both of them, but the feeling of accomplishment now surged through the twins.
This was a moment of cathartic release for the two. Not only had they never been permitted to tread a different path, but they had never even conceived of one beyond the bloody existence they had known until this point.
For Hong Yue, whose journey of self-discovery and emotional awakening began with Wu Long’s conversation in the woods, and for Hong Ye, who took that crucial step in their youth, it had been a long, agonizing search for an escape from their brutal world. They had both struggled immensely to reconcile their past actions. At this very moment, however, they finally felt it.
After their escape from that life, after Wu Long had rescued them from that grotto in the Island Kingdom of Lihai… initially, despite their difficulty processing what had transpired, a sense of freedom began to dawn as the shock subsided.
But upon deeper reflection, this sense of freedom lacked substance. They started to realize that their connections to their past had never been truly severed.
Hong Ye was the first to grasp this, while Hong Yue only began to truly understand it after that night in Emerald Falls City.
While they might no longer be bound by the rules of the Assassination Group or the will of the Elders, their core identities remained unchanged.
They still practiced the same assassination techniques, inherited from the same lineage of the Bahshi Assassination Group. Both continued to walk the path of the Assassination Dao, and both still clung to their identity as Prime Demons.
In essence, little had changed. They could renounce it all, discard their techniques, their experiences, and their chosen path, but both harbored a deep-seated fear of letting go – a fear of becoming individuals without purpose. They detested their current state, yet the step towards something different felt terrifyingly immense.
Even as they learned about and contemplated exploring the Theft Dao, and understood its reliance on a similar skill set and its close connection to their current path, it still felt unreal. It remained a mere concept in their minds, disconnected from life, vague and almost surreal…
…until this moment.
Now, they felt it, they experienced it, they had achieved it.
They had utilized those very same Bahshi Assassination Group techniques, yet the application was different. It was precisely this act of employing their ingrained skills for a completely divergent purpose that finally shattered the chains binding them to their past path, thereby crystallizing the profound change within.
Suddenly, it became tangible. The nebulous possibility transformed into lived reality, unfolding a new world for both of them.
As the initial wave of excitement began to recede, the two sisters exchanged glances, their eyes growing moist. Seeing this, Lian Zhiqiu tactfully turned away, feigning an inspection of her formation. Wu Long followed suit, granting the twins a moment of privacy.
However, the sisters seemed oblivious, too immersed in their overwhelming emotions, as they saw the same reflection of feelings in each other’s eyes.
With a powerful leap, they closed the distance between them, their bodies intertwining in a tight embrace. Tears streamed down their faces as a mixture of laughter and weeping erupted, finally releasing the lingering sorrow from the past. They let go of the guilt associated with their old paths, shedding the darkness that had clung to them. This moment was also a celebration of their newfound freedom, their fresh journeys, and their revitalized lives.
Unbridled, tumultuous emotions consumed them, rendering them indifferent to their appearance or how they might be perceived. Their voices soared naturally, unreserved and unrestrained.
Only after some time, when their tears had ceased and their laughter subsided, did they recall their companions' presence. Hong Ye rushed into Wu Long's welcoming arms, her face still glistening with tears. Simultaneously, Hong Yue swiftly reached for a nearby handkerchief, dabbing at her own damp cheeks.
"My Darling!!!" Hong Ye practically collided with Wu Long, who gently caught her and immediately enveloped her in a tender embrace. Their lips met, their kiss carrying a slight saltiness from her tears, yet overflowing with profound joy and affection. Words tumbled out of her mouth in a rush, too numerous to articulate individually, her mind still buzzing with excitement. She poured all her feelings, her deep gratitude, and every fleeting thought into that kiss.
Meanwhile, Lian Zhiqiu turned slightly, a subtle grin playing on her lips. She caught a swift, almost imperceptible glance that Hong Yue cast towards the kissing couple when she believed herself unobserved.
