Ren grapples with regret over his past betrayals, particularly the one against his uncle and aunt, as his throne faces imminent danger. His obsession with power clashes with his remorse, leading him to contemplate a destructive path that would ensure his enemy's demise alongside his own.

The Next Morning,

"Man, why do we have to do this?" One of the soldiers grumbled while carrying the corpse of a Seventh Order cultivator with the help of three other soldiers. Although the corpse was not particularly heavy for cultivators like them, the soldier was clearly unhappy about being assigned such a strange task so early in the morning.

"This is an order from His Majesty. Just shut up and do your work." Another soldier immediately replied while helping him carry the corpse. Unlike his companion, he was not interested in questioning the Emperor’s orders, especially after hearing about Ren’s terrible mood since yesterday’s battle.

"I heard from the others that His Majesty is in an extremely bad mood right now. So if he hears you complaining about his orders, I’m sure you will be joining these corpses very soon." A third soldier warned him in a low voice. Although he was speaking casually, there was a serious expression on his face. After everything that had happened yesterday, nobody wanted to attract the Emperor’s attention for the wrong reasons.

Hearing this, the first soldier immediately became quiet. However, after walking for another few seconds, he could not stop himself from complaining again. "Man, I just don’t understand what the hell His Majesty is planning to do with all these corpses. Shouldn’t we be preparing for the final battle instead of carrying dead bodies around?"

Unfortunately, none of his companions had an answer to that question. They were just ordinary soldiers who had been ordered to carry out a task, and questioning the Emperor’s decisions was not something they could afford to do. Because of this, they simply continued walking toward Ren’s personal tent while carrying the corpse between them.

It was still very early in the morning, and the sky had only just started becoming slightly brighter. Most of the soldiers inside the Emperor Faction’s camp had barely gotten any proper rest after yesterday’s battle. However, before the sun had even risen, Emperor Ren had suddenly issued a rather strange order.

He had ordered his troops to bring him the corpses of all the Sixth Order cultivators and the three Seventh Order cultivators who had fallen during yesterday’s battle. More specifically, he wanted every single one of those corpses brought directly to his personal tent as quickly as possible.

Naturally, this order confused almost everyone who heard it. Nobody understood why the Emperor suddenly wanted the corpses of the fallen high-ranking cultivators, especially when they were only a few hours away from the final battle. However, considering how terrible Ren’s mood had been since yesterday, nobody dared to question him directly.

Even the commanders and nobles who held important positions within the Emperor Faction were confused by this decision. Some of them believed that Ren wanted to personally honor the fallen Sixth and Seventh Order cultivators by arranging proper burials for them.

After all, these cultivators had been extremely important members of the Empire, and it would not be unusual for the Emperor to give them a more respectful burial instead of burying them alongside ordinary soldiers.

However, that explanation did not completely satisfy everyone. Although honoring the fallen cultivators was understandable, the timing of this order was extremely strange. With the final battle approaching, they should have been focusing on preparing their remaining forces, organizing their formations, and making sure that everyone was ready to fight. Instead, the Emperor had suddenly ordered them to collect corpses and bring them to his tent.

What made the situation even more confusing was that the bodies had already been collected after yesterday’s battle. Once the fighting had ended, both factions had sent ordinary humans and First Order cultivators onto the battlefield to clean up the enormous mess left behind by the war.

Their responsibility was to collect the bodies of fallen soldiers and cultivators, recover equipment that could still be used, and remove anything that might create problems if left on the battlefield. Considering how many people had died, this was an extremely difficult task that had continued for several hours.

The Anti-Emperor Faction had already buried its fallen soldiers and cultivators. However, on the Emperor Faction’s side, Ren had ordered his subordinates to delay the burials until further notice. As a result, the bodies of the fallen soldiers and cultivators had been placed inside numerous storage rings.

After all, leaving such an enormous number of corpses exposed would only cause them to start rotting. Before long, a terrible smell would spread across the entire battlefield, making the situation even worse for the surviving soldiers. Because of this, the bodies had been temporarily stored away until the Emperor gave further instructions.

And now, instead of ordering the burial of those bodies, Ren had suddenly demanded that all the corpses belonging to the fallen Sixth Order cultivators and the three Seventh Order cultivators be brought to him.

Because of this, several groups of soldiers were currently moving through the camp, carrying corpses toward the Emperor’s personal tent. Some were carrying the bodies on wooden stretchers, while others were transporting them directly from the storage rings where they had been kept overnight.

The soldiers who had been assigned this task were naturally unhappy about it. After all, nobody enjoyed carrying dead bodies around, especially when those bodies belonged to powerful cultivators who had been alive only yesterday. However, their unhappiness was not the only reason they felt uncomfortable.

For some reason, there was something about this entire situation that made them feel extremely uneasy.

"Hey, don’t you think something is strange about this?" One of the soldiers suddenly asked while looking toward the large tent in the distance. He had been helping transport several corpses since early morning, and the more bodies he saw being brought toward the Emperor’s tent, the more uncomfortable he became.

"What do you mean?" His companion asked without slowing down.

"I mean, why does His Majesty want all these corpses brought to his tent? If he wanted to arrange proper burials for them, wouldn’t he have ordered us to take them somewhere else? Why bring them here?" The soldier asked while lowering his voice. He was careful to make sure that nobody outside their small group could hear him.

His companion remained silent for a moment before replying, "I don’t know. And frankly, I don’t want to know either. Whatever His Majesty is planning to do with these corpses is none of our business. Our job is simply to deliver them and leave."

Although his companion’s words made sense, the soldier could not get rid of the uncomfortable feeling inside his heart. He had been on many battlefields before, and he had seen countless dead bodies throughout his military career. However, for some reason, carrying these particular corpses toward the Emperor’s tent made him feel more nervous than walking across a battlefield filled with dead soldiers.

Perhaps it was because of how unusual the order was, or perhaps it was because of the terrible mood that the Emperor had been in since yesterday. Whatever the reason, he could not shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen.

As they approached the Emperor’s personal tent, the soldiers noticed that several other groups had already arrived before them. The bodies of the fallen Sixth Order cultivators were being placed in a designated area nearby, while the three Seventh Order cultivators’ corpses were being handled separately.

Several Imperial Guards were standing around the area, making sure that nobody approached without permission. Their expressions were extremely serious, and none of them appeared interested in explaining what was happening.

"Place the corpse over there and leave immediately." One of the Imperial Guards ordered as soon as the soldiers approached.

The four soldiers immediately followed his instructions. They carefully lowered the corpse onto the ground before stepping back. However, just as they were preparing to leave, one of them could not stop himself from glancing toward the other corpses that had already been gathered.

Seeing so many powerful cultivators lying lifeless on the ground made him feel strangely uncomfortable. These were individuals who had once possessed enough strength to easily kill ordinary soldiers like him. Some of them had held extremely important positions within the Empire, while others had been respected and feared by countless people.

Yet now, they were nothing more than lifeless bodies waiting for the Emperor to decide what to do with them.

The soldier quickly looked away when he noticed one of the Imperial Guards staring at him. Without saying another word, he turned around and hurried away with his companions.

Only after they had walked a considerable distance from the Emperor’s tent did one of them finally speak.

"Man, I don’t know about you guys, but I have a really bad feeling about this." The soldier said while looking back over his shoulder. Although he could no longer see the corpses from where he was standing, the uncomfortable feeling inside his heart had not disappeared.

His companions exchanged looks before one of them quietly replied, "You’re not the only one. But whatever His Majesty is planning, it’s better for us not to get involved."

Hearing this, the others silently nodded in agreement. None of them knew what Emperor Ren was planning to do with the corpses of the fallen cultivators, but they could all feel that something was wrong.

And as more and more corpses continued arriving outside Ren’s personal tent, that strange and ominous feeling only grew stronger.
