After the evaluation from the trial system, Max's form vanished from the trial area and he materialized within a vast square belonging to the Violet Star Palace.
The surroundings were entirely transformed, characterized by colossal edifices and an ancient essence exuding profound authority. The Violet Star Palace stood in its full magnificence, its very presence capable of diminishing even the most formidable individuals.
Max remained motionless for a short duration before his Dimensional Sovereign Body spontaneously engaged.
His senses extended outward, encompassing the entirety of the vicinity.
He observed figures appearing at various points, each materializing in sudden bursts of light as additional participants concluded their trials and were consequently transported here.
Some appeared bewildered.
Some seemed relieved.
Some looked resistant to accepting their outcomes.
Max watched them silently before retracting his senses.
A subtle, knowing smile graced his lips.
"It appears I am among the select few who finished the weapon master trial ahead of schedule," he murmured to himself.
And so, he commenced his wait.
Hours elapsed slowly, and the disparity between those who had already conquered the Weapon Master Trial and those still grappling within it became starkly apparent.
The portals continued to flicker intermittently, disgorging participants sequentially, with each arrival bearing the burden of exhaustion or vexation. Some stumbled forth with ashen complexions and quivering hands, while others clenched their fists in unspoken fury, evidently displeased with their performance. The initial excitement that had permeated the square had long since dissipated, supplanted by a palpable tension that weighed upon everyone present.
Max maintained his position, his bearing relaxed and his breathing even, as if time's progression held no significance for him. His composed state formed a striking contrast with the agitated throng surrounding him, yet he did not draw undue attention. He simply observed, quietly witnessing the steady increase in the participant count.
After a duration that felt like an eternity to many, two familiar figures finally emerged from their respective portals.
Lucia was the first to step out, her demeanor composed, though her eyes hinted at a degree of fatigue. A faint sheen of perspiration adorned her brow, and her grip on her spear tightened momentarily before she exhaled and relaxed. Shortly thereafter, Isabella materialized, her landing notably more controlled, her posture erect and her aura sharp. Unlike Lucia, she exhibited no overt signs of weariness, yet the slight narrowing of her eyes suggested that the trial had not been entirely without challenge, even for her.
Both women immediately registered Max's presence.
Lucia approached first, her gait steady, her gaze fixed upon him with a blend of curiosity and apprehension. Isabella followed in silence, her presence bestowing a subtle pressure that compelled nearby participants to instinctively yield ground.
Lucia halted before Max, crossing her arms.
"How did it go?" she inquired inquisitively.
"It went well," Max responded with a smile. "I was among the few who finished the trial early and arrived here hours ago."
Lucia's expression shifted to one of solemnity upon hearing his words.
"It took me several hours to complete that trial," she stated, her tone calm yet probing. "And yet you have been standing here since the beginning. Do not presume to tell me you barely scraped by."
Max regarded her, then glanced at Isabella, who was already observing him intensely, her keen eyes searching for any indication of veracity. "Regardless, my score was 73," Lucia announced regarding her own result and then directed the question to Max and Isabella. "What about the two of you?"
"I achieved a score of 78," Isabella replied with a sigh. "I was unable to fully master the sword art, hence my results were not optimal." She exhaled heavily.
"And what about you, Max?" Lucia then questioned him. Isabella, too, turned her gaze toward him at this point.
A wry smile flickered across Max's inner thoughts. What was he supposed to say, that he had scored 120 in the weapon master trial?
"I performed well too," Max stated evasively.
Lucia's eyebrows immediately knitted together.
"Well?" she echoed, her lips forming a thin line. "You are being deliberately vague."
Isabella released a soft exhalation, her gaze hardening.
"The trial system provides a clear assessment," she remarked, a subtle edge to her voice. "Why are you withholding your score from us?"
Max offered a faint smile, one that revealed nothing of his thoughts.
"Haha, why are you two so fixated on my score?" he inquired, shrugging calmly. "You will discover my rank once the standings are revealed."
Lucia scrutinized him for a few more moments, her suspicion intensifying rather than diminishing.
"You are undoubtedly concealing something," she declared, her eyes narrowing.
Max neither confirmed nor denied her assertion. His silence persisted just long enough to render the answer implicitly evident.
Isabella's eyes narrowed, a fleeting expression of annoyance crossing her features.
"You finished early," she stated. "That fact alone indicates your result is far from ordinary. Yet, you remain silent on the matter. It suggests either you surpassed expectations significantly, or something unusual transpired within."
Max offered a slight shrug, his expression remaining impassive.
"Perhaps a combination of both," he replied.
Lucia let out a soft sigh, her frustration evident.
"You truly are an irritating fellow at times," she murmured, her gaze still fixed on him, as if trying to discern his hidden thoughts.
Before either of them could probe further, a palpable shift in the atmosphere commanded everyone's attention.
A formidable aura descended upon the square.
Elder Cael materialized in the sky overhead, his imposing figure casting a shadow as his gaze swept across the assembled participants. His arrival instantly quelled the crowd's murmurs, ushering in a heavy, expectant silence.
Without delay, Elder Cael raised a hand, pointing towards the colossal screen suspended high above the square.
"The Weapon Master Trial has now concluded," he announced, his voice resonating clearly throughout the area. "All participants have undergone evaluation by the trial system."
A subtle luminescence began to emanate from the screen.
"The rankings for every participant will now be revealed," he elaborated. "The top ten will be bestowed rewards from the Violet Star Palace. The top three shall receive even greater remuneration. And the one who achieves the pinnacle will be granted a unique, personally prepared reward."
As his final words faded, the screen flickered to life.
Names began to populate the display at a rapid pace, forming an extensive list that scrolled downward as more individuals were accounted for.
A stir rippled through the crowd.
T The spectators' eyes darted upwards, scanning the emerging rankings with keen interest. Voices were raised as individuals sought their names, some exuding relief upon finding themselves in a respectable position, while others exhibited visible tension as they realized the extent of their lagging performance.
Lucia's gaze intensified as she navigated the list, her concentration absolute. Isabella's eyes moved with even greater celerity, her composure unwavering yet her focus piercing as she sought her own standing.
The ambient noise swelled with each passing moment.
Then, abruptly, the din ceased.
