"Miss, there is no need to waste words on a scum like him," the elder declared calmly, his tone infused with absolute command. "He's fully embraced the devil transformation's dark corruption. Humans have forever sold their souls to devils for this kind of power, becoming betrayers of mankind. Trash like that gets executed immediately."
"But how could he have reached a devil anyway?" the young lady wondered, her eyebrows furrowing as bewilderment flickered in her gaze. "Word is, the Devil Realm's devils got exterminated ages ago by the Primordials and elite factions, like our Sword God Palace."
"Miss, I can't confirm that for sure," the elder answered, shaking his head with a serene yet reflective look. "But this much is clear: such a change only happens when a human voluntarily trades their soul to a devil for strength. If we seize him and question him, we might find the devil he made a pact with."
"Then seize him," the young lady ordered sharply, her voice edged with icy resolve.
Max caught every single word. They hadn't bothered hiding their talk, letting it boom across the battlefield for all to hear.
"Damn it," Max growled, his forehead creasing deeply. The instant he recognized their Sword God Palace ties, a crushing burden hit his chest. He understood their fearsome strength in the Divine Realm all too well, and now his shot at slaying the young elf master had plummeted.
While Max mulled his options, a burst of deadly threat exploded from his right flank. His Dimensional Sovereign Body picked up the elder charging at him with horrifying swiftness, sword thrust straight for his throat.
Max's face grew icy. A wild debate raged in his eyes over unleashing his full arsenal for protection, but he stamped it down fast. Exposing too much could tie him to Orion's devil if his powers matched up obviously.
In that flash, Max summoned his wings and coiled them tight around his frame as a shield.
Bang!
The blade smashed into the wings with brutal might, flinging Max like shattered debris. His form ripped through the sky, hurled beyond the hexagonal barrier's edge, slamming way off into the distance.
Right as Max skidded to a stop far away, his shape shimmered and turned into a crimson bolt, blasting back to the battlefield at insane velocity. His comeback hit so sudden and swift that everyone froze, never dreaming he'd bounce back from that crushing blow.
That split-second daze left one elven guard wide open. Just like earlier, Max closed in instantly and rammed his hand through the elf's torso, shredding the heart without mercy.
"HOW DARE YOU!" the elder elf thundered in rage as ten gleaming golden blades materialized around him, each pulsing with deadly force before streaking at Max like bolts of godly wrath.
Max ignored the hurtling blades completely. His eyes stayed fixed on the young master as he barreled ahead relentlessly, purpose burning bright. The trio of elves shielding the young master went rigid, bracing to stop him.
But before Max drew near, a devastating punch erupted from thin air and hammered him with crushing power.
Bang!
His body got launched again, soaring past the hexagonal barrier to crash hard in the far distance.
The injury hit much harder this time. The strike blindsided him without warning—he hadn't detected it at all—and with no guard up, the full force ravaged him badly.
Wiping blood from his mouth's edge, Max looked toward the strike's origin and spotted a new group entering the fray.
"He survived my strike?" the attacker blurted in shock, voice thick with amazement. Those with him stared in stunned disbelief too.
Max's assailant was a sturdy middle-aged warrior radiating raw power and command. They hailed from the War God Palace, rushing to Orion after detecting the massive uproar here.
"Luke, do not underestimate this creature," the elder from the Sword God Palace warned in a calm, steady voice. "He is a human who has undergone a devil transformation, and his strength rivals that of warriors at the peak of the Law Manifestation Realm."
"No need to remind me, Old Man Ray," Luke shot back, his eyes locked firmly on Max with a piercing, hostile stare. "I can tell at a glance that this is a devil through and through."
Max's eyes scanned the recent arrivals from the War God Palace, then turned to the elder of the Sword God Palace. In that instant, a grim understanding hit him hard, revealing the true desperation of his position.
A sour notion rose in his thoughts as he released a soft sigh. 'Am I really not destined to reclaim my bloodline today?'
His inner fury still raged hot, and the deep grudge against the elves for ruining him and his kin showed no sign of fading, but despite the storm of those feelings, the harsh truth stood plain before him.
At his present power level, challenging them remained way beyond his reach. Even now, so near to his aim, with a precious chance to slay the young elf and seize the bloodline source, the gap between them loomed impossibly vast.
'Did all this effort amount to nothing?' The idea tormented him, stirring a fierce reluctance to withdraw without gains. Slaying two Law Manifestation Realm elves was no trivial achievement, yet he knew it barely scratched their mighty forces.
"Let's seize him and pry out which devil he contracted with, then hunt down and destroy that devil too," Old Man Ray declared, facing Luke with a composed yet resolute tone.
"If that's your call," Luke responded, and with his words, brilliant light swirled around his figure. Soon, a scorching golden sun erupted behind him, bathing the area in a crushing wave of might.
Witnessing this, Max snapped to full vigilance, retreat flashing through his mind as he grasped that lingering here meant certain doom.
BOOM!
Yet right then, the rift in the hexagonal barrier exploded wide, unleashing a blue light pillar skyward with fearsome might.
WHOOM!
Instantly, the azure glow surged out, swallowing the whole planet Orion and every soul upon it.
As the glow dimmed, Max stood amid barren wastes. He scanned instinctively, spotting the ground strewn with endless bodies in a eerie, hushed tableau. The folks from Sword God Palace, War God Palace, and everyone else had disappeared entirely, abandoning him solitary in this alien realm.
"What just happened?" Max whispered in bewilderment while his form reversed, the devil transformation dissolving back to normal. Gradually, he took off his mask, stowed it away, his face growing grave as he puzzled over the abrupt shift.
