"Ouch!"
"Mr. Book, you’re here. Where’s big brother? Is he still resting? You need to wake him up quickly, it seems like the funeral is about to start over there..."
Fisher rubbed his forehead and turned his head towards the outside of the wooden house. The sky was just barely lightening, but the scheduled time for the funeral was fast approaching. He quickly stood up and said to Emhardt,
"Tell her, we’re leaving right now."
"Ah, what a hassle..."
Emhardt conveyed Fisher’s words, and Alicia nodded, then began to bustle around the room, such as going to the wardrobe to find a change of clothes. Her movements were swift, indicating she wasn’t someone who needed taking care of daily. After confirming everything was in order, Fisher left the room, allowing Alicia some privacy.
In the distance, even before the sky had fully brightened, Chittel City’s noise had already begun, clearly from the people who had arrived last night and were now flocking to the funeral venue.
Though Vileli herself didn’t like her, as the adopted granddaughter of Helson in name, the servants still had the duty to find her, to bring her to attend the funeral and see Helson one last time. As for what happened afterward, it wasn’t their concern.
While Fisher was waiting outside, the voices of servants calling came from the morning forest not far away,
"Miss Alicia, are you in the house?"
"Everyone is waiting for you, if you can hear..."
"Creak."
The door behind opened, revealing Alicia, now wearing a proper black dress. Although her hair ornament was a bit messy, she seemed familiar enough to change her clothes by herself but still unable to tie a suitable hairdo.
Her expression remained indifferent but nonetheless slightly awkward, perhaps due to the upcoming funeral or the servants searching for her, leaving her at a loss.
Maybe after Helson’s death, the granddaughter he had always cared for only hoped that after meeting Fisher, she could be consumed by her. But now that Fisher didn’t do so, her mind was left blank.
"Big...big brother, what... what should I do?"
Unable to see Fisher, she asked Emhardt, who was floating mid-air.
Fisher glanced at Emhardt, contemplated for a moment, then said to him,
"Emhardt, stay by Alicia’s side for a while. I’ll be following alongside you. Try not to draw too much attention until the funeral is over."
"Alright... Little Guy, let’s go, he’ll be following us."
"Mm..."
Alicia pursed her lips, slowly moving her steps towards where the servants were calling. Just as she was about to respond that "she was here," she suddenly felt a slight change in the hair ornament on her head.
She touched her hair in a daze, and sure enough, the clumsy hairstyle she had tied was now neat. Fisher, who had given a hidden blessing from a distance, just pulled back his hand, thinking he’d have to wait a while for her to notice, and the next moment, her voice sounded,
"Thank you, big brother."
"...You’re welcome."
Fisher spoke up, although Emhardt was yawning and didn’t have time to relay this, and whether she heard or not was unknown. Afterward, she started walking towards the source of the distant voices.
"Ah, miss, have you changed your clothes already?"
"It’s about to start over there. We forgot to tell you yesterday to stay in the Magic Tower and not come back..."
"Sorry for the trouble."
The two servants who came to find Alicia didn’t say much after they found her; they hurriedly led her towards the Magic Tower. It wasn’t actually far from here, as the Magic Tower was already near the outskirts of Chittel City.
When Fisher followed Alicia out of the dense forest, he immediately saw the magic flags fluttering everywhere in the morning light, stretching from the ground straight up into the sky. Cardinals flying all around were in charge of surveillance, and outside the church venue, Chittel City’s guards were maintaining order.
"Please place the sacrifices in an orderly manner, do not crowd!"
"Buzz buzz buzz!"
The orchestra’s flutes, horns, and tubas had begun tuning. The large golden insignia and Helson’s photograph from his lifetime soon entered Fisher’s line of sight. Standing beside the Magic Tower and not having a chance to take a closer look, the whispered conversations of servants suddenly pulled his attention back nearby,
"The cursed Alicia is back..."
"Miss Vileli didn’t want to see her anymore, so why call her back? Did the master decide this?"
"After all, she is Lord Helson’s adopted child. It’s his funeral; she should attend, right?"
"Soon, Miss Vileli will be the only one here. Everything should be centered around her."
Fisher looked around. Helson actually didn’t need servants in the past; this was his old home, and he hadn’t been back for a long time, so he needed them even less. These servants were hired after Miss Vileli started her own family. Theoretically, when Helson returned after retirement, he also relied on his granddaughter’s care. Vileli is now the true master here.
