Demi-human Girls Completion Manual Chapter 1523 - 78: The Origins of Elliog
Previously on Demi-human Girls Completion Manual...
On the second floor of Helair’s residence, at the end of the library lined with bookshelves, Fisher leaned back into a soft leather chair where perhaps Helair once sat. His back rested against the cushion behind him, his head tilted slightly upward, gazing at the somewhat dark ceiling due to the lack of light from the first floor.
On the desk once used by Helair for reading, now empty except for an eternal candle, the Soul Completion Manual lay open, reaching the last part, thick in the front and thin at the back, indicating that he was about to finish reading all the content left by Caleb Wuz.
At this moment, however, the words on the pages seemed to have grown legs and refused to enter his eyes, or maybe he was not reading at all, but rather staring at the pages thinking about other things...
Yes, he was scrutinizing his relationship with Helair.
Perhaps he knew in his heart that he did have feelings for Helair, but knowing so little about her, unlike with other Ladies where he knew them inside out, brought doubt and unease.
Even for Renie, the reincarnation of the Mother Goddess with Infinite Authority, Fisher roughly understood her situation, knew her personality, because they had been together for a long time and had confided in each other before.
Yet, solely Helair, despite going through so much, Fisher still could not grasp her, as if she was very close yet forever untouchable.
He did not know why she was fond of him, yet what he saw here was all her indistinguishable longing, real or fake.
This contradiction left Fisher struggling, ultimately erupting due to previous deceptions discovered.
"Step... Step... Step..."
At this moment, footsteps resounded from the stairs where Fisher had come from, sounding abrupt in this silent place, prompting Fisher to immediately open his eyes and look towards the end of the library, the black mud of the soul extending from his hand gradually retracting into his body.
He gazed at the stairs and soon saw Elliog walking up from below. She quickly surveyed the bookshelves hidden in the darkness before focusing her gaze on Fisher, who sat beneath the portrait of Paimon from behind.
She pursed her lips, seemingly about to say something immediately, but eventually turned it into a yawn, neither commenting on the decoration of Helair’s second floor nor mentioning the name "Paimon," instead, she asked Fisher,
"What are you doing here, in this darkness..."
Fisher blinked, rubbed his temples, and hurriedly closed the Soul Completion Manual. Sitting up, he said to Elliog,
"Just thinking about some things."
In the darkness, Elliog’s eyes, bright like fiery snakes, slightly shifted. She then glanced at the back of Helair’s portrait behind him and asked,
"Thinking about Paimon’s matters?"
"No such thing..."
Fisher instinctively blurted out. The innate intuition of a playboy, of course, would prevent him from mentioning another woman in front of a woman, but after speaking, he belatedly realized it was a lie, causing a change in his facial expression...
Indeed, he had just been thinking about Helair.
Elliog, with her arms crossed, simply looked at Fisher silently. Seeing her gaze, Fisher realized that his words had been seen through and could only smile helplessly,
"...I was indeed considering her matters."
"What else to consider, didn’t her words left downstairs suit your taste? Although I admit I have some bias against her due to her demonic nature, even I must acknowledge that everything she did could very well be out of genuine intent..."
Elliog moved a bit closer, her bare feet trod lightly on the carpet of Helair’s second floor, making no sound like a cat. She thus arrived in front of the desk where Fisher sat, "But it seems you are still confused and conflicted."
"...I don’t know, but it probably doesn’t count as confusion and conflict."
"Not knowing is confusion and conflict, Fisher."
Fisher opened his mouth, then stopped arguing, simply leaning back against the soft chair again. After a moment of silence, he confessed to Elliog,
"...I’m just a bit bewildered."
"Bewildered about what?"
Elliog, with no sense of decorum, leapt onto Helair’s desk effortlessly. Since besides a candle there was nothing else there.
By the dim candlelight, Fisher could easily see the brighter fireball on her tail on the desk, which wavered in the darkness, likely because her tail was at it.
And Fisher remained honest with Elliog, he thought for a moment, then said,
"Whether it was you or Emhardt before, both said Helair paid special attention to me because she had a specific purpose, which was why she placed that seal on me. Although I verbally denied it before, in my heart, I really couldn’t find a suitable reason to explain her special attention and feelings for me. It feels like those feelings came out of nowhere yet indeed have some reliance I am unaware of...
"And it’s the same for you. When I first met you, not even a few days had passed and my rank was only slightly higher than that of ordinary humans. I really couldn’t think of a reason that would cause you, a Demon God General with an Eighteenth Rank, to give your first-ever time to me...
