Fisher defends his past actions to Yaril, admitting he wasn't perfect and acknowledging her concerns for Rafael. Yaril questions his insatiable desire for more women, while Fisher reveals he has reformed and that pursuing perfection with Rafael would have meant abandoning other women, including his first love, Queen Elizabeth. This revelation shocks Yaril, who realizes the dangerous entanglement her daughter's husband is involved in.

Yaril didn’t speak again, and the candlelight behind her also quieted down, reluctant to emit a bright glow and warmth.

After a long, long time, she softly asked Fisher,

"As a mother, am I asking for too much, Fisher?"

Fisher looked at Yaril, shook his head, and said,

"...I’m the one asking for too much, Aunt Yaril..."

Yaril’s somewhat dim eyes lifted slightly, looking at him as he continued,

"I’ve tasted too many sweet blessings and mistakenly thought they were all deserved, not knowing they all have a price, and it is a very high price. Though I’ve been foolish to this extent, at least my adoptive mother left me two precious gifts before she passed away: morality and responsibility.

"So I don’t want to avoid these problems. I cannot let these costs fall on Rafael and the others. I must do everything I can to ensure their safety and happiness...

"Aunt Yaril, I am telling you this not to evoke your guilt or to excuse my crimes. I’m doing this entirely for Rafael. She holds expectations; even after knowing the truth, she still brought me to meet you, hoping for your blessing and acknowledgment, and I cannot let her down anymore. As her mother, you have the right to know everything and to decide whether to accept me...

"I’m saying this as a guarantee that my feelings for Rafael and my ability will not disappoint her. Can you understand this, Aunt Yaril?"

Yaril gazed at Fisher, as if trying to unearth the deception from this seemingly inhuman creature, but looking into his black eyes, she could only sense the assurance of a soul.

Perhaps it is this soul that fascinates Rafael?

Yaril of course knew that a Dragon-man species who’s already tail-matched views their partner as perfect—or perhaps, on the contrary, she saw those imperfections, but still...

Her claws slowly released the teacup in her hand, lowering her eyes as she spoke,

"Last night, Rafael didn’t send anyone over but personally came from her busy schedule to the Flower Garden... She told me she was bringing her tail-matching partner to see me today..."

"..."

Facing Fisher’s silent gaze, Yaril closed her eyes and continued,

"She said her long-awaited partner, like her, hadn’t forgotten her, that her partner had come a long way for her, rushing back to the stormy Dragon Court to reunite with her...

"I hadn’t met you before, but through Kexier’s words, I already knew about you and Moli, which made me suspicious of you. But... her facade of pretending that nothing happened, her urgent desire to meet me in her busy schedule... She said she hoped to receive my blessing and have Dragon Court’s traditions bless her relationship with you...

"I am not involved in many things concerning Dragon Court, but I am still well aware of our situation. Honestly speaking, ’living on the edge’ would be putting it mildly in times of war. She has to handle such complex matters and confront formidable enemies I have never experienced...

"Just two and a half years ago, when she lost a great battle in the north, covered in wounds and blood, Moli carried her back... Seeing her in that state really broke my heart and made me deeply saddened... All these years, I’ve been trying not to trouble her, not wanting her to see my fear that she might end up like her brother..."

Yaril was on the verge of tears, but at this moment, with her head tilting slightly due to her emotions, Fisher suddenly realized that when he and Rafael walked in earlier, Yaril had been standing in front of a row of scales on newly added candles.

They were eleven candles, representing Rafael’s deceased father and her ten brothers.

"She’s so afraid of owing you for your long journey, worried that her failures in Dragon Court’s battles might bring you criticism, worried that she isn’t worthy of you, and worried I wouldn’t acknowledge you. That’s why she personally came late at night, cautiously yet excitedly, even hiding what happened with Moli yesterday...

"And I... agreed. Last night, I smiled and told her to bring you to meet me. As a mother, I would acknowledge your existence and, one day, attend your wedding and name your children...

"I am already old, other than worrying for children and not wanting to disappoint them, I can actually do nothing else. But Rafael... She has given everything she can to you as her tail-matching partner. You, as a human, I don’t expect you to completely understand her fiery passion... I only hope, or rather, I plead... I plead with you not to let her down or make her sad.

"One day, if her war fails and her Dragon Court falls, leaving her with nothing once again... Fisher, I beg you not to forget what she did for you last night, not to despise or look down on her. Take her safely away from here, anywhere, as long as it’s a place where she won’t be bullied by someone you know who is a hundred or thousand times stronger than her...

"This is the price of gaining my consent. Can you do it, Fisher?"

When Yaril opened her eyes again, all that was left in them was entreaty.

As Rafael’s mother, how could she not be fully aware of the current situation? She simply pretended not to know, not to care, to avoid troubling Rafael and distracting her.

For this reason, she even chose to satisfy Rafael’s request, which needed consideration in her eyes, so when Fisher and Rafael visited, she seemed so kind, as if she had already accepted Fisher.

But after Rafael left, she was still worried, concerned about Rafael’s future, and hence wanted to inquire about the matter between Fisher and Moli.

She was only helpless knowing she couldn’t do more, upset she couldn’t assist her daughter, and could only rely on words, hoping for a promise from Fisher, whose Rank is far higher than hers.

These are feelings not restrained by Rank and power, feelings that can’t be found even after reading all the Completion Manuals.

This much, perhaps, Fisher only realized at this moment.

He looked seriously at Yaril, who was awaiting his answer, bowed his head slightly, and assured her,

"I promise, Aunt Yaril."

"..."

Yaril gazed deeply at Fisher before her, without uttering other words.

Until the next moment, a loud sound boomed from outside the Flower Garden, seemingly due to something landing outside the Gate.

Then came the sound of urgent running footsteps through the sea of flowers outside the Ancestral Court.

"Thud, thud, thud!"

Yaril was slightly taken aback, then stood up, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes, picking up the teacup Fisher and she had drunk from, turning around to replenish the tea not far away, leaving Fisher sitting there with only a slightly aged yet strong back.

The steps outside grew closer, and Fisher adjusted his expression, then smiled and turned to see Rafael breathlessly hurrying back through a field of flowers.

"Mother, Fisher..."

"Rafael, why are you back so soon?"

Using one hand to support the door frame, she was worried that something might have displeased her mother and caused her to have opinions about Fisher, thus she hurried back quickly.

At this moment, the room’s atmosphere remained warm, like blossoming spring.

Fisher sat relaxed and naturally in his seat, looking at her.

Meanwhile, her mother turned, seemingly pouring tea, and after hearing Rafael’s returning sound, she turned her head with a surprised smile and asked,

"It seems nothing major happened; you’re back already."

"Ah... It’s nothing major, just some minor issues, so they were resolved quickly."

"I see... You came back just in time; I was discussing with Fisher whether the firstborn would be a boy or a girl, truly a dilemma. Right, Fisher?"

"...It is indeed so."

Yaril smiled at Rafael and continued,

"What do you think, Rafael?"

"Huh?! Boy... Boy... Girl... Wait, what? A child?!"

"Oh my, do you think it would be a boy? That’s just like me. If Rafael has a boy, he’ll surely be strong and lively."

"Mother!"
