“Are they having internal conflict?” Shizuku turned her head in surprise and looked at Kurapika beside her.
“A fortress is indeed easiest to breach from the inside. Someone so strong that even the Leader could do nothing actually fell by a companion’s hand!” Pakunoda glanced at Qin Lun who had collapsed unconscious, crossed her arms, and looked coldly at the young man, saying indifferently, “Wasn’t he your companion? Why did you do this?”
“Melody, are you still nearby?” Kurapika ignored Pakunoda’s question, took out his phone, and called the Music Hunter.
“Kurapika? Are you okay? I’m at the first meeting point Qin Lun mentioned!” Melody’s surprised voice came through the phone. “Did you escape?”
“Yes, and we captured two Troupe members!” Kurapika nodded and replied softly.
“Hey, Paku wasn’t caught by you!” Seeing Qin Lun fall, Shizuku regained her dull expression. Hearing the young man say he had captured both of them, she immediately seemed dissatisfied.“Melody, we’re very close to you, at location five. Bring the car over first!” Kurapika glanced at Shizuku, closed his phone, then leaned down and carried Qin Lun over his shoulder. He turned to Pakunoda and Shizuku and said calmly, “Qin Lun was never my companion. He was only helping me deal with the Troupe.”
“According to our information, he should be a member of the Shadow Beasts, right?” Pakunoda frowned slightly and spoke with some disbelief. “How did he end up helping you deal with us?”
“The Mafia’s direct Shadow Beasts were already completely wiped out. The Shadow Beasts headquarters he belonged to canceled his guard mission after the Auction was first attacked.” Kurapika hesitated briefly, then spoke frankly. “After that, he had already given up. It was only to help me deal with the Troupe that he took the lead in the action again.”
“So, are you burning the bridge after crossing the river?” Shizuku blinked her big eyes, looking at Kurapika with a hint of sarcasm. Even Pakunoda across from them showed a flash of surprise and disdain in her eyes.
In the eyes of the two beautiful Troupe women, Qin Lun was indeed a deadly enemy, but he had also earned the Troupe’s respect. This was a common view among strong Nen Ability users in the Hunter World. Apart from hatred over their companions’ deaths, Qin Lun’s cunning, shameless, and ruthless methods did not provoke much disgust from the Troupe.
In the eyes of the Troupe members, this was a very normal approach. If not for the blood debt of Uvogin and Shalnark between both sides, when Qin Lun pretended to suggest joining the Troupe to Pakunoda, the two probably would not have objected.
The sarcasm and disdain in Shizuku’s words made Kurapika’s expression darken, but the young man soon raised his head, his expression firm as he said, “You attacked the Auction, causing many innocent people to die. If Qin Lun joined you, this war would only become more brutal. Enough people have died. I want to end all of this completely!”
“Did you kill Uvogin?” Pakunoda asked lightly.
“I captured him. Qin Lun was the one who did it!” Kurapika seemed to have made some kind of decision and no longer helped Qin Lun hide it. After all, because of Shalnark, the Troupe and Qin Lun were already mortal enemies; adding Uvogin didn’t matter much.
“Hand him over to us, and all of this will end here. I promise the other Troupe members won’t trouble you again!” Pakunoda looked seriously at Kurapika and said.
“Hmph, you people are just as arrogant as Qin Lun said. Do you think I knocked him out because I’m afraid of the Troupe?” Kurapika sneered. “Do you know why he helped me, a stranger?”
“Why?” Pakunoda followed closely behind the young man and asked in surprise.
“Because he saw my ability as a shearing tool! He once said that if he had enough time, he would raise you like sheep. When your wool grew back, he would come to harvest a batch, then wait for you to replenish your members!”
Kurapika’s tone was extremely serious, and he didn’t turn his head as he said, “To him, hunting the Troupe is just an exciting game. He hoped it could continue forever! You should have seen the look in his eyes then. That was definitely not a joke!”
Pakunoda and Shizuku looked at each other in shock, each feeling a chill in their hearts. Judging by Qin Lun’s performance over the past few days, if this continued, even just a few more successes, the old members of the Phantom Troupe would likely be replaced.
Thinking of this, Shizuku stared blankly at Qin Lun on the young man’s shoulder, a cold glint appearing deep in her eyes. Pakunoda, however, furrowed her delicate eyebrows, her gaze flickering as she fell into thought.
As the three fell silent, a black car drove up from the end of the road. Melody had finally arrived!
…
“Kurapika, are you really going to leave Qin Lun alone here?” Watching the young man carry Qin Lun into an empty house by the roadside, Melody finally couldn’t help asking.
“He said there was something strange about those two women. Leaving him here is the safest!” Kurapika placed Qin Lun on the sofa, his right hand still holding the silver chain. “Melody, you should leave too. I can handle what comes next by myself!”
“Kurapika, are you okay? At least tell me what you plan to do?” Melody looked at the young man with concern and asked softly.
“Qin Lun once said that the best way to destroy the Phantom Troupe is to make them disappear physically!” Kurapika said expressionlessly. “I think he was right. However, Qin Lun also said he didn’t have enough time and could only help me eliminate three to six Troupe members at most. I think he was making excuses. He didn’t want the game to end so quickly!”
“Kurapika, you’ve become much colder. Is it because of Qin Lun’s influence?” Melody looked at the stern-faced young man and couldn’t help sighing.
“No, I’m still the same me, just a bit more mature!” Kurapika showed a slight smile. “I know Qin Lun had bad intentions. If we followed his methods, it might lead to a big war later, sacrificing many more innocent people. He could be indifferent, but I can’t. It has to end completely this time!”
“But without Qin Lun’s help, we can’t deal with the strong members of the Troupe!” Melody frowned and spoke somewhat uncertainly. “Can’t we discuss it with him?”
“There’s no need. He’s already done more than enough. The rest is up to us.” Kurapika glanced at the two beautiful Troupe women outside the window and said quietly, “Physically eliminating them would indeed solve the problem once and for all. But after interacting with the Troupe a few times, I think there’s another method. Though not as thorough, it can still defeat them to some extent!”
…
“Shizuku, how do you feel? Can’t you break the chain by yourself?” Taking advantage of Kurapika and Melody entering the house, Pakunoda quietly asked her companion. Since Qin Lun trusted Kurapika’s chain so much, she didn’t risk touching it.
“This chain is strange. My Nen seems to be forcibly put into a ‘Zetsu’ state. Strength alone won’t break it!” Shizuku shook her head lightly and said expressionlessly.
“Paku, I think you shouldn’t worry about me anymore. When the Leader decided to counterattack, didn’t we all prepare ourselves? After the Chain User leaves, you should circle back and kill that Qin Lun. We can’t let this person live any longer, or more Troupe members will die by his hand!”
“That might not be necessary!” Pakunoda’s eyes flickered slightly as she secretly made a decision in her heart.
…
A few minutes after Kurapika and the others left, Qin Lun flipped over and sat up on the sofa. His eyes flashed with sharp light when he opened them; there was no trace of the previous grogginess.
An Apostle’s Law Body is fundamentally different from that of an ordinary person. They have strong resistance to abnormal states like dizziness and unconsciousness. It’s not that they can’t fall unconscious, but usually, the reasons an Apostle falls unconscious, aside from additional effects of skill laws, are mostly due to depleted Stamina/Energy Points or severe damage to the Soul and spirit.
When the young man attacked Qin Lun, he was only dizzy for a few seconds before waking up immediately. After that, he had been pretending the whole time.
“You’ve been here a while, why not come in!” Qin Lun suddenly felt something and spoke impatiently toward the window.
“Haha, I just happened to see you when you got knocked out!” Rand jumped into the room through the window, smiling as he held up two fingers. “This is the second time!”
Qin Lun rolled his eyes. Of course he knew the first time Firecracker referred to was when Jie and Killua tricked him.
“So, do you feel like you’re trapped by your own scheme?” Rand laughed loudly and asked.
“No, a young eagle must always be set free, or how could it soar in the blue sky? I’m really looking forward to his next performance!” Qin Lun waved his hand and smiled. “However, that he thought of this method now shows some progress!”
“Oh, you know what he’ll do?” Rand asked with great interest. He didn’t know Kurapika well, but seeing Qin Lun so enthusiastic made him curious.
“Haha, I always emphasized physically eliminating the enemy to him, but given that young man’s kind nature, he couldn’t accept it in such a short time. So he probably thought of this current method!” Qin Lun nodded thoughtfully. “The method corresponding to physical elimination is naturally to destroy the spirit.”
“But from the information you told me, it seems these Phantom Troupe members might not have spiritual beliefs!” Rand asked somewhat surprised.
“As individuals, they don’t!” Qin Lun said with a light laugh. “However, as part of the Phantom Troupe, they do have a spiritual leader.”
“That Kuroro?”
“Yeah, I told Kurapika that the Troupe’s biggest weakness is the bond between companions. I think he’ll make full use of that. If Kuroro is willing to sacrifice himself for the Troupe members, then the Troupe loses its spiritual leader. If Kuroro is unwilling, the other members will lose respect for him.”
A sharp light flashed in Qin Lun’s eyes. “As long as Kurapika tightly holds the hostages in hand, achieving this goal isn’t difficult. Either result, the Phantom Troupe will become disorganized and much less harmful than before. That would also achieve his initial goal.”
