Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics Chapter 6059 - 5075: Fate of the Fighter (21)

~9 minute read · 2,170 words

Back at the hotel, Aisha was the first to rush up. Selina patted her head and asked, "Why didn’t you go play with Aunt Wanda today?"

"She’s not here," Aisha said, "No idea where she’s gone. But I’ve made a few new friends, so you don’t have to worry about me. There’s not much that’s more dangerous in this universe than me."

Selina couldn’t help but pinch her cheeks, "Even if it’s not much, it still exists. Don’t run around, and don’t leave Earth, alright?"

Aisha nodded vigorously, and Selina picked her up. Although she had grown a bit, she was still a little girl. Selina helped straighten her hair and took her to eat.

After finishing the meal, Selina returned to the room and found that Bruce hadn’t come back yet. She frowned slightly and said, "Where did your dad go?"

"Don’t know," Aisha also seemed confused, "He seems to have something to do, he didn’t come home last night. I was going to ask you why you suddenly got busy."

"Forget it, he might have something to do," Selina patted Aisha’s head and said, "I still have to go out tonight. Staying in the hotel room alone, I’m not too comfortable with that, shall I send you to Professor Shearer?"

Aisha nodded and said, "Okay. But you have to come pick me up in the morning, I heard that Pikachu and the others are arriving tomorrow morning, I want to go play with them."

"Don’t worry," Selina smiled and said, "Tomorrow I’ll take you to the airport to meet them, ensuring you’ll see them as soon as they arrive."

Selina hugged Aisha and knocked on Shiller’s door. Shiller opened the door and was momentarily stunned seeing her, then said, "What’s up?"

"I might need you to look after Aisha tonight," Selina said, "Bruce and I both have things to do."

"What about Wanda?"

"She also has things to do."

"Alright." Shiller nodded and let Aisha in. As soon as Selina left, Aisha started babbling, "I don’t know how they suddenly got so busy, no one is playing with me. Professor, what do you think they’re busy with?"

"Probably busy with the wedding," Shiller said, "The style of the bridal gown has just been decided, and now they’re measuring sizes for the guests."

"Guests have to be measured too?" Aisha questioned, "Can’t they wear their own clothes?"

Shiller shook his head, saying, "They’re filming a promotional video. They invited us to promote the Fusion Universe, so naturally, everyone needs to be dressed up and then appear on camera."

"Ah, I hate trying on clothes." Aisha threw herself onto the couch, "But I guess the flower boy costume will take a long time too. I originally just wanted to shine at the wedding, who knew there’d be so much to do."

Shiller didn’t reply, just sat on the sofa, picked up the book beside him, and said, "Do you have any plans for tomorrow? Or are you coming with me to the tailor shop?"

"I definitely won’t go," Aisha said, "Pikachu and the others are coming tomorrow. Wait, will they also need to go to the tailor shop?"

"Of course, mice and raccoons also need to wear clothes." Shiller said, "If you really feel bored, you can choose not to go."

"But Selina won’t let me go out to play alone," Aisha said somewhat dejectedly, "There’s nothing to play with when there’s no company."

"The bride and groom’s outfits are already done. I’ll hand you to them, let them take you to play." Shiller said, "They’ll really like you."

"Really?" Aisha perked up, "I also want to see the bride’s wedding dress, what style did they choose? How long is the train?"

"You can ask them yourself tomorrow." Shiller glanced at the sky outside, "Are you going to the guest room to sleep yourself, or should I tell you a bedtime story?"

"Tell me a story," Aisha said, "I want to hear that story about the killer devil in the reeds, you were just talking about the fifth victim — what happened to him?"

Shiller took Aisha to the guest room in the suite, where, although unoccupied, someone tidied up each day. Shiller lulled Aisha to sleep, and shortly after, someone knocked on the door.

After opening the door, Peter walked in with food and beer, complaining a bit, "I can’t believe he would use the Spider Totem to transmit power, but fail to activate it and actually bite the guy..."

Shiller couldn’t help but laugh, truly, no teacher can escape this ordeal. From Peter’s high hopes for Bruce in this universe to now being resigned, it’s been only a few days.

"How did things go?" Shiller asked, "Did Eddie receive the power? How’s he adapting?"

"There’s no problem with that." Peter opened the tin foil wrapping the barbecue and said, "Eddie is adapting well to the power, and Venom and Spider Power are very compatible, I feel like he’s evolving."

"And just after gaining superpowers, he got real battle opportunities, fought well, and had a feast." Peter lightly shook his head, "An outsider monk can chant better."

"Real battle opportunity, what real battle opportunity? Who did he fight against?" Shiller asked.

"You don’t know?" Peter was a bit surprised, "Stark Building was attacked again, and now Iron Man has hired Superman to protect his laboratory, and moved the entire building to the Recovery Alliance headquarters."

Shiller was stunned until Peter asked him, "What’s wrong?"

"It’s nothing, I just know what those people are up to."

Selina was sitting in the high-floor restaurant of the hotel, gazing at the place that used to house the Stark Building, which now had nothing and looked like a missing piece.

She took a sip of champagne from her glass, contemplating the current situation: if Hydra’s insiders took action within the Rebirth Alliance, whether to steal intelligence or make a few moves, they would certainly be detected.

It’s not that Selina doesn’t trust their skills, but even if the Rebirth Alliance doesn’t notice, wouldn’t Selina report it?

First, remove the nails within the Rebirth Alliance; then clear out the batch in the Stark Building; lastly, deal with those in the joint office. However, the American headquarters can’t be rushed yet.

The Assassin’s Union is a major trouble. If the American headquarters were completely wiped out, there would be no way to drag the Assassin’s Union down. She must first collude with the Assassin’s Union, then plan a few failed attack strategies, depleting the living force of the Assassin’s Union in Forward York City before taking out Hydra’s headquarters.

Selina had many plans swirling in her mind. She infiltrated Hydra to dismantle the enemy from within. The Three Great Empires are no longer influential and can’t pose a threat to the wedding; once these three criminal organizations are dealt with, many risks will be mitigated.

Actually, the best strategy is to start with the Court of Owls, since Selina is a Gothamite and naturally adept at persuading Gotham’s villains; and because the Owls now control the Mother Module, their strength is significant and requires priority attention.

However, Gotham is too young, Catwoman hasn’t debuted yet, and Selina can’t disguise herself as her. Without disguising as Catwoman, she doesn’t have a suitable identity to join them. They are not easily fooled, and replacing someone casually won’t work and might alarm them instead.

In comparison, Hydra has a longer history, but due to its massive scale, spread globally, and no one clearly knows anyone’s origin, it was also weakened by the Court of Owls before and urgently needed someone to take advantage of it; thus, infiltrating it is relatively simple, and Selina chose to start here.

As for the Assassin’s Union, she hadn’t considered it at all, mostly because they are Ninjas from the East, and she doesn’t have that skill. Besides, even if she infiltrated, suppressing Ra’s al Ghul, let alone Talya, would be difficult and unnecessary.

Just as Selina was contemplating how to drag the Assassin’s Union down, suddenly a shadow covered her, and there was a crisp sound on the opposite side of the table, as a plate was heavily placed on it.

Following this, a pair of blue eyes came into view, and as Selina looked up, she saw Bruce’s face but said nothing, only picked up her glass to take another sip.

Indeed, since the day she took off the engagement ring, they had been in a cold war; they hadn’t spoken much these past few days, and occasional exchanges were only because of Aisha.

"Don’t you plan to say something?" Bruce asked.

"Bruce, we’re no longer kids; some issues can’t be solved now, and bringing them up will only increase frustration. Better to calm down first," Selina said.

"I really don’t understand what madness you’re going through," Bruce said coldly, "Are you planning to do what other Catwomen do and run away from the marriage? If you hadn’t thoroughly thought it through, why did you accept my proposal?"

"See, whenever we talk about this, we’ll certainly argue," Selina shook her head and said, "If you like this seat, I’ll give it to you. I’m leaving."

Selina walked away with her glass, but her clenched fingers revealed her tumultuous emotions. Bruce remained seated, seeming to stare out the window in a daze.

After they completely separated, Selina felt relieved. Bruce’s acting was decent; when he wore a cold face, he had a unique charm. She shook her head; now was not the time to let emotions get the better of her.

Selina took off the engagement ring, exhibiting an attitude as if she wanted to escape the marriage. It wasn’t impulsive; while pondering about fate, she realized one thing, which was to combat fate, one must first comply with fate.

This can’t be forcefully done; the stronger the bond, the more fate tries to set traps. If soft tactics like sowing discord don’t work, fate will turn hard, causing inevitable separations that only divine interventions could mend.

If constantly beset by fate, daily vigilance and coping with the unexpected will sap all their energy, leaving them barely able to achieve anything. So, to counter fate, one must adapt to its preferred style first.

Isn’t fate disapproving of superheroes getting married? Isn’t it all about breaking up once involved, divorcing even if married? Then let’s break up first. No matter how powerful fate is, it can’t dictate the heart’s affections, can it?

In any case, I’ve taken off the engagement ring, I’ve stirred conflicts, we’ve conducted a cold war, and breakup is imminent. Surely, fate can’t send some calamity to forcibly keep us apart, can it?

Selina had not shared her thought process with Bruce, but she believed the hint she gave when removing the engagement ring was sufficient; Bruce would certainly figure it out.

Indeed, Bruce must have understood; otherwise, he wouldn’t have cooperated in acting out the argument. Selina knew, when Bruce was genuinely angry, he wasn’t like this.

When Bruce is angry, he rarely wears a cold face. If there are problems, he’d solve them first. If problems are resolved and only emotions remain, he wouldn’t express his emotional issues with anger and aggression; instead, he’d play the pity card.

Coincidentally, Selina is someone who would be repeatedly swayed by stray dogs on rainy days. Whenever she sees Bruce like this, she rushes to soothe him, being even less principled than Bruce in this regard.

Therefore, Selina rarely sees Bruce with a cold face; today happened to be refreshing, though, unfortunately, they’re currently acting out a cold war. Selina sighed and decided to divert her attention to work.

"Where do you think the Court of Owls will retreat to?" Selina paced in the Hydra America Headquarters, "Outside the Nine Major Kingdoms is chaotic; if they want to settle, there must be a place."

"Could it be one of the Three Great Empires?" a subordinate suggested, "They still have many safe Star Zones under their control."

"Even so, there must be a Middleman; the Court of Owls is from Gotham, how could they know the Three Great Empires? Besides, the Empires have just settled recently and don’t understand the Fusion Universe’s state; how did they connect with the Court?"

"Investigate it," Selina turned and said, "I feel like their swift retreat is unusual; someone must be manipulating behind the scenes."
