Although it was said this way, Carter still called Thor away, seemingly to discuss safety concerns with him. Shiller looked at Thor in front of him and said, "You know about this Cosmic World Tree, right?"
"Just found out," Thor said. "We didn’t come here because of that. We’ve been meeting a lot with the Prime Universe of the neighboring world, we always attend such weddings."
Shiller nodded. Sif, however, said, "I heard the Thor of this universe and Sif got engaged but then called it off?"
"Oh, that." Peter forked a piece of steak into his mouth, shook his head, and said, "I’m not sure you’re fit to hear this, but the Thor of our universe is indeed a bit..."
Peter paused, but it wasn’t to speak ill of Thor. He said, "He really likes Earth, but because of this, balancing the safety of Earth and ruling Asgard becomes very difficult. He’s made some unwise moves, like moving the Fairy Palace above New York..."
Sif slightly widened her eyes, "Moved to where?"
"Above New York," Peter sighed, "This way, he can satisfy his need to work with both The Avengers and the Fairy Palace, but the citizens of New York find it hard to accept such actions."
"Father of All Gods above, of course not," Sif wiped her mouth and said, "When gods are distant enough, people might have reverence and admiration, but if the Fairy Palace is right above them, humans would only feel fear. I always advocate for Asgard to maintain distance from the human race, otherwise, it will definitely bring panic."
"I never resorted to such reckless methods," Thor defended himself, "We produced a TV series first, which got quite positive responses, and people became curious about the life of the God Clan. Even so, we never intended to land directly on Earth, something the Supreme Magician wouldn’t agree to."
"Hold on," Sif suddenly remembered, "Where’s the Supreme Magician? Does he just allow this kind of recklessness?"
"Doctor Strange has stopped overseeing such matters," Peter shook his head, "I don’t know what he’s doing in The Sanctum, but indeed, he hasn’t appeared for a long time."
The couple exchanged glances, evidently not expecting the universe to have such a significant security loophole. Peter continued, "Actually, there’s an even more fatal aspect to Thor’s romantic history."
"What?" Thor was a bit surprised. He didn’t understand why his romantic history would be described as "fatal". "He wouldn’t have fallen in love with an assassin, would he? But how could an Earthly assassin possibly kill him?"
"Jane Foster, have you heard this name?"
"I met her in Battleworld," Thor said, "The Female Thor. Of course, in some universes, she dated Thor, but I’ve never met Ms. Foster of our universe; we don’t know each other at all."
Peter was about to ask, but then remembered something, he said, "So you’re not one of those Thors with a disguised identity?"
"No, I was cast down to Earth."
Peter nodded. Thor generally has two origins: one disguises himself as a surgeon upon reaching Earth, and the other is captured after being sent down. Obviously, the one in the Central Universe is the latter. However, it is uncommon for a Thor who hasn’t met Foster, indicating that the experiences of the Divine King in the Central Universe are quite extraordinary.
Peter briefly outlined the tumultuous romantic history of their Earth’s Thor, hearing which caused the couple to frown repeatedly, though not directed at the involved parties, but rather at Odin.
Thor recalled and said, "To separate the two of them, they kidnapped Ms. Foster? Excuse my frankness, but if what Odin did on Earth becomes known to the Asgardians, it would greatly shake his prestige."
"So do you really have a rule against falling in love with humans?" Peter had always been curious about this.
"It’s not forbidden to fall in love with humans," Sif emphasized, "It’s about not falling in love with a race that has a vastly different lifespan, much like if you were to fall in love with an insect, it would inevitably be a tragedy."
Thor nudged him with his elbow. Peter waved his hand and said, "It’s okay, I’m no longer Spider Man. Actually, I can understand that, but have you considered that sometimes what you can’t have is what’s best?"
"Odin doesn’t think so," Thor said, "Although kidnapping is a bit too much, Odin was upset because Thor is to inherit Asgard, and a partner who isn’t of the Immortal Species might not be able to undertake the role of Queen of Gods."
"The Queen of Gods in Asgard also holds authority," Sif said, "Typically, she manages logistics and even leads the army. For example, I am responsible for defense within the Nine Major Kingdoms, and I basically patrol every day. However, I think humans are not incapable of such duties."
"Firstly, the Father of All Gods could grant her a divine position, which would greatly extend her lifespan, or allow her to share Thor’s divine position, which is also feasible. Many gods in Asgard share divine positions with their spouses. This way, she not only gains longevity but also authority. Also, humans might not be incapable of shouldering responsibilities, right?"
Peter let out a deep sigh, "So in the end, the Father of All Gods relented, but, unfortunately, Ms. Foster couldn’t adapt to the Divine Power."
Sif showed an understanding expression, "The divine power of the Aesir is a very dominant force; you can’t just be a container to accommodate it. Instead, you must conquer it, not reject, but actively accept and manipulate it. Perhaps, for humans, it’s still too difficult."
"That’s the crux of the issue." Peter’s expression became somewhat serious, "Everything Odin ever did to Ms. Foster could be exploited by some, making the God Clan seem like a bunch of reckless beings playing with human emotions and disregarding lives."
"I can’t deny that the gods of your universe are like that." Thor said equally serious, "The human representatives have long been absent, whether it’s the Supreme Magician or The Avengers, how could they allow Odin to meddle on Earth like this?"
"Regardless of whose responsibility it is, the situation has come to this, and there are still quite a few people waiting for an opportunity to attack Thor, this matter will definitely be exploited."
"The key is Ms. Foster," Sif pointed out, "If she still has opinions about this, then Thor will have to bear the consequences of the Father of All Gods’ rash actions, but if she chooses not to pursue it, the attack might not be effective at all."
"She’s lost her memory."
Both sighed heavily.
"Father of All Gods protect Odin Sen." Thor made a gesture of prayer.
Sif drew a cross on her chest: "Let God protect him instead."
The restaurant gradually filled with people, all superheroes from various multiverses, many indistinct from any particular universe. Obviously, they didn’t visit on the same day, or else the security department really would have called the police.
They went on the first day, so they boarded the car under the watchful eyes of everyone. The car’s configuration was luxurious, mostly stretch limousines, equipped with all kinds of snacks and drinks, while the superheroes discussed matters concerning this universe.
Most of them weren’t familiar with Zero Earth, but they had quite an impression of the old 616 Main Universe. Over at Marvel, no matter the catastrophe, it either emerged from 616 or headed directly towards it, making it difficult to disentangle.
Though it restarted, everyone knew the past must have been grand and tumultuous, piquing interest in the events this universe has undergone. Besides, Peter had just been coincidentally talkative.
Throughout the journey, he talked incessantly, simple language notwithstanding, and by the time they got off, he was only halfway through discussing the Civil War.
Everyone listened with relish, and Shiller glanced over frequently: How on earth did Peter Parker fall in love with Gotham?
Off the car, they were greeted by a museum that looked like a combination of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art and Gotham Museum, featuring the classic Roman columns of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, yet infused with Gotham Gothic adornments, maintaining a predominantly white color scheme, though its scale was more than doubled.
The Rebirth Alliance appointed guide was very professional, starting by explaining the history of the museum, more precisely, the separate histories of the two museums and what they underwent during their merger.
Right upon entering the museum, Shiller sensed something was not simple. He had visited many museums and seen numerous exhibitions; some say the most important aspect of a museum is its collection, while others argue it’s the architecture of the museum itself. But Shiller preferred to study the lighting of various museums and exhibitions.
The lighting in the hall was handled with great intricacy, much like the new airport’s dome, filtering natural light through the transparency and texture of the glass, not only illuminating the entire exhibition hall but also avoiding being overly glaring.
"This is the museum’s foyer designed by Ms. Diana Prince, named ’Love and Light’. She abandoned Gotham Museum’s stained glass and the overly modern glass design of the Metropolitan Museum and instead opted for a retro approach to create these arched windows, with special treatment applied to the glass..."
The guide introduced while leading everyone to look at the windows. Shiller roughly guessed this might be Wonder Woman’s handiwork, after all, Forward York City was essentially a fusion of three cities, though Metropolis and New York’s styles weren’t vastly different hence were not singled out.
Shiller thought the lighting design of the new airport and this museum had Wonder Woman’s influence. But the designer did not appear, as they continued upwards to explore.
The museum exhibit was quite extensive, mostly related to historical and cultural topics, showcasing a series of transformations experienced by the two cities during their development process. Displaying New York leaned towards finance, art, and culture, while Gotham showcased fishery, chemical industry, and religion.
The photos left by New York mostly reflected vibrant vigor, especially during the Golden Age, whereas Gotham tended more towards gloom, with perpetual overcast skies and mist, resembling the city photos from backgrounds in Cthulhu role-playing games.
But the exhibition designer cleverly intertwined these two, with the lighting bright and dark, resembling intertwining color bands. Touring around not only revealed the differences but also uncovered many similarities.
And because the lighting at the juncture was most conducive for human eyes to read, people exiting from overly bright or dim lights would subconsciously scrutinize this section of text. Thus, upon completing the tour, more similarities were remembered. Shiller found this quite ingenious.
By the end of the morning visit, they hadn’t finished the tour, focusing on several grand exhibitions. For lunch, instead of going to a fancy restaurant, surprisingly they opted for a seaside seafood stall.
Calling it a stall isn’t accurate, as it occupies the best sea-view spot of the bay, with walls adorned with large seafood shells and specimens of big fish, evidently showcasing remarkable achievements.
Shiller was stunned upon stepping inside, spotting the emblem of Atlantis here. Indeed, the ultimate goal of Sea Clan trade is selling seafood to humans.
