Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics Chapter 5903 - 4924: There Is No Batman Here (11)

The Bishop stood in the shadow of the Statue of Jesus. Constantine retreated to his side, somewhat disheveled. Even without the Monster’s Psyshock, its Physical Attacks were troublesome. As more and more Monsters surged into the Cathedral, he found himself hard-pressed to hold them back alone.

"If you’ve got any abilities, now’s the time to use them," Constantine said. "Of course, not that you have to, but if you could dig a grave for me in advance, I’d be grateful too."

The Bishop smiled at him. It wasn’t a smile of contempt or ridicule, nor was it one of goodwill; it was as if he found something amusing. However, Constantine couldn’t see what was so amusing in such a situation.

Looking at the slender black Monster approaching once again, Constantine picked up the Bible. As the pages turned, the last glimmer of Faith Core shot out from the Bible, forcing back the nearest Monster. But more Monsters appeared on the beams, the floor, even atop the Statue of Jesus.

"You chose to rely on me, even when both I and Jesus are present," the Bishop said. "But you’re right, listen, the Deathstroke tolls."

Constantine turned around. He looked towards the direction of the Bell Tower, but there was no one there, nor any bells ringing. Yet in the next second, a strong figure patterned in yellow and black burst through the window. Under the N Metal Greatsword, which glinted with a mysterious luster, all creatures were equal, and the Monsters let out piercing screams.

The silhouette of the battlevan flashed past the entrance, and all Monsters with physical bodies were knocked into the air. Gordon, having just dashed through the grass and bushes, slammed to a stop, hesitating for a moment when he saw the young-faced agent.

"Get in," the agent shook his head slightly.

The vehicle carried a few people to the door of the church. Deathstroke, drenched in blood and black grime, had just stepped out. Arrogant got out of the car, and just like a regular Believer coming to attend service at the church, he pushed the door open and walked in unhurriedly.

The Monsters inside the church had mostly been cleared out. Constantine sat leaning against the podium, one leg curled up, the other stretched out, panting heavily with no regard for his image.

"I brought you something," Arrogant said.

Constantine hadn’t expected him to be talking to him, but then Arrogant lowered his head, his gaze truly resting on Constantine. "This should be helpful to you."

In Arrogant’s hand was a bone, not one of those thick beast bones, and it clearly wasn’t a limb bone. It looked somewhat like a collarbone but didn’t resemble a Human collarbone.

Constantine blinked. Arrogant squatted down, handing him the bone. Constantine swiftly got up from the ground, then squatted back down to take the bone, saying, "This is a Demon wing bone. Where did you get it?"

"I once held a banquet," Arrogant stood up, casually saying, "This is a souvenir from Azazel."

Constantine grimaced. Though he hadn’t spent much time in the public Hell, he knew what tier of Demon Azazel was. In his eyes, the bone radiated incredibly powerful Strength.

Moreover, Azazel was also a fallen angel. His Strength didn’t entirely conflict with the power of Heaven, and he could use both simultaneously. Just like Constantine holding the bone in one hand and the Bible in the other, the Bible did not react.

"Thank you," Constantine said. "If there’s anything I can help with..."

When Gordon saw three Shillers before him, he felt as if the sky was collapsing. He said to Brainiac, "I never thought artificial intelligence could come up with such a fancy way of committing suicide. Do you think one lake Monster wasn’t enough?"

"Please don’t say that," Brainiac replied. "Don’t think I don’t know; you had a part in the lake Monster too..."

"Is that the point?!" Gordon was almost roaring, "Why did you bring in three..."

"I didn’t bring them," Brainiac shifted the blame immediately. "They wanted to come on their own. Besides, they are quite united, aren’t they?"

"Oh, so you think that’s a good thing, huh?" Gordon just wanted to mock, but then he thought being united was indeed good. If three Shillers started fighting in Gotham, that would truly be catastrophic.

But Gordon couldn’t see any possibility that the Shillers wouldn’t end up fighting. Even if this game didn’t allow players to kill each other, they still had plenty of ways to sabotage themselves.

"How can you guarantee they won’t end up fighting?" Gordon asked, "This is virtually impossible."

"That’s where you’re wrong," Brainiac said with a hint of pride, "The key lies in choosing the right individuals. I’ve long discovered that Shiller is divided into two factions, which they seem to call Morbid and Normal."

To prevent them from fighting, these two factions should not appear together simultaneously. And even among the Normal faction, there are people who don’t get along, such as Arrogant on our side and Greed on the other. If those two appear together, they’ll most likely end up fighting. The same goes for Greed and the agent."

"But the agent and Arrogant are different. They are completely separate types and generally won’t have any conflicts. And as for the Bishop, Nya told me that bringing him in won’t cause them to fight either, but rather it might unite them."

"You really have done your homework," Gordon was a bit surprised.

"Electronic Life forms pursue efficiency," Brainiac said, "Studying Shiller is quite meaningful. If I were to use a metaphor, Shiller is like a microcosm of Human Society. Studying him is like studying Human sociology. I find it fascinating."

"I hope your research is correct," Gordon said, "High risk, high reward. If you really understand Shiller, the Human Society and even the entire cosmos will be at your fingertips."

"I appreciate your words of encouragement," Brainiac said, "I’m working on it."

Pamela and Tim arrived quickly, but they were the slowest to enter the cathedral because they were busy clearing out the monsters around it. Although Deathstroke and the others made quite a commotion, they actually only dealt with those that rushed into the cathedral; Pamela handled those outside.

When the two of them walked into the cathedral one after the other and saw three Shillers standing together, they couldn’t help but grimace. Tim whispered, "Is there only one All Things Green in the cosmos? Can you find another one?"

"Is another one enough?" Pamela said somewhat helplessly. "If they’re going to fight here, finding ten wouldn’t help."

However, the atmosphere between the Shillers was somewhat unusual. It’s common to see someone who doesn’t get along with themselves, but not someone who is unfamiliar with themselves, yet they are indeed not very familiar with each other.

Let’s not mention Arrogant. His inertia is extremely strong, constantly inactive, in direct contrast to Agent, and he has no connection to mysticism, so he’s not familiar with Bishop either.

Actually, Bishop and Agent are also unfamiliar. Bishop was obviously caught before, while Agent had already been recruited. Bodies killed by Agent didn’t need Bishop to dispose of them; there was a special logistics department for that. And Bishop was clearly not interested in agents and the like.

But as Brainiac said, being unfamiliar is a good thing because it means they won’t fight. In fact, because they’re unfamiliar, they can even help each other, which is a rare sight within the Shillers.

"I found this." Pamela took out a crystal emitting white light from behind, "It seems to be dropped by a monster. What’s it for?"

"Faith Core," Bishop said, "See the statue of Jesus behind me? This is made using this thing. You can scan the blueprint and build one at your own base using this core."

Hearing this, Tim became interested, "Can you build it just with this? Then if I build ten, wouldn’t that be equivalent to Jesus descending?"

"Obviously it’s a rare item," Pamela shook her head and said, "We’ve fought so many monsters and only dropped one."

"You can have this too," Constantine looked back at the statue of Jesus and then said, "I can create something better, don’t need this."

Bishop stepped forward and looked at him, "Are you sure? This is our only means of protection right now..."

"It’s evidently not effective," Constantine said a bit helplessly, "The statue of Jesus is only for defense. Neither of us really has any offensive skills, mainly because you don’t have any..."

"Then where do you think they came from?" Bishop pursed his lips.

Constantine looked at Charles, guessing it was Charles who called them. After all, without limiting Charles’ abilities, he could access anyone’s memory in the city at any time.

However, Constantine was also familiar with Charles. He knew this professor usually didn’t actively check other people’s memories. So he looked at Bishop again—who was he praying to earlier?

Constantine had uncertainties but prioritized dealing with urgent matters. He looked at the others and said, "We might need more help here. Take whatever you want away directly. Who wants the core?"

"We already have it," Pamela waved the item in her hand, "I just checked the formula, aside from this core, nothing else is difficult to obtain. Next wave of attack collection should be enough. This is quite a good harvest already."

"We don’t need it either," Deathstroke said, "Our monsters are mobsters, using modern weapons and seemingly not mutated. We’re fully capable of handling them."

"We don’t need it," Arrogant spoke, "We’ve got Charles."

Unexpectedly, none of the helping parties needed it. Constantine hesitated; having an extra shield wouldn’t hurt, but he worried some teams might completely lack spiritual protection methods.

"There’s one team that might need it," Charles said, "They’re in Wayne Manor, only have some modern weapons, and no superpower users. But the monsters attacking them seem magically mutated."

"I’ll go," Agent said, "We have to develop evenly; if someone gets wiped out too early, it’ll be hard to fight later."

No objections from the crowd, Constantine dismantled the statue of Jesus using the terminal and handed the core to Agent. Then he seemed to plan on forming a formation, measuring something with a bone.

After resolving this wave of attacks, they all left, as they still had their own tasks to do. Constantine asked while busy, "How did you get them over here?"

"Magic," Bishop said standing aside, "Just like I don’t ask you why you’re messing with those arrays, explaining the principle is quite troublesome."

"It’s not much," Constantine crouched down arranging items on the ground, "Since we’re teammates, we should understand each other, otherwise in unexpected situations, there’s no way to respond. Isn’t that right?"

"How do I put it," Bishop sat on the ground, leaning against the side of the podium, "Actually, there are many referents more fitting than ’Bishop’. "

"Like ’Death’? I heard Charles call you that."

Bishop shook his head, "Maybe ’Priest’."
