Dating My Scumbag Ex's Uncle Chapter 5
Previously on Dating My Scumbag Ex's Uncle...
As the eldest son's heir to Old Master Jing, Jing Ning was naturally the most treasured grandson of his generation. Upon seeing me at the age of six, he declared to his grandfather, "This little sister is so beautiful, I must marry her."
Old Master Jing and my grandfather were both pleased. The former was amused by his grandson's discerning taste at such a tender age and also showed sympathy towards my difficult circumstances. If his grandson expressed such a desire, he saw no reason to object, though naturally, nothing was finalized. However, my grandfather took this declaration seriously. It was a significant matter for the Nan Family. He worried that the bond between our family and the powerful Jing Family might weaken over the generations. The prospect of the young master Jing taking an interest in his granddaughter was, in his view, greatly beneficial to their family. Therefore, the fact that I safely navigated my childhood without my parents owed a great deal to young Jing Ning's pronouncement. At the very least, the second young miss, handpicked by Young Master Jing, served a purpose.
"Tsk! Are you stuffing your face with cake again? No girls at this party are acting like you. Watch your weight!" Jing Ning's conclusion was drawn from our position by the dessert table. He failed to notice the broken fork in my hand or my bleeding palm. I lowered my head, remaining silent, dutifully quiet and obedient as always. I willed my heart to slow its frantic pace, using the stinging pain in my palm to steady myself. In that moment, my deepest desire was to seize the nearest knife and plunge it into Jing Ning's detestable heart! This man was the very reason I had chosen to end my life! While I had been saved, our six-month-old child was lost. For another woman, he could even discard his own flesh and blood! I inhaled deeply, regaining my composure.
Jing Ning casually placed his hand on my shoulder. "I heard from your elder sister that you've been staying up late playing games again? Tsk, how do you expect to get into a good university like this? Let me tell you, if you don't make it into a good university, my mother will scold me endlessly, saying you're not suitable to marry into our family. Nan Xing, can you please try a little harder to make me look good? Hmm?" He watched me, expecting my usual, obedient nod. I met his gaze and calmly replied, "If this displeases you so much, then we should not marry."
Jing Ning appeared taken aback. He examined my face closely. "What's wrong with you? Did Auntie Yuan scold you this morning? Are you angry? And you're taking it out on me? You really need to learn some self-control." He then reached out to flick my forehead, as if to dismiss any defiance from me. I evaded his touch and tossed the broken fork into the trash receptacle. "Young Master Ning, my elder sister is looking for you. She asked me to bring you to her." I turned away from Jing Ning and walked off. Any longer gazing upon that face would surely cause me to lose control of my fury. Jing Ning quickly followed, asking, "Why is Nan Yang looking for me?" I offered no response. Jing Ning continued to trail behind me, his incessant chatter never ceasing.
Jing Ning, being the favored son, was adored by everyone. With everyone seemingly beneath him, he developed a savior complex throughout his upbringing. He considered himself a charitable soul, and I was his most significant charity case. Given his status, I ought to have viewed his agreement to marry me as a blessing, just as he did. My life had been predetermined since I was six years old. It was common knowledge that I was Jing Ning's personal property. But I was determined to cast off that label as soon as possible!
The moment Nan Yang saw me, her expression shifted. I raised my voice, announcing, "Elder sister, Jing Ning is looking for you." The surrounding guests turned their attention towards us. I smiled, looping my arm through Nan Yang's. "Elder sister, Jing Ning came looking for you the moment he arrived." Nan Yang couldn't conceal the joy on her face, gazing at Jing Ning with affection. Jing Ning frowned at me. I avoided his gaze and gently pulled my hand away from Nan Yang's. "Elder sister, I think I have a headache." Nan Yang said with concern, "Then you should go to your room and rest. This must be because you were playing games until dawn last night." She playfully patted me and said to her friends, "My little sister can be quite a handful! She's already an adult but still doesn't know how to take care of herself. She's a constant source of worry for my mother and me." Even at that moment, Nan Yang couldn't resist an opportunity to belittle me. She used me to elevate herself and her mother. I strode away without a backward glance. Jing Ning started to follow, but Nan Yang caught his arm. "Jing Ning, come, I'll show you our garden. Our flowers have bloomed." Jing Ning, having been raised as a perfect gentleman, would never reject a girl. This was his unshakeable life philosophy. I felt utter disdain for their self-righteous display.
The shock of being reborn a decade into the past hadn't even settled when I realized I couldn't endure their presence for more than a handful of moments without the urge to commit murder! They were the architects of my ruin, the very reason my life had been shattered.
