Dating My Scumbag Ex's Uncle Chapter 3
Previously on Dating My Scumbag Ex's Uncle...
My eyes landed on the math textbook that had caused me to trip. It was a Year 3 High School Math book.
That was a subject I had last studied a decade ago.
I had been reborn... but what about Jing Tian?
I had made him wait seven long years. We were supposed to be heading to the registry office to get our marriage certificate.
I pivoted and fixed my gaze on the bed. Had I been reborn in my sleep? Perhaps I could reverse the process with another sleep?
Without a second thought, I climbed back into bed, pulled the covers over me, and shut my eyes.
I thought internally.
Within my mind, Jing Tian's perfectly sculpted features came into focus. I recalled his devoted love and unwavering care for me, and his inexhaustible patience. The more I dwelled on him, the more my anxiety mounted. And the greater my anxiety became, the more elusive sleep proved to be.
I tugged the quilt further over my head, attempting to find a sense of calm to invite slumber.
“Hmph! What is the issue with our second young miss? Still refusing to stir even though the hour is so late? Must we allow our family and friends to witness just how indolent our second young miss is?” A shrill voice pierced the air from the bedroom doorway.
When Nan Yang had departed, I had neglected to secure the door. That was my mother, Li Yuan’s voice. The quilt covering my head was violently snatched away. I instinctively raised my hands to shield my eyes from the harsh sunlight.
“Nan Xing! What are you still doing lounging in bed? Did you not promise me you would prepare yourself? How can you slither back into bed? Are you some kind of pig?” Nan Yang’s arrogant visage reappeared before me.
I slowly sat up and weakly informed Li Yuan, “Mother, I’m experiencing a headache.”
Nan Yang shoved me. “Tough luck! Even if your head feels like it’s splitting apart, you must endure it! Today, the entire Jing Family and the Nan Family are converging here. Even Jing Ning’s seventh uncle will be in attendance. There will be a multitude of important guests. If you dare to commit any blunders, I shall never forgive you!”
Nan Yang’s tone was laced with malice.
?I was so utterly taken aback that Nan Yang’s threat barely registered in my mind.
Li Yuan gently pulled Nan Yang back. “Nan Yang, do not treat your younger sister in such a manner. Be cautious lest she goes and tattles to Young Master Jing Ning about you again!”
Upon hearing this, Nan Yang shot me a furious glare.
Li Yuan regarded me and offered a smile that was sickeningly sweet, “Nan Xing, did you mention having a headache? Would you like me to summon the family doctor? Or perhaps we could postpone your father’s birthday banquet? After all, nothing holds greater importance than the well-being of our second young miss.”
I hastily scrambled out of bed and straightened myself. “Mother, I’m already feeling considerably better. Naturally, canceling Father’s celebration is out of the question!”
Li Yuan’s gaze sliced through me, sharp as a blade. “You declared it yourself.” I offered a confirming nod.
“Nan Yang, let us go and review your gown fitting.” Li Yuan turned to depart. Pausing at the doorway, she glanced back, a smile gracing her lips as she addressed me. “Nan Xing, since you’re feeling unwell with a headache, perhaps your elder sister could attend to Young Master Ning. You, on the other hand, should make a brief appearance and then return here to rest. We wouldn’t want you to overexert yourself.” Her voice softened considerably towards the end, reverting to the dignified persona she presented to the outside world.
The moment Li Yuan voiced this suggestion, I observed Nan Yang’s eyes gleam with delight, and a triumphant smile spread across her lips.
I nodded obediently. “Yes, Mother. In that case, I shall trouble my elder sister to entertain Young Master Ning today.”
Nan Yang’s smile widened, radiating pure joy. Li Yuan departed with evident satisfaction, closely followed by Nan Yang.
With newfound gentleness, I closed the door and secured the lock. Leaning my back against it, I slowly slid down until I was seated on the carpet.
My toes brushed against the math textbook, and a tremor ran through my heart. It was because Li Yuan and Nan Yang had drugged me two days prior to the university entrance examinations, causing my performance to be disastrously poor. Deprived of a promising future, I was relegated to a third-rate university, thereby reinforcing the public perception that the second young miss of the Nan Family was indeed a beautiful woman with a vacant mind.
The prevailing gossip suggested that despite the considerable expense of my tuition fees, I had only managed to secure admission to a substandard institution.
In stark contrast, Nan Yang had gained entry into the prestigious M University! The rumors were, in fact, untrue; she was the one who had incurred vast expenses for her tuition, not I!
Reflected within the mirror affixed to the wardrobe, a woman sat upon the carpet. The oversized, antiquated cotton nightgown she wore could not conceal her commendable figure. Her unadorned face possessed a radiant glow. Her facial features were delicate and strikingly beautiful.
I ran my fingers through my disheveled hair and stood up.
