Yang Qing explained the various methods of avoiding karmic and fate divination, noting that powerful cultivation, Saint-grade treasures, or strong bloodlines were the most reliable. Lacking these, attaching oneself to a powerful cultivator or organization was the next best option. Yang Qing mused that his own talent and potential future self might offer some protection, though it was theoretical. He then planned to use Veiled Destiny’s expertise to confirm details about a suspect, rather than uncover new information. Meanwhile, Shitong examined a jade slip related to an organization with mythical members, finding himself unable to access certain memories, a frustrating experience that left him contemplating his own cultivation limitations.

Yang Qing couldn’t help but chuckle when a strange thought surfaced in his mind. Given the reputation the Treasure Coin Pavilion held, not to mention the sheer volume and quality of the wealth they possessed, it wasn’t entirely out of the question that Shitong, despite his cowardly nature, might one day succumb to temptation, leave the nest, and actually go looking for it.

And knowing him, Yang Qing was fairly certain Shitong would find a way to drag him along, if only so they could share the misery of venturing into the unknown together. After all, misery loved company. If Shitong felt there was even the slightest chance he might end up boiled into a hot pot, he would gladly serve Yang Qing up alongside him.

What would it look like when two bickering cowards went adventuring together?

The image was both chilling and amusing to Yang Qing.

He lingered on the thought for a brief moment before his attention was swiftly drawn to the leaf Shitong had been eyeing, which had now returned to its original form as a rustic gold and silver coin.

"If I used it on the spirit vein, would it evolve into a mature dragon vein?" Yang Qing wondered aloud as he rolled the coin between his fingers. It disappeared and reappeared from knuckle to knuckle, his eyes reflecting its golden gleam.

This coin was made from an Ancestral Dragon’s jade crystal. Yang Qing was hardly an expert on Ancestral Dragon Veins, but the intuitive greed within him wondered whether there were differences in quality among them. And if there were, then wasn’t it reasonable to assume that the Ancestral Dragon Veins of the Treasure Coin Pavilion were among the highest tier? After all, an organization founded by mythical races would naturally settle for nothing less than the very best.

Going by that logic, if a Mature Dragon Vein’s crystal could evolve a High-grade spirit vein into a Lesser Dragon Vein, then what was an Ancestral Dragon’s jade crystal capable of? After all, the latter was more precious than a Mature Dragon Vein crystal.

Surely it wouldn’t be impossible for it to handle a tiny little thing like evolving a Lesser Dragon Vein into a Mature Dragon Vein? Surely he wasn’t deluding himself into thinking it was possible... right?

Yang Qing’s face grew warm with excitement at the possibility.

The collector in him wanted to hold on to the coin because of its provenance and history. Who knew what other mysteries it held, considering where it had come from? But on the other hand, the pauper in him had been suffering for far too long.

Getting mocked by an obese bird was bound to wear down the spirit.

The changes a Mature Dragon Vein could bring...

He could retire early.

The ascendant-grade spiritual plants and herbs he planned to have Qingfeng, the Treasure Dung Beetle, cultivate could have the time they took to mature reduced significantly with the presence of a Mature Dragon Vein.

Not to mention the cultivation-related benefits he himself would enjoy. His dream of becoming Old Lei’s supervisor, or at the very least escaping his shadow, would be much closer to becoming a reality.

Yang Qing’s grin widened as he imagined the look on Kang Huilang’s face, along with everyone else’s, when they emerged from seclusion only to discover that his abode now possessed a Mature Dragon Vein.

Yang Qing rubbed his nose sheepishly as he realized that last thought stirred more excitement within him than all the others combined. The thought of dragging Huilang over and forcing him to breathe in the scent of a Mature Dragon Vein thrilled him far more than the prospect of dozens of ascendant-grade herbs growing around his abode.

Was he ashamed of it, though?

Not in the slightest.

"I wouldn’t do that if I were you."

Yang Qing’s fanciful thoughts of the heights his bragging would reach with a Mature Dragon Vein, along with the fifteen-minute speech he planned to give when Huilang, Yi Jie, Feng Xin, and the others emerged from seclusion so he could graciously and most humbly announce his windfall, were cut short by Shitong’s drawled remark.

"What do you mean?" Yang Qing defensively snapped back, more bite creeping into his tone as he quickly enclosed the coin in his hand, shielding it for fear that Shitong had something underhanded planned.

"Using the coin to upgrade your spiritual vein... It won’t work," came Shitong’s reply from the nest.

Yang Qing couldn’t see his face, but he had the uncanny feeling that Shitong was smiling at him with disdain as he made that statement.

"And why wouldn’t it work?" Yang Qing asked coldly. "This is an Ancestral Dragon’s jade crystal from the Treasure Tree Coin Pavilion, no less, and you’re saying it won’t work? Let me guess, you’re about to tell me its true value will only shine the brightest if it’s handed over to you. Is that it?" Yang Qing asked with a contemptuous smirk, wearing the expression of someone who had seen through everything and found the scam painfully unoriginal.

Yang Qing’s smile deepened with satisfaction because, just like earlier, even though he couldn’t see it, he was certain Shitong had twitched with rage.

"Of course that coin is wasted on you. You having it is no different from putting an emperor’s crown on a pig. Only someone like me can allow that jade coin to shine in all its brilliance. And it’s not like you won’t profit from it. Last I checked, you use the nest too," Shitong remarked coldly.

Driven by sheer vindictiveness and unwilling to let Yang Qing bask in that smug look for even a second longer, Shitong immediately continued.

"The spiritual vein in this abode is merely a tributary of an Ancestral Dragon Vein. Feeding that coin to it will only benefit your superiors, who likely have their abodes at the true heart of that Ancestral Dragon Vein.

Though, considering what a seasoned bootlicker you’ve become over the years, perhaps you wouldn’t mind feeding that coin to the spiritual vein so they can be even more comfortable.

Now, what was Yang Qing’s philosophy of fawning again?

So go ahead, ... Wag that fawning tail of yours before your superiors and share that coin with them," Shitong said, chortling to himself when he finished.

Yang Qing blinked in surprise. No, confusion was the more dominant expression as the seconds went by.

His gaze swept across the abode before settling on the nest once more, his expression growing increasingly befuddled.
