Yang Qing and Yang Shitong engage in a brief but intense sparring match, which they treat as a regular occurrence. Afterward, Yang Qing reveals to Shitong the origin of a leaf-shaped ornament on his robe, which was a Treasure Coin, and the deal he made with Tang Xiadan. Yang Qing then proceeds to bury the Treasured Dung Beetle's egg and plant the Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling near the Green Flame Tree, dedicating them to nurturing and growth within his abode.

The Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling shyly twirled one of its supple branches before awkwardly waving it toward the Green Flame Tree after the introduction.

The Green Flame Tree responded by sending over a slender thread of green flames that wrapped snugly around the sapling like a warm blanket. Only this blanket, on top of being the warmest and most comfortable one in the world, also possessed nurturing properties that were just as otherworldly.

Within a single breath of those flames embracing its body, the Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling grew from the size of Yang Qing’s palm to the height of a bramble bush.

It wasn’t only its height that changed. Even its leaves shone with greater radiance.

After half a minute, the thread of green flames dispersed like a gentle breeze, breaking the connection between the Green Flame Tree and the sapling. Even so, the sapling’s body remained surrounded and suffused with the Green Flame Tree’s flames, their nurturing warmth flowing within and around it.

"Remember to thank your big sister when you wake up," Yang Qing softly said to the Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling, which had already fallen into a deep slumber, gently lulled to sleep by the Green Flame Tree’s flames.

Despite having already awakened its spirit, the Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling’s spirit was still immature in many ways, much like that of a newborn child.

The Green Flame Tree’s flames weren’t just nurturing the sapling’s body. They were also nurturing its spirit, helping it mature and greatly shortening the time it would have taken to do so naturally.

There were countless treasures, techniques, pills, and potions capable of nurturing a newly awakened spirit and accelerating its growth, but half of those measures carried considerable risk. At that stage, the spirit was no more fragile than an egg, requiring the utmost delicacy and precision when interacting with it. The slightest mistake could cripple it.

As for the methods that offered greater success with less risk, they were not only exceedingly expensive but also exceptionally rare. Yet even among those, few, if any, could match the Green Flame Tree.

There were not many things in this world that could surpass her when it came to nurturing life in all its facets.

After all, these very flames had hatched Yang Shitong.

Considering he was a mythical race, it went without saying that incubating one of their eggs required something extraordinary. Yang Qing wasn’t even sure Shitong’s egg would have hatched if it had instead been placed at the center of an Ancestral Dragon Vein.

"Spoiling your little sibling already," Yang Qing teasingly said to the Green Flame Tree.

As gentle, warm, and welcoming as the tree was, most of the inhabitants of the abode had never been wrapped in her flames like a comforting blanket the way the Resting Root Spirit Oak sapling had been. They mostly benefited from the ambient influence of her flames, which was more than enough given both their proximity to her and the potency of her flames. Even in their ambient state, they had seeped into every inch of the abode, even permeating the spiritual vein itself.

As a result, whether they realized it or not, everyone living in the abode benefited from her nurturing flames.

That being said, there was a world of difference between receiving something passively and receiving it directly. The latter naturally yielded greater benefits, especially when the source itself was personally bestowing them.

Yang Ning was receiving special treatment.

Yang Qing couldn’t help but chuckle to himself.

The Green Flame Tree welcomed everyone, but even she had her favorites from time to time, and she never bothered hiding it.

Yang Qing bitterly thought as his gaze drifted toward Shitong.

The fact that the Green Flame Tree had allowed Shitong to build his nest atop her crown was proof enough of how much she doted on him.

Funny enough, incorrigible and vile-mannered as Shitong was, he was always on his best behavior around the Green Flame Tree and went out of his way to accommodate her.

Yang Qing had even seen that vicious bird part with some of his precious resources to nourish the Green Flame Tree, and not just once.

Of course, unwilling to appear soft in front of Yang Qing, Shitong always played it off as nothing more than long-term planning, using the far-sighted excuse of,

But Yang Qing could see right through him.

What betterment of the nest? Wasn’t that what all the blood Shitong continuously and mercilessly siphoned from him was for?

Yang Qing didn’t like it.

Shitong didn’t deserve a lick of special treatment from the Green Flame Tree.

"Did you uncover anything?" Yang Qing asked as he took the seat opposite Shitong. He figured the bird had likely been digging through the memories within his bloodline to see if it contained any information tied to the location recorded in the slip.

He was quite the dutiful busybody whenever even the faintest sniff of a precious treasure was involved.

He’d never admit it to Shitong, but Yang Qing had always been rather envious of that ability.

Though it wasn’t unique to Shitong. Spirit beasts descended from powerful bloodlines or lineages, even those outside the mythical races, possessed similar gifts. Through their bloodline, they could pass down their memories, experiences, and inheritances to future generations, alongside the powerful abilities and innate advantages that came with them.

The history fanatic in Yang Qing couldn’t help but lose himself in the endless fantasy of possessing an ever-growing archive of his ancestors’ memories and experiences.

What fascinated him most was that the inheritance wasn’t limited to a single progenitor. While the progenitor naturally accounted for the overwhelming majority of the memories preserved within a bloodline, descendants who reached comparable heights, or even came close, could likewise leave behind the imprint of their own lives and experiences.

Those imprints would then become part of the bloodline’s inheritance, passed down for future generations to gradually awaken and explore, the extent of what they could access depending on how pure or concentrated their ancestral bloodline was.

Yang Qing found himself fantasizing about the things he would see if he possessed such an inheritance.

To witness the world through countless pairs of eyes across different eras. To experience civilizations and ages long reduced to dust. To unravel innumerable mysteries with little more than a thought...

He’d lose himself in the endless, ever-growing wonder of:

He envied Shitong.

If ordinary spirit beasts could inherit memories spanning hundreds of thousands of years, then what would the bloodline of a mythical race contain?

He wouldn’t be surprised if Shitong one day told him that he’d unlocked a new memory containing the coordinates to the River of Destiny, or the Origin Source of the countless Daos that shaped their world, or the truth of what lay at the bottom of the Millionsfold Treasure Ocean, or any of the countless other mysteries that had plagued the continent for hundreds of thousands of years without answer.

A few seconds after Yang Qing’s question, Shitong’s brow furrowed before he finally said, "Nothing."

There was frustration in his tone, but more than that, the emotion that dominated was surprise.
