Upon hearing Mr. Guan’s pronouncement, the members of the Zoroastrian Sect swiftly retreated like a receding tide, following him. "Fiery Fire Flag, commence the inferno," he commanded.
With that single order, the Fiery Fire Flag immediately set ablaze, engulfing the Heavenly Dangerous Pass, the third formidable barrier, in flames.
The conflagration that erupted on the Heavenly Dangerous Pass effectively halted the pursuit from the second formation. Regrettably, it also ensnared some of their own Zoroastrian Sect members who were attempting to flee.
At that precise moment, a desperate chorus of pleas for aid arose, begging not to be abandoned and to be rescued. Yet, their cries were swallowed by the inferno, turning them into mere ashes within the raging fire.
Witnessing their fellow Zoroastrian Sect disciples perish in the flames, the assembled crowd fell into a somber silence, acknowledging they were witnessing the end of their own brethren. Mr. Guan, dabbing a tear from his eye, gestured with his hand, declaring, "Retreat to the Seventh Level for a final, desperate stand!"
The command was met with immediate and fervent compliance, and with utmost urgency, everyone hastened their steps towards the Sixth Level.
This section, the third pass of the Zoroastrian Sect, known as Heavenly Peril, was breached. The contingent rapidly withdrew from it, making their way towards the fourth pass, Cloud Platform.
They pressed onward, deliberately bypassing the Fifth Level, Jinge, and the Sixth Level, Gusong Ridge, until their journey ended at the Seventh Level.
At Wangchuan, Mr. Guan's strategy was to trade territory for precious time. His objective was to await Du Zundao's successful resolution of matters on the mountain, master the Qiankun Great Method, and ultimately unveil the secret passage for their escape.
However, the passes from the fourth to the sixth lacked the crucial difficulty. Only this Seventh Level, Wangchuan, presented the greatest peril, situated directly behind Bright Peak. It represented their ultimate defensive line; if this pass were to fall, Bright Peak itself would face dire endangerment.
Therefore, upon reaching this critical juncture, a palpable sense of impending, do-or-die combat pervaded the atmosphere amongst everyone present.
Mr. Guan observed the imperial army assembling below, held at bay by the roaring flames. Recognizing their position was untenable for long, he addressed his followers, "My comrades, should this battle be lost, we shall all be entombed together on Kunlun Peak. Do you fear this fate?"
"We do not fear! We do not fear!" the crowd responded with unified voices.
"Are you prepared to fight, everyone?" he pressed further.
"We will fight! We will fight!" they affirmed with conviction.
"Excellent! Then follow me, and we shall defend this position to the very last breath!"
With this rallying cry, every individual immediately resolved to defend the area to their death, their expressions grave, truly prepared for the ultimate struggle, with the fierce spirit of 'battle' etched onto every face!
Observing the unwavering resolve on everyone's countenances, Mr. Guan couldn't help but let out a sigh, lamenting, "The very survival of our Holy Sect hangs by the thinnest of threads. May the Heavenly Gods and Buddhas protect us."
"Form the array! Take your positions! Prepare for engagement!"
"Understood!"
All members of the Zoroastrian Sect acknowledged the orders.
Meanwhile, within the now-devastated courtyard of the Liu Residence, Monkey, accompanied by Han Ling'er and Liu Caidie, and escorting Du Xiong, made their entrance. Upon scanning her surroundings, Liu Caidie's gaze landed on Chen Jie, who was seated there. "Where is my grandfather?" she inquired immediately.
Chen Jie responded, "Hmm, he has been released. He is currently pursuing Du Zundao."
"Ah, then my grandfather will be alright, won't he?" Liu Caidie asked, a flicker of hope in her voice.
Chen Jie, hearing this, replied, "With the Master's cultivation at the Melt God Realm, what trouble could possibly befall him? You worry far too much."
Chen Jie then turned his attention to Monkey, stating, "You lot were entirely ineffective. Du Zundao was not restrained in the slightest."
Monkey responded with a crestfallen expression, "Du Zundao doesn't care in the least about Du Xiong's life; what then could we have done?"
At this juncture, Chen Jie fixed his gaze upon Du Xiong and remarked, "Du Xiong, your father is truly ruthless, is he not? Even a tiger does not prey on its own cubs, yet he abandoned you without a second thought?"
Du Xiong's expression grew grim upon hearing this, and he stated, "To achieve great undertakings, one must not be fettered by trivial matters. My father is focused on accomplishing great things."
Chen Jie nodded, concurring, "Indeed, great endeavors are not bound by insignificant details; your father is a truly formidable individual."
Even Chen Jie had to concede the ruthless nature of Du Zundao. Just then, Han Ling'er approached Chen Jie and informed him, "The imperial army has commenced their assault on the mountain; Bright Peak is in grave peril. We cannot afford to remain idle here any longer."
Chen Jie nodded in agreement, and Han Ling'er promptly asked, "What course of action should we take next? We must rescue my brother!"
Liu Caidie voiced her agreement as well, exclaiming, "Yes, we absolutely must save Brother Lin'er!"
The moment these words were uttered, Chen Jie's brow furrowed slightly, and just as he was about to respond, a figure suddenly descended from the heavens. Upon recognizing this figure, Liu Caidie rushed forward with immense excitement.
"Grandfather!"
Liu Futong had unexpectedly returned. Could it be that Du Zundao had finally been subdued?
