Chen Jie and Liu Caidie have agreed to work together to escape the encirclement of King Qi Residence and reach Bright Peak. Because Chen Jie is weakened by the Blood Devouring Poison and Liu Caidie is injured, they must rely on strategy rather than brute force. They decide to disguise themselves to evade their formidable pursuers, with Chen Jie assuming the appearance of an ugly old man and Liu Caidie adopting the look of a graceful lady. As Chen Jie waits at a hidden temple, Liu Caidie ventures back into the dangerous territory of Lantian County to secure essential supplies.

The plain-looking girl cast a glance at Chen Jie and giggled, "What do you think?"

Chen Jie replied with a chuckle, "Truly, natural charm never fades; Miss Liu, you look absolutely stunning."

Liu Caidie retorted, "Of course, I am one of the Fire Worshiping Double Pride."

"Fire Worshiping Double Pride?"

Chen Jie felt a pang of surprise at the title, asking, "Who else belongs to this duo besides you?"

Liu Caidie puffed out her chest with pride. "Naturally, it is Sister Ling’er."

"Sister Ling’er? Which one are you referring to?" Chen Jie inquired.

"Han Ling’er, obviously," Liu Caidie answered, tossing a heap of rough, rugged fabrics at Chen Jie, the kind of attire typically worn by a steward or elderly servant.

Chen Jie eyed the garments and looked back at her. "I am expected to wear these?"

"Naturally. You will dress like this and pose as my attendant. For my part, I am the third daughter of the Chang’an Zhao Family, traveling discreetly to offer birthday greetings to my grandmother at Chang’an Mansion."

Chen Jie examined her, noting, "The Chang’an Zhao Family—is that not a major commerce enterprise?"

"Correct," Liu Caidie replied. "They manage mercantile affairs for the peripheral branches within our Sect. Borrowing their name is perfectly acceptable."

"So, I am to be the aged servant, then?" Chen Jie muttered.

Liu Caidie fixed him with a stare. "Do you have an issue with that?"

Chen Jie gave a wry smile. "I suspect you are getting revenge on me. Couldn't I at least masquerade as your brother?"

"Who would ever believe that, given how unattractive you look? Enough, quit your complaining. By the way, I have already dubbed you Zhao Fu."

Chen Jie remarked, "Very well, you certainly have everything mapped out for me this time."

Despite his words, Chen Jie privately acknowledged the effectiveness of her plan; shifting from a dashing hero to a decrepit servant created such a stark contrast that it would be nearly impossible to establish any link between the two. However, he remained suspicious that Liu Caidie took a bit too much delight in selecting such a lowly role for him.

Without further ado, Chen Jie began his transformation. He donned the coarse clothing and utilized the Bone Shrinking Skill to hunch his frame, topping it off by whitening his hair with special dyes to cement the illusion of age.

Liu Caidie inspected him critically. "Hmm, not bad at all. It will be quite difficult for anyone to pinpoint your identity. To make it truly realistic, however, why don't you pretend to have a limp?"

"A limp? I can certainly manage that," Chen Jie said. "But will it look suspicious if a distinguished Miss of the Zhao Family travels without guards, accompanied only by a crippled, elderly servant?"

Liu Caidie instructed, "You can identify as someone at the Energy Transformation Level for show, but whatever you do, avoid using your Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms technique, or you will draw unwanted attention. Tell me, do you know any other martial arts skills?"

Chen Jie nodded slowly. "As a lame old servant, I can claim proficiency in the Stone Breaking Hand."

Indeed, having learned the Stone Breaking Hand from Peng Shizhong, he had other skills at his disposal. Breaking stones was a simple parlor trick, but it was enough to solidify his status as a guard for the Outer Sect. Furthermore, Liu Caidie concocted a tragic backstory: she was a secret daughter of the Zhao patriarch, raised away from the family and traveling north with only this one loyal servant both to honor her grandmother and to finally claim her rightful status.

Once their roles were finalized, they prepared for departure, with Liu Caidie settling into the carriage.

Chen Jie took his place on the driver's bench, steering the carriage steadily toward the north.

Before long, they arrived at a road checkpoint manned by soldiers, where an old man sat nearby sipping tea.

The white-robed elder possessed sharp, eagle-like eyes; he was clearly Elder Shu of the Kunlun Sect.

Elder Shu surveyed the area, his gaze landing on the approaching vehicle.

"Halt!"

The guards spotted the carriage and barked a command, forcing Chen Jie to rein in the horse immediately.

Whoa!

He nimbly climbed down from the driver’s seat and approached the guards while feigning a pronounced limp. "Is there a problem, officers?"

The soldiers squinted at him, taking in the white-haired, hunchbacked, and lame figure in rough clothes—he looked every bit the part of a lowly, elderly servant from a wealthy household.

"Where are you coming from, and what is your destination?" the soldiers demanded with clear arrogance. Chen Jie discreetly fished some silver from his robes and slid it toward them, maintaining the air of a savvy, world-weary servant.

Seeing the bribe, the guard stole a glance at Elder Shu. The elder, in turn, rose from his seat, grabbed his sword, and began walking toward the carriage.

The soldier sneered. "Don't try to bribe us; our officer here doesn't care for that. Give us the honest truth about your origin and destination."

Recognizing the double meaning in their gestures, Chen Jie handed over the money while saying, "Officers, we are traveling from Huai’an to the Chang’an Mansion of the Zhao Family to celebrate the matriarch’s birthday."

The soldier nodded, pocketing the silver. "Celebrating a birthday? Very well, you may pass."

Seeking to avoid further trouble, the soldier waved them through. Chen Jie quickly responded, "Thank you, kind officers, we shall be on our way."

He turned to head back to the reins, dragging his leg noticeably, when a sharp voice thundered, "Stop!"

Chen Jie froze and turned to see Elder Shu closing the distance, his eyes locked on Chen Jie’s face, examining every detail.

Elder Shu was a veteran of the Jianghu with deep knowledge of concealment and disguise; he reached out, intent on pinching the ugly scars on Chen Jie’s face to test for a mask.
