As these thoughts crossed her mind, she swiftly slipped into a narrow alley and carefully removed the mask covering her face.
Before long, a radiant and alluring young woman emerged in the quiet backstreet.
Liu Caidie touched her smooth, porcelain-like skin and grinned: "You fools can keep hunting for that hideous girl. This lady is done toying with you."
With that, Liu Caidie made straight for the city gates. At this point, the guards there had lost their zeal for inspections and were merely performing routine checks.
"Next."
"Next."
The disguised girl joined the queue of common folk and exited alongside them. When her moment came, the guard eyed Liu Caidie’s stunning features and stole several extra glances. He failed to link her to the homely suspect in the poster, since it described an unsightly woman, yet this one was far from unattractive—she was downright gorgeous!
Besides stirring a touch of pity and drawing lingering stares from the males, the troops remained completely unalarmed. In this way, the so-called ugly girl smoothly departed from Lantian Prefecture City.
...
Thud thud thud...
Within the thick woods beyond the walls, in that well-known spot, a pair of figures pursued Chen Jiusi with wild desperation.
One of them bellowed in rage: "Chen Jiusi, if you’ve got the guts, halt and face my palm strike head-on."
Chen Jie inwardly decided that fleeing was the smart choice. In that instant, he vaulted upward, bounding rapidly over roofs and barriers, vanishing in a flash upon spotting Chen Jiusi’s plan to escape.
Right then, Elder Shu bellowed: "Fourth Brother, lend me a hand."
Hearing this, Elder Hua replied: "Elder Brother, the Sect Leader and the rest are nearly upon us; no need to push so hard."
Elder Shu thundered back: "I share a bond like blood brothers with Elder Qin and Elder Qi. Our sworn foe stands before us today—how could I allow him to slip away? Fourth Brother, quit hesitating."
Elder Hua let out a quiet sigh, realizing persuasion wouldn’t work now and might only worsen matters.
With that in mind, Elder Hua stated: "Elder Brother, I’m ready."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Elder Shu propelled himself skyward with Gang Qi, and Elder Hua promptly funneled some of his own Gang Qi to him, offering his palms as a platform.
The force from those palms launched him the following instant, sending Elder Shu soaring high.
His velocity hit its peak, cutting off Chen Jie’s route directly, and in the blink of an eye, he thrust a palm toward Chen Jie.
Chen Jie hadn’t foreseen Elder Shu pulling off such a formidable technique; surprise flickered in his mind, yet he swiftly steadied himself and countered with a strike from the Seventeen Dragon Capturing Palms, smashing into Elder Shu.
A thunderous boom echoed as Elder Shu retreated two paces.
Though he touched down, he had sealed off Chen Jiusi’s escape, forcing Chen Jie to pause briefly.
Now, as Chen Jie tried to veer away, Elder Hua charged in, cutting off his withdrawal.
Elder Shu advanced and declared to Chen Jie: "Chen Jiusi, where do you imagine you can flee? After slaying our Kunlun brethren, won’t you account for it?"
Chen Jie eyed the duo barring his path and retorted: "Heh, I never thought Kunlun’s followers would chase so relentlessly."
"Indeed, you’ll face the consequences due!" Elder Shu shot back.
Chen Jie responded: "Looks like it’s do or die today. If you’re so keen on perishing, I won’t object to Kunlun losing more elders."
"Bold claims! Let’s see if your strength matches your boasts!"
Elder Shu snarled, then commanded Elder Hua: "Fourth Brother, we strike together and finish him!"
Elder Hua inhaled deeply and agreed: "Alright, alright, since it’s come to this, we must battle."
He lunged at Chen Jie without delay.
They both understood that solo, they stood no chance against Chen Jiusi—Elder Qin and Elder Qi had already perished by his hand, and neither Elder Shu nor Elder Hua surpassed them greatly in prowess.
Though Elder Shu ranked highest among the Four Great Elders, and Elder Hua had entered the Molten Furnace Realm too, their combined might outdid Elder Qin and Elder Qi’s.
Yet against the man who felled Elder Qin and Elder Qi, they dared not slacken.
The duo now united their assault. Swordsmanship eluded them both; they excelled in bare-handed combat. Elder Shu mastered Kunlun’s Wind Stabilizing Palm, a sturdy and unyielding art, while Elder Hua commanded Kunlun’s Southern Vermilion Bird Fist.
Together, they assailed Chen Jie ferociously.
Suddenly, Martial Arts Illusions materialized behind each.
Elder Shu summoned his Martial Arts Illusion, revealing a bizarre beast with a bird’s head and deer’s body. Chen Jie, versed in ancient lore from years of study, instantly knew it as Fei Lian, the wind deity of old!
Elder Hua invoked his own, and a colossal bird wreathed in blazing fire loomed behind him.
It was the Vermilion Bird, among the Four Spirits of Heaven and Earth.
The Vermilion Bird beat its wings, unleashing a torrent of sky-high flames.
Elder Hua pressed ahead, clenching his fists, now sheathed in golden fire.
This was the Southern Fire.
Meanwhile, Elder Shu extended his palms wide, boundless force swirling within, embodying Wind Power—the dark Wind Gang exuded a terrifying aura.
Chen Jie saw these two as no pushovers and focused entirely, skipping any tests as he lifted his hand to invoke the Summer God’s wrath.
