Chen Jie and the ugly girl engaged in a tense conversation inside their inn room, aware of the formidable experts from King Qi's residence surrounding them outside, including the mighty Overlord Blade Qi Chun and Kunlun Sect leaders. Chen Jie dismissed the threats with calm indifference, bantering lightly before settling down to sleep, while the ugly girl seethed with frustration. In the dead of night, she attempted to escape but was swiftly immobilized by Chen Jie's precise pebble strike to her acupoint, leaving her frozen until dawn when he mockingly released her, provoking her explosive anger.

With a mocking comment, Chen Jie rose to his feet and declared, "Keep honing your abilities this way, I'm stepping out for some breakfast."

As he spoke, Chen Jie exited the room and shut the door behind him. Nearby on the street stood a breakfast stall meant for ordinary folks. Guards from the Prince Mansion or figures like Chang Xuzi wouldn't typically show up at a place like that.

Chen Jie reached the stall at that moment, requested a serving of wontons along with a steamer of buns, and dug in with gusto.

He also asked the owner to ready another batch of steamed buns for takeaway.

The owner nodded in agreement, and while Chen Jie savored his meal of wontons and buns, a group of individuals stepped through the entrance.

Chen Jie cast a quick look their way, his eyes narrowing a bit, recognizing some known faces among them.

Sure enough, at the forefront was the promising youth from Shu, the Eight-Armed Arhat named Ming Yuzhen, someone he'd encountered not long ago in Wushan.

Accompanying him was an imposing old man mounted on a horse, likely possessing Cultivation in the Molten Furnace Upper Realm.

Spotting this elder, Chen Jie figured he must be the Second Master of the Shu Tang Sect, tasked with handling operations.

Chen Jie had crossed paths with the Sect Master earlier, a formidable Melt God Realm powerhouse, and this senior was at the Molten Furnace Upper Realm, aligning with the strength expected from leaders of the Six Great Sects.

The Tang Sect had made their entrance into the city too.

That's what Chen Jie pondered as he stole a few more looks, surprised by how alert the Tang Sect members appeared, particularly Ming Yuzhen, who seemed to pick up on something and lifted his hand right then.

In an instant, the entire group halted.

The Second Master, confused, turned to Ming Yuzhen and inquired, "Yuzhen?"

Ming Yuzhen replied, "Second Master, I sense we're being observed."

The Second Master then scanned the area, his stare brimming with menace that forced nearby folks to avert their gazes. Chen Jie ducked his head as well, marveling inwardly at Ming Yuzhen's sharp senses, truly befitting the top disciple of the Tang Sect.

Such thoughts ran through Chen Jie's mind as he felt Ming Yuzhen's eyes sweeping over the crowd.

Chen Jie kept munching on his buns without a flicker of unease.

Ming Yuzhen's eyes passed over him no fewer than twice. Any trace of odd behavior would have been spotted immediately.

Chen Jie had no illusions about his acuity, considering not everyone possessed eyes featuring double pupils.

Chen Jie noticed Ming Yuzhen's gaze nearing a third pass over him, dreading a potential fourth since repeated scrutiny heightened the chance of detection.

Yet at that precise moment, a voice rang out unexpectedly.

"Are you the brothers from the Tang Sect?"

Those words drew everyone's focus that way, revealing a man rushing up who, once close, clasped his hands and stated, "I'm from the King Qi Residence; kindly come with me."

"Our Commander Qi and Kunlun's Chang Xuzi await the honored seniors of the Tang Sect."

Hearing this, Ming Yuzhen eyed the speaker and the Prince Mansion badge he displayed, then turned to his Sect Master.

The Second Master, learning that Commander Qi of the Prince Mansion—known as Overlord Blade Qi Chun—and Chang Xuzi were expecting them, sensed no time for delay and thus consented.

"Very well, let's go greet Commander Qi and perhaps nab Chen Jiusi later."

The Second Master declared, prompting nods from the other Tang Sect specialists. Right then, Ming Yuzhen swept his gaze around once more, still convinced someone close by was keeping tabs on them, yet unable to pinpoint the source.

With that in mind, Ming Yuzhen added, "Fine, we'll meet Commander Qi and Elder Chang Xuzi first."

At his words, the Tang Sect disciples chorused their assent, after which the Prince Mansion guard instructed, "Follow me, please."

As the group made their way toward a tavern not far off, Chen Jie popped the final bun into his mouth.

He stood, asked the owner to wrap up the leftover buns, and then Chen Jie took the package back to the inn.

Chen Jie released the acupoint on the ugly girl: "Eat up, finish it so we can move out quickly."

The ugly girl shot Chen Jie a glare full of resentment at those words, since being frozen in place through the night and into the morning would sour anyone's temper.

Even so, she devoured the buns while fixing Chen Jie with a stare, and he remarked, "Okay, quit staring daggers at me."

"The Tang Sect has come into the city."

Chen Jie noted, startling the ugly girl who then flashed a sly grin at him and teased, "The Tang Sect is here now too. Wonder what you'll do about it?"

"What can I do? Worst case, I'll turn you over to beg mercy from Qi Lian."

"It's you they truly want, after all, and they won't go all out against me. Besides, without you dragging me down, things would be simpler for me, right?"

The ugly girl scowled at Chen Jiusi hearing this and snapped, "You scoundrel, betraying allies for personal gain."

Chen Jie burst into laughter at that, "Betraying allies for gain? I captured you, yet you call me an ally. You've got your loyalties all twisted!"

The ugly girl found herself at a loss for words, and after a lengthy silence, muttered, "Hmph, I'm done talking to you."

Chen Jie replied, "Fine by me, I'm not keen on chatting either. Eat your fill; I'm heading out to scout."

With that, Chen Jie spun around and slipped out the inn's rear entrance, merging into the flow as he strolled toward the city gate posing as a strolling merchant.

Chen Jie arrived at the gate shortly, spotting a cluster of soldiers posted there.

Gazing that way, Chen Jie saw the soldier count today was multiples higher than yesterday's, with a sea arrest warrant displayed near the gate.

Drawing nearer, Chen Jie scanned it: [Arrest Warrant]

[A rebel from Jiangnan, Chen Jiusi, has sneaked into this city and abducted a young girl; report sightings to authorities for a reward of fifty taels of silver!]

Beneath it hung a sketch of Chen Jie, strikingly accurate in resemblance.

Chen Jie was unaware this image came from Elder Hua of the Kunlun Sect, hence the likeness to Chen Jiusi.

Taking it in, Chen Jie pivoted to inspect the city wall, pondering if bypassing the gate meant scaling the wall.

After circling around, Chen Jie spotted no weaknesses in the wall's defenses, guarded more tightly than ever, with watchmen every few paces and stations close by.

Additionally, roving patrols were active, and from the soldiers' exchanges, Chen Jie deduced many were strangers to one another. Evidently, forces from the nearby Prefecture City had been summoned by the King Qi Residence to assist, trapping him like a cornered beast.

Grasping this, Chen Jie knew slipping away undetected was out of the question.

This setup was truly a inescapable snare.

Such notions sharpened Chen Jie's focus, acknowledging the mess wouldn't untangle without drastic action on his part.

After mulling it over, Chen Jie hatched a scheme, aware a single misstep could land him snared like prey in a trap.

Plan set, Chen Jie reversed course and returned, snagging a stick of candied haw en route back to the inn. The ugly girl wasn't naive; upon learning of the Tang Sect's arrival, she remained cooped up in the room instead of roaming.

Back inside, Chen Jie passed the candied haw to her. Surprised, the ugly girl queried, "What's this? Trying to buy me off?"

"Buying you with candied haw? Looks like the Zoroastrian Sect's fortunes have waned, same for the granddaughter of the Three Venerables."

The ugly girl shot back, "You're mocking me with this candied haw, right?"

Chen Jie grinned, "Enough, we're leaving this spot shortly."

The ugly girl countered, "You've lost your mind. With the King Qi Residence, Kunlun Sect, and Tang Sect all present, packed with Molten Furnace Realm powerhouses, venturing out means courting death, doesn't it?"

Chen Jie retorted, "Courting death? Hard to say who meets their end."

Noting his confident air, she remarked, "You truly have no fear of dying. If you don't, I'll tag along. I want to witness your getaway from Lantian City."

Chen Jie stated, "Then keep your eyes peeled. I can work some magic."

"What's magic?"

Intrigued, the ugly girl pressed, and Chen Jie clarified, "A clever ruse."

Thereupon, the pair departed via the back door to the outdoors. The ugly girl turned to Chen Jie, "So how do we get out now?"

Chen Jie surveyed the surroundings and instructed, "Head to West City yourself, I'll take East City. We separate, and when chaos erupts in East City, make your exit from the city."

At this, the ugly girl froze, staring at Chen Jie in astonishment: "You plan to draw the authorities' chase for my sake?"

Still dubious, she gaped at Chen Jie, who explained, "Don't get ahead of yourself. I just fear you'll hinder my pace; I'd move quicker solo."

"Moreover, I won't let you get caught since you're my capture."

Finishing, Chen Jie eyed the ugly girl and urged, "No more chatter, move out."

The ugly girl wavered for a second, struggling to accept it but ultimately departed. Chen Jie tracked her figure until it vanished, preparing to go his own way when she halted and called back, "Go two hundred miles west post-escape; a ruined temple awaits there, and I'll linger for three hours. Fail to arrive, and I'm gone for good!"

Huh?

Chen Jie stood briefly dazed by her declaration!
