After the traitor He Wu commits suicide by drowning, Lin Xuankong reflects on the temptations of cultivation and the fragility of the human heart. He then encounters Miao Wan'er and others, who are anxious to find him after he left the banquet without a word. Liang Yucheng and Ding Ye recount the incredible events at the tavern, describing a powerful immortal who battled He Wu.

The many officers around kept chiming in from time to time, each showing excited expressions, clearly still caught up in the excitement of encountering the "Immortal".

After Liang Yucheng roughly recounted the previous events, he turned to Lin Xuankong:

"We weren’t kidding with you, Brother Lin. Everything we said earlier was witnessed and heard personally by us. If there’s even a hint of falsehood, may I be a turtle bastard! Tsk tsk, speaking of which, that Immortal came and went just like that, truly effortlessly. Not only our little Qingyuan City, but any place across the world, including our Great Yan’s Kyoto, the Ai Race’s capital, Xiluo and Southern Rakshasa’s capital cities, couldn’t possibly stop that Immortal!"

Ding Ye, hearing this, said sternly, "That’s not all. It’s just that the Immortal didn’t want to show his true face; otherwise, if anyone knew the Immortal’s name, where he lived, even if he lived in the world’s most remote corner, that corner would immediately become a place where dignitaries from all over flocked to. After all, in this entire world, who wouldn’t want to be near the true Immortal!"

Many officers nodded repeatedly when they heard Ding Ye say this, showing very obvious expressions of longing and excitement.

Lin Xuankong smiled and said, "According to your leaders, that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal Master has some skills!"

Liang Yucheng widened his eyes immediately upon hearing this, "What do you mean by having some skills? Those are Immortal skills, and extremely powerful ones at that! You didn’t see it on the spot; you can’t fully comprehend the ease with which that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal dodged eight bullets, nor can you comprehend the speed of that Immortal which was as quick as a wisp of smoke, completely indistinguishable, utterly indistinguishable! If that black-robed Immortal Master wanted to take someone’s life, the other party likely wouldn’t even have time to react before being killed on the spot!"

Ding Ye’s eyes revealed a trace of longing, he said with some emotion:

"It’s more than formidable! That black-robed ghost-faced Immortal even commanded that Ninth Young Master Huang from the Capital to spend money taking care of all the poor people of Qingyuan City! Such benevolent immortal kindness truly inspires respect, and likely after some time, countless impoverished folks in Qingyuan City will worship that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal and narrate his immortal deeds everywhere!

It’s just uncertain whether we mortals will have another chance to encounter that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal!"

Upon hearing this, Lin Xuankong looked at the talented Ding Ye and said, "You definitely will; maybe that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal hasn’t left Qingyuan City! Besides, for cultivators, fate is paramount. Since you were fated to meet the Immortal this time, you will surely be fated to meet him again in the future!"

Ding Ye, Wei Hong, Liang Yucheng, and others, upon hearing this, all showed expressions of longing. Liang Yucheng couldn’t help but remark, "Although I know Brother Lin’s saying this to comfort us, hearing you say so, there’s still a certain comfort in our hearts! Sadly, people like us, even if we had the chance to meet that black-robed Immortal again, could only watch from the distance, never really get acquainted, since Immortals and Mortals are different!"

Lin Xuankong didn’t speak but smiled.

At this moment, Third Miss Miao, Miao Wan’er, standing not far away, glanced at Lin Xuankong a few times, her pretty eyes suddenly showing a hint of doubt.

She mused to herself: Earlier on the second layer of the tavern, I always felt that the stature and movements of that black-robed ghost-faced Immortal Master seemed somewhat familiar, but even after rummaging through every familiar person in my mind, I couldn’t find anyone whose stature and movements closely resembled that Immortal Master! Yet the Lin Qiang before me, in height, build, and movements, bears some resemblance to that Immortal Master!

Most critically, it appears that when the black-robed Immortal Master appeared, I was searching for Lin Qiang and couldn’t find him, and then, after the black-robed Immortal Master and He Immortal left, Lin Qiang returned! Something feels amiss!

Additionally, I’ve seen this Lin Qiang from childhood and a few times later, always feeling like Lin Qiang has undergone some change, lacking the vigor and impulsiveness typical of young people like Liang Yucheng, instead possessing a very peculiar sense of calm!

But Lin Qiang’s family background, life, history, and experiences supposedly have no problems. He should not have practiced any Immortal Techniques, nor ever been taken as a disciple by an Immortal Master; otherwise, if Lin Qiang were truly that fearsome black-robed Immortal Master, how could he fail to protect the Lin Family’s business, and would he need to beg his way to Qingyuan City, almost starving on the way!

It doesn’t make sense, not at all!

The least logical part is, if he were that black-robed Immortal Master, just displaying a little prowess would be enough to soar to great heights, even the most powerful families in Great Yan like the Huang Family, Feng Family, Ma Family, and Sima Clan would unhesitatingly honor him as a distinguished guest and serve him with utmost respect! Why would he linger within a small family like ours, the Miao Family, living in a modest detached courtyard all day?

Miao Wan’er quickly turned through countless thoughts,

Lin Xuankong greeted the many officers and walked with Miao Wan’er toward the Miao family car.

Once seated in the back seat with Miao Wan’er, as Lin Xuankong looked out the window, the still puzzled and curious Miao Wan’er spoke, "If you encounter that powerful black-robed ghost-faced Immortal in the future, what will you do?"

Lin Xuankong couldn’t help but be a bit speechless; would I meet myself?

He pondered silently for a moment, then said, "The Realm of Immortals is naturally immensely desirable to someone like me. After all, in Great Yan’s legends, those Immortals often live two to three hundred years, formidable ones live four hundred years, and some live thousands or tens of thousands of years. And these legendary Immortals can ride clouds, roam the heavens and earth, revered by all, even receiving worship from earthly emperors—what a delightful, liberating experience!

If I, Lin Qiang, had the opportunity to meet an Immortal someday, of course, I would be willing to abandon all temptations of the mundane world and follow the Immortal to practice Immortal Techniques! But such an immortal chance is elusive, impossible to reach; there are millions of mortals, but how many are gifted and lucky enough to gain an Immortal’s favor!"

Seeing him say this, Miao Wan’er continued, "But aren’t Immortals different, with righteous and evil paths? Like the so-called Supreme Immortal Master He Zhenren, who was exposed by that black-robed Immortal to rely on harming countless women to achieve that realm! If you... were that black-robed Immortal Master, how would you deal with He the Immortal?"
