Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off Chapter 843: The Vegetable Thief

The raccoon immediately froze, instantly turning limp. This time, he had absolutely no chance of escaping.
Su Qinglan walked over and examined the creature carefully. "Is he a beastman or a wild beast?"
Hu Yan snorted softly. "Definitely a beastman."
Su Qinglan’s eyes widened. "A beastman?"
She looked at the little raccoon again in disbelief. If he was a beastman, then why was he stealthily raiding their farm like a wild pest?
"Then why were you stealing from our farm?" Su Qinglan asked, crossing her arms.
The raccoon remained stubbornly silent.
Hu Yan’s sharp eyes narrowed into dangerous slits. "Are you going to return to your human form yourself, or should I beat you until you do?"
The raccoon’s face immediately changed in terror. He hurriedly shouted, "I’ll transform! I’ll transform!"
A moment later, his small furry body was surrounded by a faint, shimmering glow. His fur disappeared, and his form rapidly expanded.
When the light faded, a young-looking male beastman stood in front of them.
But...
Su Qinglan’s eyes widened even further.
He was tiny! He barely reached Hu Yan’s chest. In fact, he was barely taller than Su Qinglan herself.
Su Qinglan stared at him in sheer astonishment. She had lived in the Beast World for quite some time now, but this was the very first time she had ever seen a raccoon beastman. She couldn’t help looking at him from head to toe.
So this was what a raccoon beastman looked like?
The raccoon beastman shifted uncomfortably under her intense, curious stare.
Su Qinglan finally cleared her throat and asked, "Why were you stealing from our farm?"
The young man lowered his head, his ears drooping slightly. "I didn’t mean to."
Su Qinglan raised an eyebrow. "Then?"
"My mates wanted some," he said, stating it so naturally that Su Qinglan almost didn’t register the words. "They said the vegetables smelled really good. They said they didn’t smell like ordinary, bitter wild vegetables."
Su Qinglan was completely speechless. He had actually admitted to his crime so frankly!
But just as she thought he was being honest, the nimble raccoon suddenly twisted his slick body and tried to slip past them to escape again.
"Got you!" Han Jue reacted instantly, his hand shooting out to grab the raccoon’s shoulder.
The raccoon’s face changed as Han Jue’s fingers tightened around his arm, his sharp nails pressing against him just enough to make him stop struggling.
"Let him go," Su Qinglan said softly.
Han Jue glanced at her but obediently loosened his grip.
Su Qinglan looked at the raccoon suspiciously. "So you really have a mate?"
"Of course!" The raccoon immediately puffed out his chest proudly. "I have a wife!"
Han Jue sneered coldly from the side. "You?"
The raccoon glared at him fiercely.
Han Jue looked him up and down with utter disdain. "You don’t even look old enough to have one. And judging by your sneaky behavior, I doubt you can even support yourself."
The raccoon’s face turned bright red with indignation. "What do you mean?!"
Han Jue crossed his arms. "You’re lying."
"I am not!"
"You clearly don’t have a wife."
"I do!"
The raccoon was now completely enraged. He stomped his foot on the dirt and blurted out, "I have three wives!"
Silence. The entire group fell completely silent.
Su Qinglan blinked, thoroughly stunned. "...Three?"
The raccoon realized what he had just shouted, but it was already far too late to take it back. He huffed angrily, trying to save face. "Yes! Three wives!"
He pointed an accusing finger at Han Jue. "You know nothing about me! I have three females waiting for me at home, and I’m the only one who has to take care of all of them!" His expression became even more aggrieved. "You don’t know how difficult my life is!"
Su Qinglan stared at him, her jaw practically on the floor.
Three wives? All his?
Her mind suddenly went blank. Was this really the Beast World?
She knew that female beastmen had multiple husbands; that was the absolute rule of this land: one female with several male partners. She had never once heard of a male beastman having several wives!
Yet this little raccoon was confidently claiming that he had three.
Su Qinglan’s immense curiosity immediately took over. She leaned a little closer. "Three wives?"
The raccoon proudly nodded his head. "All mine."
"And they all live together?"
"Yes."
"They’re all your mates?"
"Yes!"
Su Qinglan’s eyes sparkled brightly. She suddenly wanted to know whether this man was telling the truth or simply making up an absurd story to save himself from a beating.
She glanced at Hu Yan and Han Jue before turning back to the raccoon with a sweet smile. "Then I want to meet them."
The raccoon froze instantly. "...What?"
"I want to see your wives," Su Qinglan said, her smile looking completely innocent. "If you really have three wives waiting for you at home, I’ll know you’re telling the truth, and I might just forgive you for stealing."
The raccoon’s expression instantly became extremely complicated. He opened his mouth, closed it, and looked toward the distant forest nervously.
For some reason, he suddenly seemed much less confident than he had been a second ago.
Su Qinglan’s eyes narrowed playfully. Interesting. Was this little raccoon actually lying?
The raccoon gritted his teeth, visibly building up his courage before suddenly puffing out his chest again. "Fine! I’ll take you!"
He took one bold step forward toward the forest edge. Then another.
But before he could get more than three paces away, Su Qinglan’s green vine quietly slithered across the grass and curled snugly around his ankle.
The raccoon stopped and slowly looked down at his bound leg. "..."
Su Qinglan smiled sweetly at him. "You thought you could run again?"
The raccoon awkwardly scratched his cheek with a tiny, guilty grin. "Hehe..."
Hu Yan immediately snorted in disgust. "I knew it. He’s a dirty liar."
"I am not!" the raccoon shouted angrily, turning red again.
