Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off Chapter 802: The Right to See Her Daughter
Previously on Clumsy Beast, Keep Your Paws Off...
Over in the corner of the courtyard, Duo Duo was a complete, sobbing mess in Shen Mochen’s arms.
Her big, tear-filled eyes were fixed on the sight of her furry puppy-brothers getting ready to board with Auntie Su.
The realization hit her all at once: she was going to be left all alone once again!
How could her tiny heart accept this?! She didn’t want to stay in this big, quiet place by herself. She wanted to go with them!
Aside from her father and her Uncle An Mo, she didn’t have any playmates in the Upper Domain, and now even Uncle An Mo was following Auntie Su to the lower domain!
What was she supposed to do now?
Duo Duo kicked her tiny legs and wailed hysterically, her little fists clutching her father’s robes.
Shen Mochen knew that if his daughter stayed here watching the carriage pack up for even a second longer, her heart would break completely. Seeing her cry like this shattered his own soul into a thousand pieces.
Hoping to distract her, Shen Mochen quickly carried the weeping little girl toward the secluded back garden of the Heavenly God Estate.
He paced back and forth along the quiet, stone-paved paths under the shaded trees, softly humming and rocking her in his arms to make her forget about the departing carriage.
Yet Duo Duo wept so hard that her tiny chest heaved with piteous hiccups.
By the time her loud wails gradually quieted into soft, lingering whimpers, the poor little thing had finally cried herself to sleep from absolute exhaustion.
Shen Mochen stopped in his tracks, looking down at his precious daughter.
Her delicate, tender little face was flushed bright red like a boiled shrimp, her long eyelashes still wet with heavy teardrops. It was such a heartbreaking, pitiful sight that Shen Mochen felt a sharp, stabbing ache in his chest.
Moving as gently as possible, he walked over to a peaceful stone pavilion nestled among the flowers. He laid his sleeping daughter down on the smooth, soft bench, carefully adjusting his outer robe over her tiny shoulders as a blanket.
Seeing that Duo Duo was fast asleep, Shen Mochen decided it was best to slip out of the Heavenly God Estate immediately before she woke up and saw the empty estate, which would only trigger another round of devastating tears.
He turned around and quickly headed back toward the main pavilion to retrieve her small travel bag.
It took him less than a minute to grab the bag and rush right back to the garden.
However, the moment he stepped into the stone pavilion, his steps froze.
Standing right beside the bench was a figure, reaching out a soft, delicate hand that was just inches away from touching Duo Duo’s tear-stained, flushed little cheek!
In a flash of terrifying speed, Shen Mochen’s shadow flickered!
PA—!
Before that hand could graze his daughter’s skin, Shen Mochen’s large, iron-like fingers shot out and clamped down hard around the slender wrist, stopping the gesture dead in mid-air.
Shen Mochen’s handsome face instantly hardened into a terrifyingly frost-bitten mask.
His dark eyes glinted with a sharp, murderous light as he glared at the intruder, his voice dropping into an icy, dangerous growl.
"What do you think you’re doing?"
The moment Shen Mochen’s cold voice cut through the air, the woman froze, a brief flash of surprise crossing her features.
She had not expected him to return so quickly, nor had she anticipated him catching her wrist with such unyielding precision.
The shock lasted only a heartbeat before she composed herself, forcing a facade of perfect stillness over her face. "Mochen..." she said softly, her tone carrying a delicate, pleading, gentle edge. "I was only checking on her."
Shen Mochen’s fingers remained wrapped around her skin, his grip tight and his cold expression refusing to soften in the slightest.
"Checking on her?" he echoed, his voice quiet, dangerously low.
When she nodded, explaining that she had seen the little one crying so hard, he cut her off with an icy challenge: "On what basis? On what basis do you think you have the right to check on her? What is your relationship with her?"
His words struck like a physical blow, causing her breath to hitch as anger, humiliation, and deep-seated hurt surged through her misty eyes.
Her fingers curled tightly into her palm, trying to anchor herself against the pain.
She had anticipated his hostility and braced for his resentment, but hearing those words spoken aloud still felt like a blade driven directly into her heart.
Trembling lips pressed together as she fought back her tears, forcing the truth out through gritted teeth.
"I am her mother!"
The declaration echoed through the quiet garden, but it only served to turn Shen Mochen’s eyes terrifyingly cold.
Shoving her away abruptly so that her body staggered backward, he spat out with restrained fury, "You lost that title the day you cruelly abandoned my daughter. Don’t you dare throw it in my face."
Pale and wounded, the woman masked her pain under a lowered gaze, taking a slow breath before trying once more to soothe his rising temper.
"Mochen, don’t be angry," she begged softly, explaining that seeing the child weep so bitterly had overcome her restraint. But her words only elicited a harsh, humorless laugh from him.
"You couldn’t resist?" he mocked, his voice growing hoarse with resurfacing memories.
"When she was born, she was crying even harder. She cried day and night, so small she could barely open her eyes, and yet... I never once saw you look back."
The truth of his words crushed her, making her heart feel as though it had stopped entirely as she hung her head, unable to defend her past choices.
Seeing her desperate struggle to hide her tears, something in Shen Mochen’s expression softened despite his overwhelming anger, his inner resolve wavering as he realized a part of him still couldn’t bear to see her suffer.
Sensing the shift, she lifted her eyes and lowered herself into a kneel, her voice trembling in painful humility.
"Lord Shen Mochen... I beg you. I won’t do anything. I won’t take her away. I just want to look at her."
The sight of her kneeling struck him like a thunderbolt.
Shock rippled through him...why was his mate lowering herself, begging him of all people, when she had never needed to humble herself before him?
His heart softened, his clenched fists loosening as he felt the overwhelming urge to pull her up and tell her she never had to beg.
