The troublesome beast cubs Xiao Yi, Xiao Er, and Xiao San caused chaos in Dragon Beast City, escalating into a fight over whose mother was prettiest. Meanwhile, the respected Old Healer publicly introduced Su Qinglan as his talented new apprentice, surprising everyone and positioning her to help the city's declining birth rate.

The entire area ceased moving. Even Su Qinglan’s eyes flickered slightly.

The elderly healer disregarded everyone’s reactions and boomed with pride, "Trust this old man, this young lady has already surpassed many healers despite her tender years. It even surprised this venerable one."

At this, the crowd grew even more skeptical. A few females couldn't help but knit their brows.

After all, how could they readily place their faith in a young, unfamiliar woman?

Especially when the aged healer lauded her so extravagantly. Many believed the old man was merely showing undue favoritism.

At that moment, a woman murmured,

"Isn't she from that clan that only recently arrived in Dragon Beast City?"

Instantly, the gazes directed at Su Qinglan shifted, laced with suspicion, doubt, and uncertainty. Yet, no one dared to step forward.

Witnessing this, the old healer’s face flushed crimson with fury, his beard practically quivering.

"You dare to doubt this old man?!" he bellowed, striking his staff against the ground once more.

Bang!

"If you lack faith in her, then begone! This old man does not offer charity!"

A wave of anxiety washed over everyone. It was exceptionally rare for the old healer to become truly enraged, and when he did, even the City Lord struggled to pacify him.

Then, with a dramatic flourish, he rose and grasped Su Qinglan's sleeve.

"My little granddaughter, let us depart! Grandpa will take you elsewhere! These blind fools fail to recognize true treasure!"

Su Qinglan nearly chuckled but dutifully followed. However, just as they prepared to leave, a woman rushed forward.

"Old Healer, please wait!"

The woman appeared somewhat flustered before turning to Su Qinglan with a polite expression.

"Elder Sister… could you perhaps examine my pulse?"

Su Qinglan paused for a moment.

Elder Sister?

She regarded the woman before her. This woman clearly appeared to be in her thirties or older.

Su Qinglan instinctively touched her own face.

Had she already aged that much?! She was still in her early twenties, after all!

Despite having given birth previously, she still looked youthful!

Internally, she was close to tears, but outwardly, she maintained a serene smile.

"Certainly."

The old healer immediately let out a proud snort and haughtily resumed his seat.

"Hmph. At least one person here possesses discernment."

The woman sat somewhat awkwardly before Su Qinglan, extending her wrist.

Su Qinglan gently took her wrist and carefully began to feel the pulse.

Initially, her expression remained neutral.

But gradually…

Her brows furrowed slightly.

Then, her fingers paused. The condition within this woman's body was… quite peculiar.

Furthermore, the woman herself gazed at Su Qinglan with a strange intensity, as if anticipating Su Qinglan's potential embarrassment before the assembled crowd.

The woman standing before Su Qinglan was named Yue Lian.

She possessed a gentle and beautiful appearance, with long, dark hair tied back and a soft smile gracing her lips.

"Elder Sister…" Yue Lian said sweetly, lightly touching her abdomen. "When might I conceive a child? It has already been five years since my first mating, yet I have yet to become pregnant."

The surrounding area fell into silence.

Many females covertly observed Su Qinglan with curiosity.

Su Qinglan calmly met Yue Lian's gaze. Her brows slowly knitted together. This peculiar look brought a slight stiffness to Yue Lian's smile.

After a short while, Su Qinglan spoke softly.

"You cannot conceive a child in this lifetime."

The moment Su Qinglan uttered these words, a hush fell over the entire space beneath the grand tree. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath as all the females and beastmen stared at her, their faces etched with disbelief.

Yue Lian's complexion instantly turned ashen, and her body swayed precariously, as if a profound, deeply buried secret within her heart had been suddenly unearthed. Her fingers trembled uncontrollably before she abruptly snatched her hand away from Su Qinglan.

"What absurdities are you spouting?!" Yue Lian shrieked, her voice sharp and wavering. "You merely felt my pulse for a moment, and now you dare to curse me thus? You outsider woman, how could you possibly claim I can never become a mother!"

Her voice escalated, drawing the attention of nearly everyone nearby who gathered around them.

Su Qinglan remained utterly composed, standing silently. Her expression did not falter, even as Yue Lian pointed at her accusingly with tear-filled eyes.

"You are envious of me!" Yue Lian continued to wail, her emotions running high. "You simply wish to humiliate me in front of everyone because Elder Healer Ye bestowed praise upon you! How could I never conceive a cub? Look at me! I am perfectly healthy!"

Beside her, her beast husband, a wolf beastman named Lang Chi, also frowned deeply, his hands resting on her shoulders in support. His countenance was grim, as this matter had always been the most sensitive pain within their lineage.

A murmur immediately spread amongst the surrounding women.

"Did you hear what she said just now?"

"She claimed Yue Lian is incapable of bearing children?"

"How can that be true?"

"But the esteemed Healer Ye is standing right here, and he hasn’t refuted her words..."

Some individuals clearly found Su Qinglan’s statement unbelievable. After all, Su Qinglan was still a newcomer to Dragon Beast City, whereas Yue Lian had been a resident for many years.

Su Qinglan simply observed Yue Lian patiently for a moment before speaking in a composed tone.

"I merely spoke the truth. Why are you all reacting so strongly?" she inquired gently. "And deep within your heart... surely you understand the reason far better than anyone else?"

Yue Lian froze abruptly, her pupils constricting sharply.

A fleeting glimpse of panic crossed her eyes, so swift that only Su Qinglan and the old healer perceived it.

Healer Ye narrowed his eyes, stroking his lengthy beard in contemplation. He had examined Yue Lian numerous times over the years, yet each examination revealed no physical abnormalities. Nevertheless, despite being mated for five years, she had never once conceived.

This fact alone was quite peculiar.

The old healer’s expression grew even more grave as he fixed a profound gaze upon Su Qinglan.

Meanwhile, Yue Lian’s emotions erupted completely.

"What do I know?!" she shrieked hysterically. "You’re fabricating these claims! You’re cursing me!"

With her outburst, she lunged furiously towards Su Qinglan, as if intending to shove her.

However, before Yue Lian could even lay a hand on Su Qinglan, Shi Feng swiftly interposed himself, his expression icy, blocking her path.

"Enough," Shi Feng stated coldly, his sharp gaze fixed on Yue Lian.

Yue Lian stumbled back in alarm, caught by Shi Feng’s chilling stare.

The atmosphere grew instantly heavy with tension.

Healer Ye finally brought his wooden staff down onto the ground with a resounding thud.

"Silence!" he bellowed, his voice filled with fury.

An immediate hush fell over the crowd. The old healer’s face had flushed crimson with anger as he glared intently at Yue Lian.

"If you persist in causing such a scene before me, then be gone at once!" he commanded sternly. "My apprentice will clarify everything. If you refuse to listen, then depart and continue to indulge in your own delusions!"

His sharp gaze then shifted to Lang Chi.

"And you," the old healer admonished. "Keep your female in check instead of allowing her to wail like this!"

Lang Chi’s face instantly flushed with embarrassment.

The old healer clearly had more to say.

"You useless males only lament the lack of cubs!" he scolded loudly. "If your own fertility is compromised, how can you expect to sire healthy offspring? Are you intending to ruin innocent lives?!"

Several beastmen in the vicinity abruptly lowered their heads, visibly awkward from the public reprimand.

Yue Lian’s complexion had turned deathly pale.

Su Qinglan finally turned her calm gaze towards Yue Lian, speaking deliberately.

"The reason you are unable to conceive," she declared composedly, "is because your womb suffered damage a significant time ago."

A palpable shockwave rippled through the air.

Yue Lian’s body convulsed violently, her eyes widening in sheer horror.

"How... how could you possibly know..." she stammered, the words escaping unintentionally.
