As the commotion finally subsided, Su Qinglan gradually regained her composure. Wiping away the last traces of tears, she raised her gaze to her four towering husbands.
All of them were conspicuously attempting to conceal their red-rimmed eyes. Some averted their faces, while others vigorously rubbed their eyes as if battling an irritant.
Su Qinglan’s heart felt an even greater pang. She studied them and inquired softly, "Why are you all crying? It's all in the past now."
The five men quickly shifted their gazes away.
Hu Yan cleared his throat, his voice hoarse. "Who's crying? We aren't shedding any tears."
Shi Feng turned his head aside. "It's just sand in my eyes; nothing more."
Xuan Long managed a languid smile, though his voice was undeniably thick with emotion. "Lan Lan, you must be mistaken."
Han Jue rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes still visibly red. "We are perfectly fine. Truly."
Su Qinglan observed each of them. Her heart melted entirely. These formidable, proud beastmen were making such an effort to hide their tears for her. A complex mixture of sweetness and sorrow filled her.
Wang Mulan watched the unfolding scene with tender eyes. She leaned towards Su Mingxuan and whispered, "You chose exceptionally well for our daughter's husbands. They are all truly good men."
Su Mingxuan beamed with pride, his own eyes still slightly moist. "At least this is one decision I got right," he declared with evident satisfaction.
Wang Mulan felt a significant sense of relief.
Observing how her daughter's husbands encircled and protected her, the heavy burden of worry on her heart finally began to lift.
She knew that even when she and Su Mingxuan were absent, these men would guard Qinglan with their very lives. Each possessed admirable character and cherished their daughter profoundly. This was more than enough.
At that precise moment, a knock echoed from beyond the gate.
"Brother Shi Feng, are you here?"
Shi Feng's eyes widened. It was his brother's voice. He glanced towards the door and responded, "I'll go see why he's here."
Before he could take more than a few steps, other voices and approaching footsteps became audible. Shi Feng proceeded outside and beheld Bai Ling approaching, accompanied by Lan Lan's three cubs and her own two youngsters trailing close behind.
The esteemed old healer from Dragon Beast City accompanied them, a medicine pouch in hand.
Bai Ling's face lit up with a bright smile upon spotting Shi Feng. "Brother Shi Feng, we couldn't locate all of you at the main residence, so we came here. The healer has prepared a special tonic for Sister Qinglan. You should take it..."
"I am well. There is no need for medicine," Su Qinglan's voice suddenly cut through the air as she emerged.
Bai Ling whirled around instantly. The moment her eyes landed on Su Qinglan, standing healthy and full of vigor, they widened with astonished joy.
"Qinglan! You've finally awakened!" Bai Ling exclaimed with delight. She hurried forward, embracing Su Qinglan in a tight hug.
Su Qinglan returned the embrace, gently stroking Bai Ling's back. "I apologize for causing everyone such concern."
Bai Ling quickly shook her head. "There's no need to apologize! It wasn't your fault at all that you fell unconscious!"
Su Qinglan offered a slight smile, yet inwardly mused, 'Actually... it was partly my doing.'
The old healer, who had been standing behind, unexpectedly pushed Bai Ling aside with a surprising surge of strength for his age. He scrutinized Su Qinglan from head to toe, his expression a mixture of shock and bewilderment.
Su Qinglan also recognized him. Was this not the same old healer she had encountered previously?
The old healer stroked his long white beard, his eyes narrowing. "This female... your life force was nearly extinguished, hovering on the brink of death. Yet here you stand, brimming with vitality! What exactly are you?"
Su Qinglan blinked in surprise for a moment, then erupted into laughter. "Esteemed old healer, what am I? Can you not see? I am a female."
The old healer's face flushed crimson with indignation. He stomped his foot emphatically.
"I am not blind! Of course, I can see you are a female! But how is this remotely possible?!" he roared, gesticulating wildly.
"Your life force vanished with such rapidity, and now it has returned, stronger than ever before! You appear healthier than anyone present! No one would ever believe you were unconscious mere moments ago!"
He stroked his beard once more, appearing profoundly contemplative. "What sort of mystical technique is this? Reveal it to this old man this instant!"
Su Qinglan smiled wryly. She genuinely dared not disclose the secret of her dual cultivation.
"Old healer, I truly do not know. I simply lost consciousness and then awoke feeling remarkably well. You are making it sound like some grand accomplishment."
The old healer's eyes widened further. He pointed a trembling finger at her. "You female! You truly refuse to impart the truth?!" he demanded, his expression alight with anger.
"This old man has lived for countless years and has never encountered such an astonishing anomaly! My aged heart cannot withstand such profound shocks!"
Su Qinglan offered a sheepish touch to her nose, perceiving the old man's unwavering and theatrical persistence.
Abruptly shifting the conversation, the old healer inquired, "Very well! If that topic is off-limits, tell me this instead... I heard you assisted a certain woman in Dragon Beast City with the delivery of a remarkably large polar bear cub! How did you manage such a feat? Both the mother and cub were saved due to your intervention. Speak plainly!"
Su Qinglan understood he was referring to the challenging childbirth she had facilitated. Noticing the glint of intense curiosity in the old healer's eyes, she could only let out a soft sigh.
"Wouldn't it be better if you came inside and sat down first, Old Healer?" she proposed politely. "I will recount every detail of what transpired."
The old healer emitted a loud huff, his grumpiness still palpable. "At last, a sensible person! In this current generation, this old man has been standing for so long that my back is practically rigid!" he grumbled as he stepped inside.
A touch of embarrassment colored Su Qinglan's cheeks. She genuinely regretted not offering him a seat sooner.
