Alden defeated the final dragon contestant, a transformed woman, with a surprise attack from Aemirya and a powerful strike from himself. As the ceremony concluded, a portal to the Dragon Empire opened, and Aemirya, using her spatial abilities, opened a second portal for Alden. After a formal farewell, Aemirya departed through the Dragon Empire portal, leaving Alden alone with the portal to his unknown destination.

Aemirya stepped out of the portal as a clear blue sky greeted her, the sudden sunlight blinding her for a brief moment.

Two white wings unfurled behind her almost instinctively. She hovered in the air for a few moments before lowering her gaze.

Below lay a massive arena with countless dragons filling the audience stands, their attention fixed upon her.

And seated upon a throne overlooking the arena was an incredibly beautiful woman with pale skin, crimson eyes, and hair as white as the moon itself.

She was Aemirya’s grandmother.

The Dragon Queen, Bazooka.

Even as Aemirya descended as the victor of the sacred coming-of-age ceremony, the Dragon Queen’s expression never changed.

The same detached boredom remained on her face as though the return of her own granddaughter... meant nothing at all.

Aemirya landed at the center of the arena as the victor. She had never expected praise. But she had at least expected the other dragons to look at her differently.

Even if they didn’t respect her, she had expected them to at least acknowledge her victory, no matter how she had achieved it.

But instead...

The only thing that greeted her ears were the voices of the dragon nobles.

"How could that filth even win?"

"That has to be a mistake."

"She must have cheated somehow."

"What can we expect from someone carrying the blood of a filthy human?"

"Why is she even still alive?"

"She should have been hanged like her mother."

A scoff escaped Aemirya’s lips.

Sharing what happened within the sacred coming-of-age ceremony, including who eliminated whom, was strictly forbidden. So she had expected not a single dragon she had eliminated to reveal the methods she had used.

And it seemed she had been right.

But what she hadn’t accounted for...

...was just how deeply they hated her.

She was the only dragon in the entire world carrying the blood of a human. Most who shared such a bloodline were killed long before they ever reached maturity.

So even if her methods remained a secret...

She was still nothing more than a fraud in their eyes.

Before she could even say anything, chains burst from the ground, wrapping tightly around her body as four knights seized the other ends.

"What is the meaning of this?"

She demanded, her voice cold.

As despicable as they were, even she hadn’t expected them to resort to something like this.

A handsome man with long white hair, crimson eyes, two obsidian horns, and a face strikingly similar to Vareth’s stepped forward.

His body radiated the oppressive aura of an Overlord.

He was Aemirya’s eldest uncle, the father of Vareth and the twin brother of her own mother.

Vlad Vael’Zyre.

"Aemirya Vael’Zyre, daughter of Arza Vael’Zyre and granddaughter of the Great Dragon Queen, Bazooka. On suspicion of fraud and cheating during the sacred coming-of-age ceremony, you are hereby detained for an investigation into your crimes."

"What crimes do you speak of, Uncle? And what evidence do you possess to support such accusations? Or are you simply so immature that you no longer care about procedures merely because your son was eliminated before me?"

She met his gaze without the slightest fear.

"Has the Dragon Queen granted you permission for this?"

Her eyes drifted toward the throne where the Dragon Queen remained seated. Not a trace of emotion crossed her face as if she neither cared what was happening nor for what would happen next.

Vlad’s face twitched with restrained anger.

He clearly didn’t enjoy being spoken to like that by the half-blooded filth born from his own sister.

Still, he suppressed his fury.

Although revealing the events of the coming-of-age ceremony was forbidden, Vareth had privately told him about the mysterious human who had helped Aemirya.

He couldn’t reveal that truth before the Dragon Elders or the Dragon Queen as doing so would not only earn Vareth punishment for breaking the ceremony’s rules...

Not to mention the mere fact that his son had been defeated by a mere human and a half-blood was enough to completely destroy their reputation.

How could either of them show their faces if such a disgrace became public?

So he chose another path.

He would detain Aemirya and force a confession from her in private before the Dragon Queen... Or perhaps dispose of her before any investigation could reach its conclusion.

His plan was flawless.

And he was certain of one thing. Now that Aemirya had already completed her coming of age, his mother, the Dragon Queen, would never care enough about this half-blood to stop him since the contract made with his sister lasted only till this point in some ways.

The knights pulled Aemirya from all directions as she finally understood one thing.

Even if her uncle hadn’t done this, someone else eventually would have.

She had spent her entire life chasing their acknowledgment, hoping to one day be accepted as one of them despite the fact that they had executed her mother.

She had buried her anger, suppressed her hatred and endured every insult with the fragile hope that if she became a dragon worthy of their respect, they would finally leave her alone.

Then...

Perhaps she could search for her father, perhaps she could finally be free.

But it had all been meaningless.

Her desperation, her hopes, the anger she had forced herself to swallow for years and every last bit of it, had been completely pointless.

She was never meant to be free.

As that realization settled in, her gaze drifted toward the portal to the sacred grounds, which still shimmered above her in the sky as a single thought crossed her mind.

She had wanted to leave with him, she had considered to be free, to wander the world searching for her father and for whatever adventures awaited them.

But she knew, if she ran away like that, she would have been hunted as a criminal like her mother before being executed.

So, instead, she had returned here, clinging to fragile hopes of being free that had been shattered the moment she stepped through the portal.

Just as the knights were about to drag her away, something in the air shifted as someone shot out of the portal to the sacred grounds.

At first, it was nothing more than a tiny silhouette falling from the sky.

...

A human.

The very next instant, a massive eclipse swallowed the heavens, plunging the world into darkness for a fleeting moment as a deafening voice echoed across the entire arena.

"I, LORD BOOMBOOM, HAVE COME TO KIDNAP YOU, DRAGON PRINCESS!"
