Elayne distributed a few Blood Fruits among the brave few who wanted to change who they were. Still, the vast majority did not seem eager to turn into Treants or Dryads. Many remained skeptical and chose to stay behind, watching from a safe distance with mixed expressions of curiosity and caution.
The ones who stepped forward were four skeletons and two zombies. The results were almost instant. The moment they bit into the fruits, living wood began to grow from their chests and rapidly spread across their bodies in thick, pulsing vines.
Under Elayne’s careful order, the parasitic energy fused with the host rather than devouring them from the inside out. This was how people could safely turn into either Blood Treants or Blood Dryads.
It was... similar to how Vampires turned others, granting them a secondary race along with new power. The process was amazingly smooth under her control.
"Wow, this is amazing!" One of the skeletons, a former Human Adventurer named Luck, raised his arms high as the wood grew around his entire body, covering him completely like a suit of heavy living armor. "I feel much stronger now...! My bones don’t feel so empty anymore!"
"E-Eh?" The second skeleton, a former half-elf girl named Alfi, became a Blood Dryad. Her wooden form turned very beautiful and curvy, with long leafy red hair cascading down her back. She ran her new wooden fingers through the leaves in wonder. "W-Wow...! Do I look good? I feel... softer somehow."
As for the two zombies, they also gained secondary races. One of them became a Blood Dryad and grew noticeably more beautiful and curvaceous, her rotting flesh replaced by smooth, living bark that still carried a faint reddish glow. The other became a Blood Treant, his body expanding into a towering giant of thick wood and roots.
"It’s amazing! We get a second race too! And my stats rose so much!" the female zombie, a former dog beast-woman named Bei, said while flexing her new arms. "Incredible... I feel kind of alive again, don’t you think? Like my heart is beating for the first time in ages."
"Yeah," nodded the other zombie, a former orc who had once been the architect of the city. His deep voice carried clear wonder. "I can feel life flowing through me again... the wood is warm. Amazing!"
Elayne smiled warmly, feeling genuinely happy that everyone who had taken the fruit was enjoying the benefits and gaining great power from the transformation. Their excited voices and newfound strength filled her with a quiet sense of satisfaction.
As the rest of the undead crowd witnessed the successful changes, they became more reassured and excited. Several began stepping forward, clearly wanting to try the fruit as well. Elayne quickly raised a hand and stopped them.
"S-Sorry, I feel very tired," she explained, her voice carrying real exhaustion. "This fruit drains my own lifeforce each time I create one. I need to gather more energy and perhaps eat a lot myself. I am alive now, so... I actually feel hunger for the first time in a long while..." She gave a soft, slightly embarrassed laugh. "I will later choose which ones are better suited for the fruit’s powers and distribute them accordingly!"
Some of the waiting undead looked disappointed and a little sad, but they agreed in the end, nodding with understanding. Elayne sighed in relief and turned away. She walked back home with slower steps than usual, the weight of the day’s efforts settling into her new living body.
With the help of Blank, Mark, and Sailor, she repaired the damaged parts of her house. They worked together efficiently — Blank reinforcing the walls with precise shadow constructs, Mark lifting heavy beams with easy strength, and Sailor carefully sealing the roof. The familiar teamwork helped ease some of the fatigue she felt.
Once the repairs were finished, she entered the house and sat down to have lunch together with everyone else. The simple meal of warm food tasted richer than she expected, and the quiet conversation around the table helped her mind settle.
Feeling more refreshed afterward, she began to slowly grow more accustomed to her new living form and the abilities that came with it. The sensation of a beating heart and the need for actual food still felt strange, but not unwelcome.
Later that afternoon she created a few more Blood Fruits and carefully fed them to Granny Yaga. To everyone’s surprise, the old witch began regaining her youth as she ate them. Wrinkles smoothed, her posture straightened, and a healthy color returned to her skin. Granny Yaga touched her face in quiet astonishment, eyes glistening with emotion at the unexpected change.
"I look like half my age now!" the woman exclaimed, turning her face from side to side in front of a polished metal plate that served as a mirror. Her wrinkles had softened dramatically, and her skin glowed with renewed vitality. She truly looked as though she had returned to her fifties. "T-This is amazing! Aren’t I a beauty?"
"You’re very pretty, haha," Elayne nodded with a kind and genuine smile, pleased to see the fruit’s restorative power working so clearly.
"Hmph, don’t waste all your fruits on that old woman, Elayne," Blank muttered, a clear note of jealousy in his voice. He crossed his arms and looked away. "Save them to create new, strong soldiers... I will also try to find a way I can benefit from it myself. Perhaps... maybe if I turn myself into—"
"No, don’t. It’s not necessary to go THAT far, okay?" Elayne sighed softly and placed a calming hand on his shoulder. She understood his eagerness, but some ideas were better left unexplored for now. "Anyway, I’m wondering if Lisette is alright... Granny Yaga, did you see the boy? How’s he doing?"
"He’s quite alright," Yaga nodded with her usual gruff reassurance. "Got hit by a lot during the fight. That damn Jester scared him half to death, but he’s recovering steadily. He’ll be up and moving in no time. Maybe if we feed him one of your special fruits, he’ll bounce back even faster."
"Right!" Elayne nodded with renewed energy. "Let’s make him a fruit puree to go with his meals. Something gentle and easy to digest."
Without wasting another moment, Elayne moved to the small cooking area and began preparing a soft puree from one of the restorative fruits. She mashed it carefully, mixing in a bit of warm water and a touch of honey for taste, then carried the bowl to the quiet room where little Lisette rested.
Little Hope was already there, floating gently beside the boy’s bed. The small skeleton ghost and core of the Domain had grown a strong, almost sibling-like friendship with Lisette ever since the boy joined their group. She entertained him with soft stories and playful movements of her ethereal form, keeping his spirits high while he recovered.
Upon learning about the fruit’s remarkable powers, Little Hope instantly claimed a small piece for herself and ate it without hesitation. A soft glow passed over her spectral body as she gained the Blood Dryad Race and absorbed several fragments of pure lifeforce. She immediately floated higher, looking more energetic and lively than ever before.
Lisette slowly ate the puree spoonful by spoonful. Color gradually returned to his cheeks, and the tension in his small body eased. Before long he drifted into a deep, peaceful sleep. Elayne could tell with a single glance that he would wake up the next morning feeling completely renewed.
"Alright... it’s still too early to go to sleep, and I want to test my new abilities properly," Elayne said as she stepped out of the room with Little Hope floating happily at her side. She raised her voice so the others could hear her clearly. "Everyone! Let’s form a group. We’ll go explore outside and head to the Dungeon we originally agreed on visiting. I want to see if we can finally find the Second Lost Forge of Hephaestus. Ignis, you’ll guide us, right?"
"Sure! About time!" Ignis answered with bright enthusiasm, already bouncing on his heels. "Let’s do this!"
Elayne’s mind was already racing with plans. She intended to accomplish a great deal today. Testing her newly gained abilities and racial powers was only the beginning. If the monsters inside the dungeon proved strong enough, she might even push herself all the way to max level before the day ended.
The group began gathering their gear with growing excitement, ready to step once more into the unknown dangers waiting beyond the safety of their temporary home.
