After hearing Harumi’s resolve, her aunt, Lady Shadow, crossed her arms and let out a loud sigh.
"Fine..." Lady Shadow said, narrowing her eyes. "Let’s move. Things are only getting more chaotic while we waste time talking nonsense."
"I agree!" said the leader of the three werewolves, a tall silver‑haired wolf and one of Harumi’s relatives. He looked tense. "To honor the Pact made by Frank, we’ll work together."
"Wow, that guy really is important, huh?" Elisa muttered. "Well, whatever the case, let’s get out of here!"
"Yeah, I’m already pissing myself, let’s go!" Anna said, trembling.
"Let’s move," Monica nodded.
"..."
But as everyone started moving, Elena remained still, staring toward the direction where her mother was fighting.
"Elena?" Elisa looked back as the others began to mobilize.
"What’s wrong?" Anna asked.
"I can’t... I can’t leave without my mom," Elena said. "Something sinister just possessed her, and I can’t leave her there. I have to save her."
"What?! But it’s dangerous!" Anna said. "A‑And your mom is super strong! She’ll be fine!"
"No she won’t!" Elena cried. "Don’t you remember what happened a year ago? How she died for us? I won’t let that happen again. It was because I was weak. Because we were all weak. And now... no. Never. I will never let that happen again. Do you hear me? Never!"
"E‑Elena, calm down..." Anna whispered, lowering her gaze. "I understand... so at least let me go with you."
"No. You should go with them, it’s dangerous," Elena said.
"I can’t. I’d rather risk my life here with you than leave your side and find out something happened to you later," Anna said, stepping beside her.
"Are you two coming or what?" Elisa sighed.
"E‑Eh?! What’s happening?" Monica asked.
"I’m going with Elena to save her mom," Anna said. "You girls should stay behind."
"Are you crazy?!" Elisa snapped. "You’re all going to die!"
"But we have to save Mom, and I’m not going without her," Elena said.
"Ugh..." Elisa groaned. "Fine. I’m going too."
Monica looked at everyone, then nodded. "Me too! I want to save her as well!"
"W‑What?! No! Go away! This is too dangerous!" Elena said.
"And so what? We’ve gone through worse!" Elisa said.
"Y‑Yeah!" Monica nodded. "And you can’t do anything without us... hehe."
"It’s like that," Anna agreed. "We’re not going anywhere without you, Elena."
Elena sighed and facepalmed. "Fine... but— Ah!"
A giant Nightmare resembling a golem made of buildings rushed at them, roaring while vomiting black miasma everywhere.
The giant stomped down, shattering the ground and threatening to crush them.
Or that’s what would have happened, if someone hadn’t blocked the blow with thunderous armor.
"Emily?!"
"Hey girls, what the hell are you doing? Get moving! Are you going to save Elayne‑sensei or not?!" Emily shouted, her armor charging with energy as it absorbed the impact. "Because if you are, I’m going with you!"
Her fist surged with electricity, blasting through the Nightmare’s body as a massive serpentine dragon made of thunder pierced the giant and tore it apart.
The Nightmare exploded, but quickly began reforming into smaller giants made of buildings, spreading forests of concrete everywhere.
As it roared, a flashing figure arrived. A large automata, thin and metallic, like a golden and silver mannequin, descended. It suddenly grew dozens of times larger, smashing the Nightmare fragments with sharp metallic hands before firing beams of light in every direction.
"Are you girls suicidal? Get out of here and let us Dream Warriors handle this. You aren’t qualified to fight Nightmares properly," Sofia said, stepping forward with her usual arrogance. "Without Dream Weapons, Armor, or Spirits, you’ll always be weaker than them."
"Well sorry? We had no idea there was a whole system around this, Sofia. We just found out today!" Anna snapped.
"Sorry," Elena said. "And thanks for the help."
"Where are you going?" Alma asked as she descended, riding a serpent made of water. Dozens of similar serpents were killing Nightmares behind her.
"I bet they want to save Elayne‑sensei. She’s missing or... gone insane, I don’t know," Maria said as she flew down. An army of Undead surged from her shadows, tearing through nearby monsters. "I can feel her presence. Do you want us to take you to her?"
"Really?!" Monica asked. "T‑That would be amazing!"
"Huh? And why would we do that, Maria?" Sofia asked, raising an eyebrow. "We’re already busy dealing with this Nightmare outbreak. The Nightmare Rift in the sky isn’t close, Nightmare Demon presences are stronger than ever, and I just sensed what might be a Fragment of the Original Nightmare Curse here. It must be the one that caused all of this!"
"Nightmare Demons? Fragment?" Elena asked. "You girls only bumped into us by accident... right?"
The Dream Warriors exchanged looks, then sighed, glaring at Sofia after realizing she had revealed something confidential.
"The exchange student thing is real, but we were also given a mission by the Dream Warrior Academy," Maria explained quickly. "Japan has become an epicenter for Nightmare‑related disasters. Nightmare Dungeons have started spawning more often than anywhere else, so we were sent to investigate."
"They sent four students to do that?" Elisa asked.
"We’re actually graduates," Alma said with a nervous giggle. "We’re all twenty, but I guess we look pretty young."
"W‑What?! Wow, okay," Anna muttered.
"We’re the best students of the academy, or at least the best available," Sofia said. "There are a few others, especially a Chinese guy and that blondie, but they’re busy dealing with the Nightmare Field that broke out in Germany."
"Again talking about things that are supposed to be confidential?" Emily sighed.
"Ah, damn it..." Sofia muttered, covering her mouth.
"Whatever the case, we’ll help," Maria said with a smile. "We’re friends, and you girls helped us survive back then."
"Thank you. We’ll owe you a big one later," Elena said with a nod.
"Alright then!" Emily said as more Nightmare Monsters resembling giant black octopuses with red eyes approached. "Looks like those are spawns of the Original Nightmare Curse’s Fragment. Is he trying to kill us?"
"He probably detected us, but I can’t sense where he is. He’s hiding his presence," Sofia said.
