"Isn’t this incredibly exciting, Alice?!" Kireina’s laughter rang out. "Hahaha— Oh, stop making that face! Why are you looking at me like that?!"
Alice stood beside her cousin, sweat beading on her brow. She had always harbored a secret fear of Kireina’s unpredictable madness and her power, which vastly overshadowed her own. While Alice pursued the end of humanity with a chilling logic, Kireina remained an untamable force, a true enigma. "It’s nothing, cousin... I’m simply not convinced this is wise. That wretched goddess has only grown more powerful. Is this truly a beneficial turn of events?"
"Aw, you’re such a bore," Kireina sighed, crossing her legs casually. "Hmm? Oh, it appears something is approaching. I wonder what it could possibly be?!"
Alice’s eyes snapped open wide, her brows furrowing instantly as the sky above the structure fractured and began to tear apart. "A Gate?! Now?! Why at this particular moment...?"
"It’s that girl, remember her? The one who absconded with our aunt’s heroic spirit... She has arrived to obliterate. Another formidable player is poised to enter the fray... Isn't this just magnificent?!" Kireina cackled gleefully. "And... oopsie. We might have inadvertently accelerated the timeline a touch, wouldn't you agree, Foreigner?"
"My apologies," Foreigner responded, standing beside her.
"Nah, nah, don’t give it another thought," Kireina said, patting his shoulder. "Errors are natural. None of us here are flawless, are we? And sometimes... these minor missteps can evolve into truly wondrous outcomes. Don’t you think so, Alice?"
A sinister smile spread across Kireina’s face as Alice watched a monstrous aberration materialize, its presence looming from the other side. Glowing crimson eyes fixed forward, while coiling black tentacles slowly descended into the world.
A pervasive black mist unfurled, transforming the heavens into a horrifying tableau. Unfortunate souls caught in its proximity began to choke and falter, succumbing to the encroaching darkness.
The tenebrous vapor breached the protective ward meticulously erected by Amaterasu’s kin. It infiltrated the populace, twisting their most profound desires, compelling their hearts to calcify and fracture. Sable roses, born of shadow, unfurled from the desolation, warping the very fabric of existence.
Their physical forms contorted grotesquely before detonating, birthing miniature pocket dimensions drawn from the essence of their very souls and deepest traumas... from their most harrowing nightmares.
"Don’t you just adore the spectacle? I seem to recall you wishing for humanity’s demise," Kireina remarked, a wide grin plastered on her face. "I have fulfilled your desire! Because my love for you knows no bounds, Alice! Come over here for a big, warm embrace!"
"I-I’m alright, thank you..." Alice mumbled, declining the offer.
"Sheesh! You see, Foreigner?" Kireina sighed dramatically, folding her arms. "You exert yourself to do everything for them, and they won’t even bestow upon you a simple, cost-free hug! Relatives can be so incredibly demanding!"
Disregarding Kireina’s whimsical monologue, Alice and Avenger fixed their gazes upon the widespread devastation unfolding before them. The very fabric of space continued its relentless distortion.
"Master, while the view is not entirely displeasing, what precisely is your cousin’s ultimate objective with all of this?" Avenger clicked his tongue, a hint of envy coloring his tone. "The Gates of the Demon King of Death, Caster’s Canvas Bleed... and now this?! Where is the opportunity for me to truly stand out with so many chaotic entities rampant? And that’s not even accounting for Tartarus relentlessly expanding her influence everywhere..."
"I believe... I might have an inkling of her intention," Alice replied. She sensed the stirrings of several potent entities beginning to mobilize towards the area, both within and surrounding the protective barrier. "She aims to orchestrate a grand battle royale. All this pandemonium... it serves merely as an enticement for Them."
"Them?" Avenger inquired.
"The other contenders in the Holy War... and, naturally, Tokyo’s most formidable protectors," Alice murmured, swallowing with evident difficulty. However, her apprehensive expression gradually softened into a faint smile. "Heh... Well... perhaps this will indeed prove to be an amusing spectacle after all."
Kireina watched with a smile as Alice began to embrace the unfolding chaos. Yet, her mirth was abruptly cut short when a cerulean portal, reminiscent of an ancient castle's entryway, materialized behind her.
A resonant voice boomed forth from the gateway. A towering, demon-like figure emerged, cloaked in palpable nightmare essence and emanating overwhelming might. Majestic black horns adorned his brow, his pallid gray skin starkly contrasted with sharp, red-blue eyes, and a cascade of long, white hair lent him an air of regal authority. Accompanying him were several other demons, advancing like a somber retinue.
"Oh! The Nightmare Demon King! I have been anticipating your arrival!" Kireina exclaimed with delight. "Do you find it to your liking? I have finally unleashed one of the Fragments of the Original Nightmare Curse, precisely as we concerted!"
"This deviates significantly from our accord!" the Nightmare Demon King bellowed in response. "That entity was slated to manifest within Nightmare Castle—the domain we are currently constructing at the planet’s core—not upon the surface world! How do you possibly expect us to transport such a being with us now?!"
A momentary silence ensued from Kireina, her gaze fixed upon him with an unreadable expression as she casually consumed a snack. "Um..." She swallowed, affecting an air of pure innocence.
Then, her demeanor abruptly shifted.
The presence of Kireina intensified, causing the Nightmare Demon King and his family to instinctively fall to their knees. Her eyes blazed with a blood-red light, and her visage began to fracture, resembling shattered glass that unveiled an unending chasm of darkness beneath.
"This arrangement was agreed upon, and you neglected to specify the method of execution," Kireina declared, her voice a low, menacing rumble. The fabric of reality itself seemed to contort around her as she loomed, a colossal figure embodying pure chaos. "You ought to be thankful I even deigned to acknowledge you, vermin."
"A-Ah...! Y-Yes... I misspoke... Kindly forgive me, Princess of Chaos..." the Nightmare Demon King stammered, his throat dry. Abruptly, a dark, sanguine aura emanated from below. "Huh? E-Excuse me, what is that?!"
"Hmmmm?" Kireina glanced downwards. "Ahhh! That's our latest project! We managed to lure Noah by promising him the Holy Grail with ease and... pffff...! Can you believe the fool actually fell for it?! He battled a goddess, only to be sealed within her... and it turns out the goddess herself became corrupted?! Hahahahaha! It's just too hilarious!"
"...?!"
"...!"
"...?"
A wave of panic washed over the Nightmare Demons, who forced expressions of awkward, ludicrous smiles and launched into nervous laughter.
"H-Hahahaha! Yes, it's... r-really amusing!"
Foreigner narrowed his crimson eyes, scrutinizing their disingenuous visages.
"Master, I often ponder this... Why do you surround yourself with such insincere individuals?"
Kireina turned her gaze back towards him, a warm smile gracing her features. "Well, not everyone is fake. You are remarkably genuine, and that is precisely what I adore about you, Howard."
"...! Indeed, I merely articulate what I perceive as the truth. I would sooner embrace death than ever feign sincerity to myself or to the world."
"Yes, yes, I understand," Kireina chuckled. "Shall we bask in the unfolding spectacle? Many events are poised to transpire now... Fufufu!"
