Su Yan agrees to postpone her official return to the Yue family until Old Master Yue's birthday to avoid gossip. After a brief stay, she returns to Jiang Du, only to be met with rumors of a marriage to Yue Chuang. Back at work, Su Yan rejects a meeting with the founder of Fun App and decides to attend Jian Xin Technology Company's anniversary celebration.

Su Yan offered a smile. “Xiao Xiao, it has been quite challenging for you to manage the household. Could you please assist me by boiling a pot of hot water?”

Xiao Xiao responded, “I am delighted to be of service to you.”

..

The following day, Su Yan had just stirred from sleep when she encountered a wealth of intriguing news online. One particular item pertained to Wei Shani. Word had it that Excellent Era Corporation had officially declared its withdrawal of investments from several large and medium-sized businesses within Jiang Du. Wang Xiaoxue informed Su Yan that these businesses, from which investments were being pulled, belonged to Wei Shani’s close associates within the socialite circles of Jiang Du. While investment withdrawal itself was not inherently unusual, the timing, occurring shortly after Wei Zhou had expelled Mrs. Wei from the Wei family, lent the situation a particularly noteworthy flavor.

Su Yan’s schedule was exceptionally demanding today. A routine meeting occupied her morning, and three critical segments of an investment proposal required her careful consideration. The investigation report from Penang had also been released, yet she lacked the time to peruse it due to a continuous string of meetings spanning the entire day. Numerous matters necessitated her signature and decisive action, a rigorous pace that was slated to persist for an entire week. Only then would she be able to clear the backlog of work that had accumulated during her trip to Xiang City.

On this particular day, Su Yan's agenda was relatively light. The weather outside was bright and sunny, prompting her to drive over to Dragon Emperor Entertainment. It had been more than half a month since her last visit. To her mild surprise, she found Tang Yitong present, despite Tang Yitong being scheduled to be filming for an endorsement. After a brief conversation with Tang Yitong, Su Yan learned that Dragon Emperor Entertainment harbored ambitions to cultivate two additional singers within the next couple of years, aiming to secure a more significant stake in the music industry. Consequently, Tang Yitong had rushed back to the company shortly after concluding her morning shoot. Her purpose was to confer with Dragon Emperor Entertainment's music director and subsequently identify potential trainees from the novice camp for development.

Upon witnessing Su Yan push open the door and step inside, Tang Yitong exclaimed with enthusiasm, “Little Yan Yan, mwah! You haven’t seen me for such ages. Do you miss me terribly? Hurry, let me plant a kiss on you!”

With that declaration, she propelled herself towards Su Yan, reminiscent of an arrow released from a bow. Fortunately, Su Yan had grown accustomed to these effusive greetings. She quickly intercepted Tang Yitong’s advancing lips. “Must you be so… dramatic? You want to kiss me the very instant you see me.”

Denied her intended kiss, Tang Yitong instead clasped Su Yan’s hand and playfully nipped at it. She then declared contentedly, “I missed you immensely.”

Su Yan responded with feigned disdain, “Are you perhaps thinking about money?”

Caught red-handed, Tang Yitong adopted a wronged expression. “What are you implying? Do I truly covet money to such an extent? Nevertheless, I wouldn’t refuse it. While I do miss you, there is indeed a reason for this visit.”

Su Yan chuckled, a knowing glint in her eyes. “I knew it. Tell me, what is it?”

Tang Yitong let out a soft laugh. “You are my dearest confidante. Surely you wouldn’t turn me down, would you?”

Su Yan arched an eyebrow. “You’re the one making assumptions, not me. Why don’t you tell me what’s on your mind first? Perhaps I’ll refuse you on the spot if I’m not in the mood.”

Tang Yitong found herself momentarily at a loss for words.

Several minutes later, Su Yan finally grasped the full extent of Tang Yitong’s request. It transpired that Tang Yitong had accepted an offer to participate in a highly popular variety show, which, by its nature, was a challenging competition. Each stage presented a rigorous test of both intellect and physical stamina. While the challenges themselves might not pose significant difficulty for Tang Yitong, this particular program had a unique requirement: the participating celebrity guest had to bring along a friend.

Following this explanation, her manager, Shen Ling, entered the room, even proceeding to hand a copy of the variety show contract to Su Yan. It was at this precise moment that Su Yan truly understood the situation. After all this time, Tang Yitong and Shen Ling had already finalized arrangements and even prepared a contract for her imprint, implying that Tang Yitong intended for her to be her companion on the show.

Su Yan’s rejection was swift and unequivocal. “Don’t hand that to me. I am not going.”

Tang Yitong immediately adopted a theatrical pose of sorrow. “Sob, sob, sob, sob! You are my one and only true friend. If you refuse to join me for the show recording, I will undoubtedly be subjected to ridicule. Do you honestly possess the heart to let me face such torment alone?”

Su Yan raised her eyebrows again. “You are certainly in the correct profession. This dramatic crying performance appears and disappears with such remarkable ease, requiring no apparent preparation.”

Tang Yitong perceived the undertone of mockery in Su Yan’s words once more. However, she recognized that Su Yan’s teasing was permissible, as the contract ultimately required Su Yan’s signature. Seeing that her charade had been detected, she ceased her feigned weeping. With a pleading expression, she implored, “I am genuinely begging you. Surely you cannot be so heartless as to make me compete alone, can you? All the other participants are paired up. I will be utterly overwhelmed! Please, just agree to it!”

Su Yan responded with a wry smile. “Do not fret. You are exceptionally attractive. Even if you were to be bullied, your beauty would remain undiminished. You might even garner sympathy from numerous admirers.”

Since seeing that her agreement wasn't forthcoming, Tang Yitong elected to deploy her ultimate strategy. Clinging fast to Su Yan’s arm, she began to sway it. Su Yan nearly expelled yesterday's supper. "Little Yan Yan, you're absolutely wonderful. Please, just say yes this one time, won't you?"
