Chapter 4 - These Clothes Are So Much Trouble!
“Sir, who are you here to see?” Lin Yi had barely walked a few paces before being halted by the security personnel.
“Oh, hold on. Let me check...” Lin Yi reached into his pocket while reflecting on the city's security measures—back in his hometown, such things definitely didn't exist. To him, these guards didn't look like much; even Er Gouzi from his village could easily beat them all down.
That guy was Lin Yi’s childhood friend. Although he lacked formal kung fu training, his raw strength was enough to kill a mature bull with a single strike. Compared to a bull, these guards were significantly weaker.
Lin Yi extracted a slip of paper and glanced at the name written on it. “I’m looking for Chu Pengzhan.”
“Chu Pengzhan? Who is that? The name sounds familiar...” one of the guards whispered to himself.
“That’s the chairman, you idiot!” The other guard hissed, grabbing his partner’s sleeve to silence him before anyone else could overhear. “What’s wrong with you? Do you want to lose your job?”
“Crap!” The guard’s eyes grew wide with alarm and regret at his senior's reprimand. What kind of security guard was he if he failed to recognize the name of his own employer?
He scrutinized Lin Yi once more, taking note of his attire. Judging by his appearance, this youth didn't seem like someone who would be connected to the chairman. It felt highly improbable that a farmer would have any ties to the man running Pengzhan Industries, a global top 500 corporation.
The boy might just be a random laborer coming to harass the chairman with grievances. At that thought, the guard grew tense, remembering a movie he’d seen a few days prior where a chairman was assaulted by a farmer.
He locked eyes with his partner, and it was clear they were both thinking the exact same thing.
“What is your business with the chairman?” The senior guard questioned, clearing his throat and adopting a stern look, prepared for Lin Yi to strike at any moment.
“Uh... It’s not my business, it’s my old man’s. He sent me here to find him,” Lin Yi answered with a lazy shrug. He didn't care how much influence this client had in the world—after all, the man was the one asking for Lin Yi's assistance.
“Hmm? Your old man?” Lin Yi’s reply only served to validate their doubts. In the movie, the farmer had approached the chairman on behalf of his brother, so it made sense that this farm kid was doing the same for his father.
“...Are you two done talking? Just tell me which floor Chu Pengzhan is on so I can get going, okay?” Lin Yi didn't want to waste any more time on the nonsense these guards were babbling—he wanted to see the client as soon as possible.
“The chairman isn’t in...” The senior guard decided to simply shoo Lin Yi away. He had already concluded that there was no way Lin Yi could have any relationship with the chairman.
Lin Yi was becoming genuinely annoyed by the pair obstructing his path. The disdain in their eyes was obvious, and Lin Yi had reached his limit. These clothes were causing him way too much grief!
“Fine. I’ll just wait for him inside then!” Lin Yi declared, stepping right past the two guards.
“Hold it! You aren't allowed in there!” Both guards shouted in shock, caught off guard by Lin Yi’s sudden move to barge inside.
They were about to restrain him when the elevator doors on the ground floor slid open. An elegantly dressed middle-aged man walked out, followed by a thinner, darker man of similar age.
“It should be time... Why hasn’t Lin Yi gotten in touch with us? Perhaps you should head to the railway station, just to be sure. You’ve seen his photograph,” the well-dressed man instructed his companion.
“Understood, chairman. I’ll head there immediately,” Li Fu replied instantly, his tone full of respect.
Li Fu was preparing to depart when the disturbance at the entrance caught the chairman’s attention. “Wait, Li Fu, go see what’s happening over there first.”
Li Fu took several quick steps toward the door, finding two security guards struggling to hold back a young man. “What is the meaning of this?”
“Mister Fu, this person says he wants to see the chairman and is trying to force his way inside!” The guards recognized Li Fu immediately. While he didn't hold a specific title within the company, he was the chairman’s most loyal confidant. If one had to label his role, he was essentially the chairman’s personal driver.
However, everyone in the firm knew he was far more than a simple driver. Because of this, the security staff treated him with the same respect they gave any executive.
In many cases, this man's words were treated as the chairman's own commands.
Li Fu’s eyes widened as he recognized the young man’s face. “Lin Yi? Is that you, Lin Yi?”
“Yeah, that’s me,” Lin Yi confirmed with a nod. He had been observing the man since he appeared, but his gut told him this wasn't the Chu Pengzhan he was seeking. The man carried himself with dignity and commanded respect, but he lacked the specific aura that powerful leaders usually possessed.
“It is a pleasure to meet you!” Realizing the importance of the youth standing before him, Li Fu stepped forward to offer a handshake without delay. “I am Li Fu, Chairman Chu’s secretary. We didn't realize you had arrived; we were just about to head to the station to pick you up!”
“It’s fine, I wanted to explore the area a bit on my own anyway,” Lin Yi replied, smiling as they shook hands. That was his nature—he would show respect to anyone who showed it to him first. However, Li Fu was being almost too polite.
“The chairman is right over there, let me introduce you. Please, this way.” Li Fu gestured for Lin Yi to follow as they walked back toward Chu Pengzhan.
The two guards from earlier stood frozen, staring at Lin Yi’s retreating back with their mouths hanging open.
“He’s... the chairman’s guest?” The younger guard asked, stunned.
“Mister Fu came to greet him personally, so he must be!” The senior guard sighed in relief. “One more step and we would have offended him. Thank God he arrived before we actually kicked the kid out.”
Lin Yi didn't fail to notice the well-dressed individual standing with Li Fu. This was undoubtedly his client—the head of Pengzhan Industries, Chu Pengzhan.
“You are Lin Yi, I assume?” Chu Pengzhan walked toward them with long strides the moment he saw them approaching. Wearing a smile, he reached out his right hand.
