Su Ping returns to the Heart of Woods breeding base after graduating from high school and awakening his Beast Taming potential. While he possesses the unique Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas, he finds the breeding facility completely empty upon arrival. A note left by his father reveals that he has left for an urgent personal matter, leaving Su Ping in charge of the base and a mysterious first pet beast awaiting him in the hatching room.

Resting within the incubator was a diminutive wolf cub.

Su Ping felt no shock at the sight.

The Heart of Woods was primarily intended for the cultivation of Forest Wolves.

Nevertheless, Su Ping’s brow crinkled almost immediately, as he recognized at a once that this cub was far from a typical Forest Wolf.

Forest Wolves possess a Racial Potential that caps at the Elite Level.

In the world of Blue Star, resources, Beast Tamers, and Pet Beasts alike are classified into distinct tiers: Ordinary, Elite, Commander, Monarch, Emperor, Saint, Legend, and Myth.

Every Pet Beast is associated with specific developmental paths and evolutionary methods discovered by seasoned Beast Tamers.

Generally speaking, the Racial Potential identified in a creature prior to evolution represents its ultimate threshold for natural maturation.

Phrased differently, unless one possesses the resources or techniques to force an evolution, a Forest Wolf’s natural ceiling is firmly set at the Elite Level.

Yet, the world is full of anomalies; rarer occurrences like bloodline mutation do exist.

Typically, Forest Wolf cubs exhibit a drab, gray-yellow coat, shifting to a bluish-green hue only as they enter their Growth Period or reach full maturity.

But the creature currently nestled in the feeder was entirely different.

Its entire body shimmered with a vibrant, lush green; to the casual observer, it resembled a delicate jade carving rather than a living being.

Its rounded, obsidian eyes tracked Su Ping, who stood watching from outside the enclosure, as it let out a soft, whimpering sound.

Amused by the creature, Su Ping promptly dialed his father.

“Hello, Su Ping? Are you back at the house?” the exuberant voice of his father, Su Anyong, boomed through the receiver.

“I am. What exactly is the deal with this little wolf?”

Su Ping didn't bother questioning his father’s logic in handing over a cultivation base so casually, nor did he dwell on his father’s sudden departure to pursue a new stepmother.

He had grown accustomed to his old man’s eccentricities over the years.

“Heh heh, do you think I would ever swindle my own flesh and blood? This pup carries a mutated bloodline. Its original Wood Attribute has been refined to incorporate a Poison Attribute. If cultivated properly, it could command both in the future. Someone offered me twelve million for it, but I refused. After all, my son has finally awakened as a Beast Tamer and requires a first Contracted Beast. What is a meager twelve million compared to a father’s deep affection...”

Su Ping ended the call abruptly, though his expression brightened with genuine interest.

While the Poison Attribute lacked the prestige of space, spirit, or time, it remained exceedingly rare.

With that resolve, Su Ping acted without delay. Having watched as most of his graduating peers secured their first Contracted Beast while he remained indecisive, he knew his chance had arrived.

He had been familiar with the Forest Wolf since childhood; a variant with a Poison Attribute was an ideal starting point.

He initiated the Soul Contract, reaching out toward the cub before him.

Though barely born, the little creature offered no resistance.

Within ten minutes, Su Ping opened his eyes to gaze at the small creature.

Behind the incubator's glass, the cub mirrored his action, fixing its eyes upon him.

As their gazes locked, an inexplicable sense of intimacy surged from the depths of their souls.

A Soul Contract represents the most profound connection two beings can share.

As the contract finalized, the cub’s physique subtly surged with new vitality.

This is the fundamental bond connecting a Beast Tamer to their Pet Beast.

The Tamer’s spiritual energy fuels the Pet Beast’s growth, while the Beast’s improvements in Realm, in turn, bolster the Tamer’s own strength through their soul link.

The two are truly synergistic.

Su Ping lifted the wolf from the temperature-controlled unit. Its emerald body felt remarkably soft, though strangely cool, missing the warmth one expects from a living creature.

“Given your coloring, let’s call you Xiao Qing.”

Naming was never his forte. Since his Pet Beasts were unique to him, the name served merely as a label. The little wolf, indifferent to its new title, parted its milky-scented jaws to reply:

“AWOOO... WHIMPER WHIMPER WHIMPER...”

The sound was an awkward, infantile attempt at a bloodline call.

Su Ping offered a soft smile.

Suddenly, he froze.

Deep within his consciousness, the Myriad Spirit Beast Atlas—which had remained dormant since his awakening—began to unfold of its own accord.

With a faint rustling, the pages flipped until it locked onto a specific entry.

The depiction displayed was that of a common, adult Forest Wolf.

Simultaneously, a string of text materialized before Su Ping’s eyes.

[Catalog entry 'Forest Wolf' illuminated. Current Catalog Level: 1. Reward: Eye of Truth acquired.]

[Eye of Truth (Beast Tamer Ability): Enables the user to discern the Race, specific Skills, and Level of Ferocious Beasts and Pet Beasts via spiritual power.]

Before Su Ping could process this, a torrent of data poured into his mind, channeled directly from the Atlas.

Moments later, details scrolled above the head of the cub still in his arms:

[Variant Forest Wolf (Contracted)]

[Attribute: Wood, Poison]

[Current Level: Ordinary First Rank]

[Racial Potential: Elite Tenth Stage]

[Skills: Sunlight Absorption (Beginner)]

Su Ping wasn't shocked that the Forest Wolf entry had unlocked due to the contract, but the nature of the reward left him stunned.

While the Eye of Truth wasn't exactly a legendary talent—frequently appearing alongside Telepathic Communication and Rapid Recovery as a common ability among fifty percent of all Tamers—it was a free upgrade nonetheless.

Su Ping had anticipated that the Atlas rewards would be limited to consumable resources or complex evolution guides.

He never dreamed the first unlocking would grant such a practical and immediate advantage.

With that realization, he continued to stroke Xiao Qing, eager to examine the illuminated entry in the Catalog further.
