Su Ping figures out the rules of the Heavenly Tomb Secret Realm, where undead beings are repeatedly destroyed and reborn, forming black swords. He collects one of these swords, which parts the gray fog, allowing him to advance. He encounters Captain Li and Liang Yifan, learning that the number of beasts in the realm is unusually low.

Li Feng nodded as well.

"Master Su, our thoughts align. Therefore, Liang Yifan and I have mapped out a web-like search route. Using this current gathering point as the center, we’ll fan out like a spider web. Not only will we track down the mastermind behind all this, but we’ll also gather the remaining squad members to coordinate our efforts!

"Based on my findings, the Death Crows summoned by the Night Raven Scarecrow can penetrate deeper into this gray fog. When exploring, we can utilize this to the fullest. We must try our best to secure the next gravestone before every chime of the sword rings out."

Li Feng seemed completely unaffected by the environment, explaining the details meticulously to the three people present.

Zhu Linxin and Liang Yifan understood their captain’s plan. Meanwhile, the Night Raven Scarecrow, a detection-type Pet Beast they had prepared in advance, was on standby, ready to deploy at a moment’s notice.

Truth be told, seeing Li Feng—the captain of the Heavenly Tomb Army—dispelled much of the suffocating oppression that had been lingering in the Heavenly Tomb.

The man before them radiated an immense sense of security and reliability.

Looking down at his mechanical watch, the burly man then shot a quick glance at Liang Yifan and Zhu Linxin before speaking up.

"Alright, it’s almost time. Liang Yifan, return to the previous gravestone and take that Black Sword. As for you, Zhu Linxin, get ready to take the Black Sword condensing at this Heavenly Tomb Point. From now on, this location is designated as the Center Point.

"The other points will be named Direction Node 1 based on the compass, and so on sequentially. Do you all understand?"

"Yes!"

"Move out!"

The young Heavenly Tomb Army member named Liang Yifan, who had arrived with Li Feng, swiftly dashed toward the gray fog passage cleared at the edge.

Following his orders, Zhu Linxin hid to the side, waiting as the countdown ticked away toward the imminent chime of the sword.

Right then, however, Li Feng shot Su Ping a look, and the two walked off together.

Despite such an obvious action, Zhu Linxin didn’t seem to notice—or rather, his reaction time had become incredibly sluggish.

Once they were huddled together, Li Feng let out a breath and spoke in a hushed tone. "Master Su, you’ve been traveling alongside Lin Xin all this way. You must have noticed something off about him, right?"

Su Ping nodded. He thought for a moment before replying, "That sound of the sword, it seems..."

Li Feng didn’t say a word, merely taking out an object from his Beast Taming Space. It was a highly unusual piece of machinery.

Calling it a machine wasn’t even entirely accurate, as the back of its connectors featured two extremely bizarre compound eyes, looking as though they had been gouged straight out of some Ferocious Beast.

"This is..."

"This is a Soul Detector. It’s quite a rare piece of equipment within the Legion, used to detect injuries and corruption inflicted upon the soul. I’ll spare you the specific mechanics for now—just take a look at this..."

Li Feng fiddled with the device to adjust something, then aimed it at Zhu Linxin not far away. Su Ping watched as the two bizarre compound eyes emitted a peculiar frequency that enveloped Zhu Linxin.

Subsequently, an illusory silhouette appeared on the display screen.

"This is a soul..."

However, when Su Ping saw the so-called soul on the screen, he was slightly taken aback.

What did a person’s soul look like? It depended on the physical vessel itself. Normally, a soul should appear exactly as the person it belonged to.

But right now, the soul hidden within Zhu Linxin’s body looked indescribably strange.

His soul was perfectly straight—almost unnaturally straight.

"This is..."

Su Ping’s pupils shrank violently.

At that very moment, the familiar sound rang out once again!

"CLANG!"

The sound was a mixture of crispness and dullness, resonating as though it were chiseling directly into his skull. Su Ping resisted the attack this sound launched on his soul and Spirit with all his might, yet his eyes remained firmly locked onto the so-tapped Soul Detector.

Through the lens of the Soul Detector aimed at him, the soul within Zhu Linxin’s body...

...unexpectedly began to transform again in tandem with the sound.

"SHING!"

Another chime of a sword rang out. The sensation grew increasingly lifelike.

Following this sound, the image on the screen shifted slightly once more. The shape of Zhu Linxin’s soul became even straighter.

"CLANG!"

Finally, amid the succession of dull sounds, Su Ping realized the truth.

Every chime, every ringing of the sword...

...was casting a person’s soul into a sword.
