Beast Taming Clan: I Have a Jade Book Chapter 2: Beyond Saving
Previously on Beast Taming Clan: I Have a Jade Book...
Halfway up Lingyun Peak in the Ye Family sits the Demon Hunting Hall, a grand two-story palace of impressive splendor.
Century-old Sinking Iron Wood forms the whole structure, adorned with myriad vivid spirit beast carvings that lend an even more ethereal presence to the hall.
After entering the hall and completing registration, Ye Jingcheng observed numerous Ye Family disciples bustling about inside, some with beast blood smeared on their robes, exuding a fierce air.
Clearly, these individuals had just come back from the heart of the Taihang Mountain Range.
Standing out among the group was Ye Haiyun, the Ye Family's famed Pill Master.
Squatting nearby, Ye Haiyun examined an exotic beast laid out on a cloth spread across the floor, eventually shaking his head after a prolonged inspection.
This exotic beast matched the size of an ordinary fox, its fur a vibrant fiery red brimming with vitality, yet marred by a wounded front leg where the injury was turning black and shriveling.
Particularly striking were its once-vibrant eyes, now slowly losing their luster, as though its life force might ebb away in an instant.
A feeble whimper escaped it, the sound growing fainter by the moment.
The Red Flame Fox bore grave wounds and deep poisoning, its survival alone proving remarkable resilience and substantial promise.
"This Red Flame Fox can't be saved. What a shame for a demon beast with the potential to hit Tier Two Peak!"
Ye Haiyun's words prompted sighs of regret from the surrounding Ye Family members.
Compared to the Human Race, the Demon Race places far greater emphasis on bloodlines.
Higher-quality bloodlines allow ascent to greater heights.
On the flip side, inferior bloodlines demand far more resources than a cultivator's own path, going against the core purpose of beast tamers fostering spirit beasts.
For the Red Flame Fox before them, treatment offered a faint chance, but it would require at minimum a Tier Two Spirit Pill.
Survival might come, yet its original potential could well diminish, rendering such pills invaluable treasures for the entire Ye Family.
Ye Jingcheng alone watched with bulging eyes, as the enigmatic Ancient Book inside him began turning its pages for the very first time.
The pages halted on a striking final image, mysteriously flipping to the center where a nine-tailed red fox blazed with terrifying might!
Its claw looked ready to rip the heavens apart!
This sight convinced Ye Jingcheng that the Red Flame Fox was no ordinary creature.
Moreover, his Ancient Book connected directly to the art of raising spirit beasts.
Still, he held back from stepping forward just then.
Not even if the Ancient Book within offered a shot at success.
With memories of two lives, he knew full well the wisdom in "a jade exposed draws calamity."
"Don't we have two Flying Cloud Leopards too? When mature, they could reach Tier Two, matching an early Foundation Establishment cultivator. They're the top prize from this trip, giving the Jing Generation plenty to choose from!" The stern Third Elder Ye Haiyi pressed on.
This venture had drained the Ye Family's resources heavily, yet it brought rich rewards from probing a Demon Valley.
As a premier Beast Taming Clan, many in the Jing Generation still lacked fitting spirit beasts.
Not due to any shortage in breeding spirit beasts within the family, but because truly excellent ones remained exceedingly rare.
"Jingcheng, you haven't got a spirit beast yet, have you? Pick a cub from these; we've got five this round for ample options!" After sending word via Sound Transmission Talisman, Ye Haiyi spotted Ye Jingcheng and called out directly.
With a wave of his hands, the Spirit Beast Bag glowed, summoning five varied young beasts into view.
The pair of Flying Cloud Leopards brimmed with energy, craning their necks boldly and issuing deep, menacing growls!
The remaining trio consisted of a Cyan-Scaled Snake and two Jade Ring Rats.
These three seemed notably listless.
Their innate build and prospects lagged far behind by multiple levels.
Ye Jingcheng had known these spirit beasts' looks since boyhood, once dreaming excitedly of them, and he still held fondness for them today.
"Grandfather, please let my fourth and second brothers choose first!" Though his gaze burned with desire, Ye Jingcheng remembered something and deferred with reluctance.
His mentioned fourth and second brothers were fellow clansmen also beastless, each with three spirit roots and talent edging his own.
"No need to worry. In the Ye Family, your skill in alchemy stands out, and your cultivation efforts impress. Go ahead and select first!" Ye Haiyi regarded Ye Jingcheng with high esteem.
Within the Jing Generation, Ye Jingcheng may lack the highest talent, yet he stands out as the most hardworking, grabbing every instant for cultivation while delving into alchemy manuals and refining his alchemy techniques during free moments.
In the Cultivation Realm, poor talent won't always block your path, but a frail willpower guarantees utter failure!
Ye Jingcheng shook his head anyway. Picking first without selecting the Flying Cloud Leopard simply wouldn't fit.
Noticing Ye Jingcheng's determination, Ye Haiyi held back further words.
He kept watching the Flying Cloud Leopard, waiting for more Jing Generation members to show up.
Soon enough, several youths dressed in Ye Family garb strode in boldly.
At the front was Ye Jingcheng's second brother, Ye Jingyong, with his sturdy chest, trailed by fourth brother Ye Jingyu, sixth brother Ye Jingli, and seventh sister Ye Jingyu.
Ye Jingcheng offered greetings to them one by one.
He then naturally took his place at the rear.
Seeing this scene, Ye Haiyi and Ye Haiyun shared a glance, a subtle change flickering in their gazes.
They let out inner sighs.
In the Cultivation Realm, excessive humility isn't always beneficial!
The two traded looks and resolved to seek an opportunity to counsel Ye Jingcheng.
As expected, Ye Jingyong and Ye Jingyu picked the pair of Flying Cloud Leopards.
Ye Jingli and Ye Jingyu, on the other hand, went for the Cyan-Scaled Snake and the Jade Ring Rat!
Everyone used their Clan Tokens to spend Contribution Points, the Flying Cloud Leopard costing four hundred each, while the Cyan-Scaled Snake and Jade Ring Rat required two hundred apiece.
Finally, it was Ye Jingcheng's turn.
His thoughts whirled rapidly; his Contribution Points were limited, preventing him from affording two spirit beasts.
Unless he could haggle a lower price on the Red Flame Fox.
"Grandfather, how many Contribution Points for the Red Flame Fox?" Ye Jingcheng asked.
A touch of anxiety gripped him.
Shock and bewilderment filled the eyes of the others.
The Red Flame Fox teetered on death's edge; Ye Haiyi had only retrieved it as a long shot.
"This Red Flame Fox is almost dead!" Ye Haiyun warned.
"If Contribution Points fall short, borrow some from the clan for now."
Having taught Ye Jingcheng alchemy, Ye Haiyun couldn't stand seeing him opt for such a pitiful Red Flame Fox.
"I get it, Grandfather. I think this Red Flame Fox has strong vitality left and could make a comeback." Ye Jingcheng nodded to show his grasp.
"Naturally, if it demands too many Contribution Points, I'll settle for the Jade Ring Rat." Ye Jingcheng added swiftly.
"Fine, both for just two hundred fifty Contribution Points total!" Ye Haiyi proposed a fair deal.
Ye Jingcheng accepted without hesitation, pulling out his Clan Token for Ye Haiyi to subtract the points.
"Thank you, Grandfather, and Fourth Uncle!" Ye Jingcheng thanked them promptly.
Once done, Ye Jingcheng talked briefly with his siblings before strolling back to his courtyard, leading his two new spirit beasts.
Right then, anyone peering inside Ye Jingcheng would spot the Ancient Book radiating endless, enigmatic spiritual glow!
