Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife Chapter 2052 - 2054: No Connection
Previously on Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife...
Cheng Su promised to bring soup to Mother Qi, and the next day, she indeed carried a pot of chicken soup to the hospital, arriving at Mother Qi’s ward. Mother Qi was still asleep, while Qi Taiguo was sitting in a chair beside her, resting with his eyes closed.
As Cheng Su pushed the door open, he woke up immediately, raised a finger to his lips, and shushed her, "Mom just fell asleep!"
"What happened?" Cheng Su lowered her voice, surprised that she had just fallen asleep.
"Last night, she had nightmares all night, kept saying someone wanted to kill her or kidnap her. She was agitated the whole night!" Qi Taiguo’s eyes were bloodshot, clearly lacking sleep.
Cheng Su was silent, noticing his chin covered in stubble. She said, "Why don’t you go home and get some rest? Your eyes are red. You can also take a shower and change clothes. I can stay here for a while."
"It’s okay, I can hold on. I’m used to it. Back when I had missions, I sometimes didn’t sleep for three days and two nights!" Qi Taiguo smiled and rubbed his stomach, "I am a bit hungry though. How about you join me for some food downstairs?"
Cheng Su looked at Mother Qi’s bed, unsure if it was okay to leave it unattended.
"She just fell asleep; she won’t wake up anytime soon." Qi Taiguo said as he gently took her hand, closed the door, and led her downstairs.
Near the hospital entrance, there were many small shops selling fruits, steamed buns and fried dough sticks. There were also small eateries catering to people visiting the hospital.
Qi Taiguo and Cheng Su arrived at a bun shop and ordered soy milk, fried dough sticks, and buns, devouring them eagerly as they were quite hungry.
"Eat slowly, be careful not to choke. No one is fighting you for food," Cheng Su chided.
Qi Taiguo took a sip of soy milk and swallowed, "Aren’t you eating anything?"
"No, I stayed at the Cheng family’s last night and already had breakfast this morning before coming," Cheng Su replied, then asked, "Did Jianguo leave last night?"
"Yes. There’s no major danger, just needs slow recovery, doesn’t need many people to stay and watch."
Cheng Su thought the same, understanding the value of Qi Taiguo’s time, and asked, "How long can you take off this time?"
"I took all my annual leave, which is fifteen days. I planned to spend quality time with you all, but unexpectedly..." Qi Taiguo gave a bitter smile.
Cheng Su felt the same helplessness, "Luckily, it was a victory in the end."
Qi Taiguo swallowed a bun whole, looked at her, and said, "I’ve already told mom that this has nothing to do with you. Don’t trouble yourself over it."
Cheng Su smiled slightly, "I understand; after all, she’s the one who suffered greatly. Now she is the patient, how could I hold it against her? But I won’t open up to her anymore."
Qi Taiguo had been married to her for several years, and seeing her smile and hearing her calm, distant tone, he understood she had grown indifferent, feeling regretful and disappointed.
As a husband, he always hoped his wife would have a good relationship with his family, for them to be happy and harmonious.
But after several years, experiencing all sorts, he already understood it was impossible.
After such a major ordeal, his mother’s attitude toward Cheng Su remained blaming rather than appreciative; who wouldn’t feel disheartened and detached?
In this ordinary world, nobody is a saint, and there’s no reason to endlessly praise one person.
Qi Taiguo held Cheng Su’s hand without speaking.
If she doesn’t want it, he will not force her. He knows she’s not heartless, but everyone has limits. If respecting from afar makes her more comfortable, then let it be!
The connection between people is important. Just consider it as Mother Qi and her not having that destiny.
