Cheng Su waited for about ten minutes before knocking on the door and entering, breaking the exchange of stories among the three family members.
"You’re here." Qi Taiguo noticed her arrival and stepped forward to take the thermos from her hand, placing it on the table nearby.
However, Mother Qi stared directly at Cheng Su as she walked in. Seeing her reminded Mother Qi of the words whispered by that demon at her ear, that the suffering she endured should have been Cheng Su’s burden, and she was merely suffering in her place!
The pain in her severed finger suddenly flared up, and without thinking, Mother Qi screamed shrilly at Cheng Su, "Why are you here? Get out, leave! It’s your cursed luck that brought disaster upon me. I’m bearing the pain meant for you!"
The sudden outburst made Cheng Su stop in her tracks, staring blankly at Mother Qi.
Qi Taiguo and his brother were also stunned!
"Mom, what are you doing? Susu brought you porridge!" Qi Taiguo was the first to react.
"Taiguo, you don’t know! That woman said that originally, they were going to kidnap her and Xiao... but because she had so many people protecting her, they came for me instead. I’m suffering on her behalf, an old woman like me enduring this torment!" Mother Qi began to cry grievously.
Cheng Su felt like laughing upon hearing this, yet she didn’t argue, because it was indeed true—if it weren’t for the people around her and Xiao Qi, they likely would have been the ones kidnapped!
"Mom, that woman is a lunatic, she’s mentally ill. How can you believe what she says? She’s deliberately trying to sow discord among us!" Qi Taiguo’s anger flared—Chiang Qing, that woman with a heart of a snake.
"Yes, Mom, don’t be gullible and believe others so easily," Qi Jianguo said. "Sister-in-law almost fell off a building while rescuing you and got injured, and now she’s gone home to cook porridge for you, her sincerity is right there!"
Mother Qi was already frail and weak from the time she was kidnapped until now and hadn’t eaten anything, so this emotional outburst made her eyes go white, and she gasped for breath repeatedly.
Qi Taiguo and his brother hurriedly went to soothe her back.
Cheng Su watched quietly without saying anything and turned to leave, closing the door behind her.
Qi Taiguo saw her leave and said he would call for a doctor, then chased after her.
Cheng Su hadn’t gone far, just stood by the door, looking exhausted.
She had been worried and scared for so long, she hadn’t rested properly, so she was extremely weary.
"Susu." Qi Taiguo looked at her tired appearance and felt deeply distressed, saying, "Don’t take Mom’s words to heart, she’s gullible and inexperienced. When Chiang Qing stirs things up a little, she believes everything. Don’t worry, I’ll explain everything to her properly!"
"It’s okay, actually, what she said is true, she did suffer on our behalf," Cheng Su pursed her lips and said. "If we didn’t have bodyguards, perhaps it would be me and Xiao Qi lying in the hospital." Or maybe even worse situations might have unfolded.
Qi Taiguo hugged her tightly, and after a long moment, he said, "It might be wrong and sacrilegious to say, but Susu, thank goodness it wasn’t you and Xiao Qi!"
Cheng Su was stunned, looking up at him.
"Mom is my mother, of course she’s important. But you and Xiao Qi are equally important, and you, especially, are the most important person in my life, thank goodness it wasn’t you," Qi Taiguo said.
If the heavens really want to punish someone, let them punish him; his words might truly be ungrateful.
But he was genuinely relieved that she wasn’t the one kidnapped.
"Don’t say silly things, I won’t hold it against her," Cheng Su said. "You go back inside, please have your brother take care of things. I want to go home and rest for a while, I’ll bring porridge and soup again tomorrow."
Staying here would only provoke Mother Qi, it’d be better to go home and rest properly, sparing herself from resentful glares and grievances.
