Chiang Qing walked out the door, but soon discovered that she couldn’t even find anyone involved in the underworld because they all wanted to catch her.
She was lucky, living in this alley with people who were all down and out like migrant workers and streetwalkers. She stayed here for a few days and got to know two of the street workers.
When she went out, it was them who stopped her, saying to be careful outside. There were gang members everywhere now looking for someone.
Chiang Qing still didn’t understand what "looking for someone" meant, and the two heavily made-up prostitutes giggled, explaining it meant recognizing someone and finding them.
"I’ve heard they’re looking for some woman, right?" one of the women asked.
The other woman glanced at Chiang Qing and said, "If it weren’t for that scar on your face, dressed a bit more fashionably, you’d look quite like her."
"Really? Let me see." That woman sized up Chiang Qing as well, her eyes deepening with suspicion. "Didn’t notice before, but now you do look pretty similar."
Chiang Qing’s heart was pounding, and she said, "I’m just a little woman with no grievances against anyone, why would they be looking for me?" Then she turned back to her room, her heart racing fast.
It must be the Shen Family looking for her, yes, it has to be, damn it!
Chiang Qing touched the scar on her face, recalled what the two women had said, and dared not stay here any longer. Hurriedly, she packed her bag, grabbed a few clothes, took all her money, and rushed out the door.
And just an hour after Chiang Qing left, a large group came to her home, turned it upside down, and left grudgingly when they confirmed she had fled.
Night had long since fallen, the lights on both banks shone on the river water, faintly rippling.
Chiang Qing stood by the riverbank, her gaze a little unfocused, many were looking for her, yes, for her, Chiang Qing, just a bunch of punks.
Even with money, she couldn’t find any underworld connections to help her.
So, was her plan doomed from the start? Was she truly at the end of her rope?
Even after successfully finding the person and reaching this stage, wasn’t Heaven helping her?
Chiang Qing bit her lip tightly, a hint of determination flashed in her eyes.
Even if they wouldn’t help her, even if she had to perish together in the street, she’d make them pay alongside her.
She was done living, didn’t want to live anymore!
Living so harshly, what was the point? She was done living!
"Big brother, you have to stay strong. If you can’t hold on, what will happen to me, to little sister?"
"How can I stay strong? Working all day hauling bricks, and only get this little money, when can we gather enough for little sister’s medical bills?"
Chiang Qing looked over and saw, not far under the bridge, two drifters squatting there.
Both were grimy, with disheveled hair, and covered in dust.
"But we have to persist, otherwise, are we going to stop living?" said the slightly younger boy.
And the man, wearing a worn vest showing tough muscles, had his head in his hands, pounding it repeatedly, saying, "I don’t know, I’m useless."
"Big brother, you have to think about little sister, she’s still waiting for us." The boy wiped away his tears, said, "Big brother, should we just go steal?"
The man stopped hitting himself and looked at his younger brother.
The boy’s eyes shimmered with a hint of viciousness: "There are so many rich people here, if we just steal a little, we can go back to treat little sister."
The man fell silent.
Heaven hadn’t abandoned her. Chiang Qing smirked and walked over to stand in front of the two of them, saying, "Do you need money? I can help you!"
