Despite his recent illness and the ongoing war, Qi Taiguo is back in action and assisting with an evacuation. He meets with Lu Feiyun, who is frustrated by his recklessness but also admires his dedication. Lu Feiyun reveals she has chosen to stay behind, wanting to help the "indigenous people" despite Qi Taiguo's concerns about her idealism and the lack of resources.

There were very few women Qi Taiguo genuinely admired; Cheng Su was one, and now there was another—Lu Feiyun. It wasn’t just admiration, but respect as well. She made him understand the true meaning of "great love."

He glanced at the woman in front of him. She looked a bit travel‑worn, her features not exactly stunning, yet because of her confidence, the points where she seemed to shine were quite striking.

"Doctor Lu, I’m not as good as you are." Qi Taiguo said, his face full of shame.

Lu Feiyun raised an eyebrow. "Battalion Commander Qi, you’re making me feel a bit flattered here!"

"I’m just stating the facts." Qi Taiguo said sincerely. "You’re someone people truly admire and respect from the heart."

Lu Feiyun laughed. "Then I’ll just take that as a compliment!"

Qi Taiguo laughed as well. "It’s not a compliment, it’s that you deserve it—great love without selfishness, a benevolent heart and skillful hands."

"Only today did I realize you’re actually quite good with words, Battalion Commander Qi."

Qi Taiguo lowered his head with a faint smile. He really wasn’t just saying this to flatter her. In fact, standing in front of Lu Feiyun, he genuinely felt a bit inferior.

He had come here risking his life with a selfish motive—to earn merit.

But this woman in front of him was different. The moment she boarded the plane, she’d already put her life aside.

She came simply because this place needed her.

She stayed simply because this place needed her.

How could anyone not respect a person like that?

Qi Taiguo gave her another look and asked, "Doctor Lu, don’t you think about your own major life events? You’re not planning to start a family?"

Lu Feiyun was stunned for a moment, then gave a sly smile. "Of course I do. It’s just that the man who’s worthy of me hasn’t appeared yet—no, actually, there is one. For example, you, Battalion Commander Qi!"

Qi Taiguo was taken aback, unconsciously straightening his posture, the corners of his mouth going stiff. "Doctor Lu, that’s not funny."

Seeing how nervous he was, Lu Feiyun chuckled inwardly and deliberately said, "What’s wrong? Do you think I, Lu Feiyun, am not good enough for you? How do I compare with your wife?"

Qi Taiguo frowned. "Doctor Lu, you’re very good and very accomplished, deserving of an excellent man. But in my heart, my wife is better; no one can compare to her. In this life, I only acknowledge her."

Lu Feiyun burst out laughing, her slender neck lifting as she pointed at him. "Battalion Commander Qi, you really can’t take a joke at all. I was just saying it casually, and you had to get all serious on me. How boring!"

"You were joking?"

Lu Feiyun nodded. "Of course. Don’t worry, I, Lu Feiyun, still have a backbone. I won’t touch what doesn’t belong to me. The man who matches me has to be clean and unencumbered, with a spotless background—not someone else’s man. I have no interest in fighting others for a man!"

Qi Taiguo let out a long breath. "Next time, don’t joke about that. My heart can’t handle it."

Lu Feiyun laughed again. "Look at you—you actually seem traumatized!"

Qi Taiguo just shook his head with a smile and said nothing.

It was more than just lingering fear; he was downright cautious now. In the past, Chiang Qing had stirred up a storm and turned their peaceful days upside down. If another woman like that appeared, he really wouldn’t be able to take it.

Besides, it wasn’t about him trying to be some model man. It was that in his heart, there was only Cheng Su. No matter how good anyone else was, he couldn’t betray her.

Thinking of Cheng Su, Qi Taiguo lifted his teacup again. He wondered how she was doing. June was almost over—she should be graduating, right? It was such a pity he couldn’t attend her graduation ceremony. She must be very happy!

Watching him stare at his teacup, clearly lost in thought, Lu Feiyun couldn’t help but smile faintly. As for a man, she would meet one, sooner or later.
