Cheng Su's family members depart, leaving her with her son Qi Xiaoqi. She takes him to visit Little Cheng Su at the orphanage. The director reveals that Little Cheng Su was almost adopted by a couple named Chu, but they died in an accident the day before the adoption. Later, the director questions Cheng Su about a sponsorship remittance she doesn't recognize, which was sent specifically for Little Cheng Su, leaving Cheng Su wondering who sent it.

Cheng Su searched through her memories, but still couldn’t find anything like this. Who had sent her the money?

She looked at the note again. She couldn’t recognize the handwriting; at least none of the people she knew matched it.

"Director, can I keep this remittance and letter for now? I’ll ask someone to look into it, see if we can find out who sent it." Cheng Su asked. As long as she checked where it was wired from, she could probably trace who had sent it.

The director nodded.

"Thanks." Cheng Su put everything together and tucked it into her bag.

After bidding the director farewell, Cheng Su took Qi Xiaoqi and walked out of the orphanage.

Qi Xiaoqi looked at the little girl standing next to the director, watching them as they walked farther and farther away, then said to Cheng Su, "So they can’t find her parents?"

Cheng Su shook her head. "If they could, she wouldn’t still be here."

"It’s kind of wild. If she grows up here all the way, will she still turn out to be you? And you?" Qi Xiaoqi looked at her and asked, "Where would you be? Would you die?"

Cheng Su’s steps faltered. She looked at him. "How did you even come up with that?"

"Can one person be used as two people? You’re here, then what about her?" Qi Xiaoqi said. "One person only gets one life, right?"

Cheng Su turned back and looked. The director and Little Cheng Su were both waving at them.

Is that how it works?

"Or maybe you’re already changing that path. She might not necessarily follow the ’previous life’ you’ve laid out." Qi Xiaoqi said.

"If that’s the case, then who am I, and where did I come from?" Cheng Su asked, stumbling over the words.

In the end, will she disappear?

"Time will explain everything. Come on, don’t overthink it." Qi Xiaoqi gave her cheek a light pat. Still, that little girl did look kind of familiar. Where had he seen her? Was it because she was Cheng Su’s past self, so he was just imagining it?

Cheng Su walked away, holding him mechanically.

...

Back in the city center, Cheng Su checked the time. It was only four in the afternoon. She decided to take Xiao Qi over to the Cheng family’s place to mooch a meal, and by the way talk to Cheng Yaozu to see if he could trace the source of the remittance.

However, when she arrived at the Cheng family’s home, she unexpectedly ran into Qi Xiaoqi’s godfather—classmate Ning Ge.

"Ha, speak of the devil and the devil shows up. You’ve got some nerve, Cheng Su, you’re really a ’good friend’!" Ning Ge ground his teeth as he spoke, his eyes practically shooting sparks.

That tone—was he about to strangle her?

Cheng Su was a bit slow on the uptake, but Qi Xiaoqi quickly whispered in her ear, "Looks like you’ve been exposed. He’s figured out you kept quiet about his son."

Cheng Su and Qi Taiguo had discussed Song Jiaying right in front of Qi Xiaoqi, so he immediately thought of that.

Hearing this, Cheng Su suddenly felt guilty. Smiling, she asked, "What brings you here? Something up? It’s still the New Year, you know."

Today was only the tenth day of the lunar new year; the holiday wasn’t over yet.

Afraid Ning Ge was here to settle scores, she set Qi Xiaoqi down, gave him a little shove, and said, "Go, wish your godfather a happy New Year, get yourself a big red envelope."

Qi Xiaoqi despised her in his heart. Seriously spineless—she was pushing her own son out as a human shield. Some mom she was.

Cheng Su just laughed dryly, waggling her brows at him.

Qi Xiaoqi had no choice but to put on an innocent face, fold his hands, and recite a long string of New Year blessings to Ning Ge.

For his godson, Ning Ge’s heart ached with affection. He picked him up and said, "Good boy, godfather will give you a red envelope in a bit." Then, catching sight of Cheng Su heading toward Old Master Cheng, he snorted. "What’s the rush? Feeling guilty because you’ve done something shady?"
